Thank you. I am mounting my first bike and I finally found a video that explain very well the routing of cables.

For the rear deraileur cable, I put in a 2mm ID, 4mm od ptfe teflon tube about 12"long and went under the plastic guide not using it at all. The tube doesn't move around due to the plastic guide wedging it in place. This set up really cut down on the resistance in that area under the bb shell.

Good video that will help me better run the cables on the CAAD12 frame I just bought. But to be honest I'm not sure what the "changes" are. I was thinking you were going to offer an alternative way to run the cables.

Why not attach some string or fishing line to the cable that you pull out, then attach it to the new cable and use it to pull the new cable through like machine builders do when they build machines?

Be sure to use premium highly polished cables like Jagwire, Btwin premium cables from Decathlon. Don't use teflon coated. They work well for a time until the teflon coat wears off. Had to do this on my mates Cannondale. Cable routing is a pain in the arse.

I am confused. If cables are routed rubbish from factory (right to right, left to left), then why didn't you take the opportunity to route them to opposite side (like all the new MTBs)?

Hey Danny, big fan since the channel name was Cannondanny, I was wondering if you were making the routing of the cables in that CAAD 12 look harder than it actually is. I mean, I find having a bike with internal cable routing inconvenient on my 2015 CAAD Synapse, but complaints didn't really come up to my mind about it's performance. The bike I normally compare my bikes performance to is my brother in-law's Giant Defy Aluxx Disc, which has those amazing TRP dual piston mechanical calipers that I like, and my friend's BB30 CAAD 8 and I don't really see any difference in the effort to shift or brake. The only pet peeve about the Synapse though is the need for long reach calipers. Hopefully you won't take offense in my opinion, cheers!

I've done reverse levers before (UK style). Do you think that would help this situation?
@panagisloukatos77993 жыл бұрын
1) the plastic cable guide for shift was supposed to be expanded and sit properly in the cable guide. You pulled it down and now you cut it? 2) You can swap the inner cable housing just before and inside the cable guide in the bottom bracket. Yes they shouldn't be convoluted but just one cross is ok provided that the plastic cable is in place and the wires don't rub each other naked. I did it and swap sides so cables are going smoothly from right lever to left side and vice versa. ;) no difference in shifting and no rubbing on the head tube anymore...

That clear tubing for internal routing, what kind is it? How can I get some new?
@sbccbc74712 жыл бұрын
It's a cable liner, some new framesets do come with them to ease the routing procedure. Some bike shops may keep them, so you can check if your LBS has some.

My friend's CAAD 12 has r7000 derailleur, and the gap for gear housing is too tight, it only stays in tune for a short while after installing new cables and housing, I'm planning to replace the derailleur to the old 105 5800 to fix, not sure if it works but I'm going to try it.
@sbccbc7471 Жыл бұрын
I've never had a shift housing end cap being overly snug in that derailleur's barrel adjuster. Are you sure you're not using a brake housing's end cap? Or are you talking about the shift housing's curve? If it's the curve you're talking about, Shimano road rear derailleurs with Shadow RD (105 R7000, Ultegra R8000 and Dura-Ace R9100) require a different shift housing (ex. Shimano OT-RS900) that can bend even tighter than regular shift housing. Aftermarket versions from Jagwire and Ciclovation exist too. This is only needed for bikes where the shift housing stops at the rear dropout instead of somewhere at the chainstay.

if you change the spiral wire housing to longitudine wire housing , will feels much less spongey (sorry for the possible wrong pronuncation)

I'm quite sure you are talking about gear outer cables and the hole is smaller so I'm not so sure it's better.
@bengt_axle4 жыл бұрын
Nope don't do that. Brake cable has to be spiral to withstand the extra compression force. You should even replace the housing if the outer sheath is cracked or worn.

Route the cables either: with what you are used to, or: dominant hand for the front brake, always. Stopping power at the front is the most important, so if you are right handed (about 90%) front brake - right side.

one thing the caad13 "solves" -- disc brake...no spongy feel that plus DI2/EPS... and no cable problems :-) but yeah still have rim versions and basically same routing through they fixed rear derailleur from crank but at the front end I am scratching my head still. It is just a weird thing, maybe I can buy a use frame and have someone braze on some external cable guides :-)

Don't be afraid of magnets next to SD cards or electronics in general. It's an quite old myth, that they can cause harm to discs, hdds or even SD cards. Even neodyn magnets will not erase your data. ;-)

Magnets/electromagnetic field can interfere with computers
@LarsEchterhoff4 жыл бұрын
@@adccars359 they can interfere but will not alter any operation perfomermed electronically. It is absolutely safe to say: Any magnet that is not powered by a thick cable or any magnet you can safely lift from the ground (weightwise) wont have enough strength to harm data on a sdcard or a pc. Drive heads are another thing. They can bend and scratch the rotating discs inside a hdd, but a sdcard is fine with magnetism. A sdcard does not contain anything magnetic nor is there anything that can interfere.
