I made my fiancé an apocathery jar (from dollar tree of course) and he is completely in love with it. Went to Hobby Lobby and saw the mercury pieces. He liked the look and I didn't even know what it was called. Got back to work and went to youtube and you and this video was here. I didn't even have to look!!

I have always loved the old Mercury glass and I'm so excited to try this out. I was wondering, though, whether or not we should spray a coat of clear sealer on to protect from scratches? For the pieces we use as flower vases. Or have you found that scratching is not a problem (from the stems). What would you advise? Thanks for your advice, and also for another wonderful DIY, Toni!

You are the best. I Looked at some other DIT's but they were terrible. One sprayed the glass piece and then sprayed with the Krylon. Another sprayed the outside and let it completely dry, then sprayed withe the vinegar. She was supposedly teaching others. This was her first time and she was not happy with the outcome. Imagine! I wanted to send them to you to learn how it was done. Another sprayed the outside. She opined that the color rubbed off. All of the ones I looked into rubbed, not dabbed.Another said thee Krylon looking glass spray also came in gold also. Would the process be the same? Marilyn from British Columbia, Canada
@YourHouseaHomeTV6 жыл бұрын
Marilyn Warren Thank you and after all that, thanks for watching lol! I have not seen gold Krylon looking glass spray paint, but if you find it, the process should be the same.
@CanadianQueenmagenta8 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial !!! Question for you. Why not do this technique on the outside of the glass so that you can use water for flowers and if you wanted to use real candles (vs battery candles) and not have a reaction to the spray paint and the heat of a candle??? Just a thought.
@YourHouseaHomeTV8 жыл бұрын
You're right, you can do the technique on the outside of the glass also, and I have. I just like the way it looks when you're seeing it from the other side of the glass, looks more like the real mercury glass. The heat of the candles (those are real candles on the video) do not affect the paint inside the glass, but adding water to the vase could begin to wash the paint away. I have put water and fresh flowers in this vase a few times and it stills looks good but a little of the paint has come off. If you are using it very often as a vase I would do the technique on the outside of the glass. But I have used the candle holders many times as they are now and the candle flame has not changed or damaged it. I do, however, use a candles inside it's own glass or tea candles with the tin cups. Here's a video using these pieces with water and candles: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWKXeomZfdqMoKM

That would be great thanks. We do have pound shops but they don't have many of the things u have. I would love the candle holders that everyone uses so much. Very beautiful & elegant items! A few questions... would it be better to do the painting/spraying/swirling before gluing the pieces together rather than after gluing them together? Is air ventilation important while doing this project? Wear a mask? Any chance the heat from the candles causes a reaction with the paint inside the pieces releasing toxins into the air? Wonderful way to transform those unattractive (my opinion), clear plates- just keep away from children & pets- anything that applies its tongue to whatever is handy :) Nice music! Thank you so much.
@YourHouseaHomeTV9 жыл бұрын
You could spray paint the glass before or after you glue the pieces, but I wouldn't spray the area you are glueing first. The glue needs to stick to glass not the paint. You will need to spray paint outside with lots of ventilation and a mask would be great. There has been no problem with the heat from the candles reacting with the paint, it doesn't get hot enough. I also only use candles that are inside it's own gar inside the candle vault. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Just curious do you mix metals in the same room, for instance the old world pieces u did w the silver? I love silver but worry it doesn't go w all my warm decor and gold, copper, bronzey metals .
