I use Q-W-E for forward and strafe right/left which opens up A-S-D for abilities. Shift and CTRL are mouse buttons. Three 4x3 squares with 1st square no modifiers, 2nd shift, and 3rd ctrl. Great vid though for people using default which is sub-par at best!

I find using E-S-D-F for movement keys open up way more keys for your left hand, while still keeping shift, tab, caps lock, and control just as easy to reach. Plus, if you do take your hand completely off the keys for some reason it is easier to get your hand back in the right place without looking because of the raised spot that is on the F key.

Hi friend, I like your tips and tricks, but although I been playing WoW for 20 years, I am a casual player and yes I've heard all the terms you are using, what they mean is often still a question mark for me. So @BellularGaming how about you make a Series of tutorials how efficiently play different classes. Go from Start..explain talents and how to choose them..explain it like we never played before, make it make sense for the Dummies like me... I hate that they change stuff and I have to do the talents again.. but of course can never find the one I been using... and maybe cover some add on as well and macros and keybinding.. thank you for all your hard work!

Yeah I’ve pretty much done that, although lately some builds have been making it difficult lately and arthritis as I get older is not helping lol. I’ve tried almost every gaming keypad, keyboard and crazy 1000 button mouse out there and these day I just stick to whatever build is the most passive but also not to far behind in damage. Honestly I started doing that when Raids started getting harder as well to just make it easier to pay attention to mechanics.

Rebinding SHIFT, CTRL, and/or ALT to your mouse side buttons makes for the easiest use of macro cast modifiers and the greatest amount of actions. Autohotkey in Windows or various vendor software packages will get the job done. Then assign Z, X, C, Q, E, R and middle mouse to an action bar button, create macros for those along with 1-5 buttons, and you have 24/36 abilities taking up 12 bar spots. Get a good weak aura to track cool downs and it doesn't matter that you can't see the ALT, CTRL or SHIFT layer CDs.

So inaccurate, you can't physically press buttons on mouse without moving it a bit, which hinder your viewport. Moreover, the goal is to get it done in One press, not two "easier". The only thing it does it make it easier to press shift, alt and / or control but in the end you have to press two keys while instant spell off GCDs should be ... well, instant on mouse.

Probably not a very popular take but one of the best things for playing MMOs and other key heavy games is moving away from WASD and centering your movement keys on ESDF. It seems odd if you've never done it but as a regular computer user, at the very least, you will immediately appreciate the centering of your hand on the home row with the F key to guide you back. By shifting one key position to the right then you also open up all the keys mentioned in this video, one set over, as well as all the keys to the left of your hand. Just feels nice, especially if you have larger hands.

Awesome guide, note that if you have really large hands like me using your thumb is impossible and consider using the ALT modifier for extra binds and get rid of CTRL altogether. another lifesaver is macros with [help,harm] so you can have healing and dmg spells on the same bind (shamans/priests) and keep the same binds across all specs. Some binds are reserved: - scroll up = dispel/purge - m3 (scroll click) = small personal - m4 (back button) = kick - m5 (forward button) = focus kick - shift + spacebar = movement
@Wataheadable3 ай бұрын
This is a grreat starter guide - but definintely not the most efficient / functional set up. The modifiers (Alt and Ctrl) should be placed on the thumb buttons for a mouse. (G502 mouse is an excellent example) This means you can keep your fingers in an optimal position for rotation whilst allowing an extensive range of modifiers without repositioning the left hand. I didn't even know the interact keys was a thing - and i've been playing the game for 20 years - so thank you! Additionally - targetting should be done with scroll wheel (Up = Enemy / Click = Self / Down = Friendly) this opens the door to future content (PvP ect...) The above frees up "Tab" which can be used for major defensives. (Tab = Small defensive / Shift-Tab = Big Defensive) Also, Spacebar is one of the most under-utilised keybinds. It is great for movement abilities (Shift-spacebar = Gust of wind / Blink / Dash / Sprint) - it is a very cathartic, and satisfying button to press that is synonymous with pressing spacebar to jump. 1-5 should also by the keybind distance rather than 1-4. Some of your spreadsheets will have a big CD (Ascendance) on a different bind row from Bloodlust - which just seems inconsistent with the theme of Shift-1234 being offensive cooldowns. For healing - you can free up "QERF" by macroing damage and healing spells together (Targert = Damage / Friendly = Healing) - this does require some awareness of procs. I think my disagreeance with these keybinds is that i don't like "Sectioning" abilities into types - rather functions. Alt-12345 = Totems Shift-E = Totemtic Projection it just makes it easier to follow the above formatting. Again, great starter guide. Especially love the inclusion of Strafing - such an underrated keybind.
@dc88363 ай бұрын
I like the ideas here. I already use the mouse buttons for core skills and have shift/ctrl versions of them included, but switching it around so that the mouse buttons are the modifiers does sound very interesting. I utilize 1-5, tilde/grave (usually only for mounting, fishing, etc - it's not a core combat button but is still a frequently used button), Q E R F G X for my basic keybinds, along with spacebar+modifier key. As I previously said, I use mouse4 and mouse5 for actions but I think I'll try using them as modifiers instead. I generally don't have buttons visible in combat (weakauras handles any need to monitor cooldowns and such) so where they're placed on hotbars isn't important to me though I do try to group them by general location (1-5 and all modified versions in one block, all R's together, etc.)

When I went through this process for myself during Legion (pretty sure it was Legion anyway), it DRAMATICALLY enhanced my skill threshold for the game - once I had developed the muscle memory for my keybinds. If you've ever found yourself wondering how other players manage the things they do; a difference in keybinds will very likely be the primary factor in why you feel you fall behind.

I’ve had my key set rebound since nearly when WoW came out. I think a few people use this sort of setup: ESDF for movement, with strafing of course, and for main abilities: QWA + RTY + GH + ZXCVB, and also 123456 (+7890-= for extended abilities that aren’t critical). I also have the entire CTRL+123456(etc.) bound. Further, some abilities are then macroed, so something like my Q ability might have a main ability, plus one using SHIFT+Q. Figuring out what abilities make sense where is a matter of time and patience, though. Some abilities you need to move while strafing, so they need to be in a specific place. Some you rarely need to use in the heat of combat. Others can maybe even be on click-only buttons (like mage food, arcane intellect buff, etc.) These actions have become such reflex that when I return to wow after class changes and rebuild my spec, I will automatically reach for certain abilities at a certain time in my rotation and that will inform me what abilities should be where (if I’ve lost my bindings, forgotten, or something changed slightly.) Edit: oh also I have always used an MMO mouse with the 1-12 numerics on the side-pad. This helps immensely with being able to access some abilities that are further away from the fingers
@ch3m1c3 ай бұрын
A quick tip for all you WASD guys, a thing I learned literally ~25 years ago while started playing Quake. Ditch them.. and move to ESDF instead for movement - with that you freed up more keys on the left side without scarifying anything, and actually pressing modifier CTRL is easier now. And when you are spacer-bar smasher, you actually hit it in the center (top of the mech switch) not on the left side

It also just feels much more natural to use since the mouse is where you control your camera of course so you can more easily direct where you want to move to in case of needing to move quickly to get out of the way.

Having a good basic setup can help with the mental load the game is throwing at you, as the game by default isn't very good at telling you what is actually important or relevant. As a small addition to all that's been said in the video: One very easy way to get more buttons to be easily accessible is to move from WASD Movement into either ESDF or WERD. 4:38 I think opening your panels with CTRL as a modifier is better than using a key that could be pressed by accident or that is far away. For example CTRL + C is far harder to reach by accident than Y.

I play with a Thumball Mouse to move, I think I definitely have an advantage over some of the other players, its a easier for me to move my fingers on my mouse keys and I don't really have to worry about R,F, Z, X, C, and V. I do have Z, X, C, and V in SoD for my Warrior Stance Dancing.

I use every button in the number row wit standart attack on a 12 thumbbutton mouse, this gives so much more binding opportunities even more with shift 😅

Great video. My only criticism/constructive feedback with this one is that it ought to have come out a couple of weeks ago. Adjusting muscle memory takes time, and it's always better to have the time to adjust before the expansion drops. Just food for thought when the next version comes out in a couple of years time!

If you have a mouse that only have the back and fourth buttons, use them for Shift and CTRL, that way you triple keyboard interactions in a more ergonomic way that doesn't place the pinky in inhuman positions I personally as a shadow priest have mid range CDs, maintenance, movement spells and mounts on my mouse and a button that functions as CTRL As for mice, if you got a big hand and fingers, stay away from the naga style mice

@@burgers5675 If you don't have mouse software like Logitech G Hub or Razer/ICue, then you can use ReWASD. this is software to change buttons on mouse to whatever you like and/or make mouse button macros for repeat etc.

Haven't watched the whole video yet. Just had a quick glance at the spreadsheet. It's a good place to start but i would suggest seperating CC and interrupts, single target and aoe and also big cooldowns.

You can bind left alt to capslock with keyboard software, makes it as powerful as the left shift.

Some good advice, I actually didn't think of using Shift + Q/E/R. Having said that, suggesting ctrl/shift + z/x/c is just wild to me, or my hands are just bricked.

1-2-3-4-5-6. Basic attacks and constant use. F1-F2-F3-F4-F5-F6. Big spenders, importance, healer specific heals. Shift variatns of 1--4 stuns, dispels, movement. Shift variants of F1--F4 long cooldown defensives and party wide heals/effects C1--C4 rarely used utility buffs. Always have interrupt on MB3, shift MB3 for aoe version. MB4 for extra button macro (quest items or similar) Z-X mount options. Shift-F for fishing. Everything else is standard. My hands are large enough to easily reach 7 or F6 without thought. As well as pressing shift and movement at the same time.

I haven't used my keyboard for gaming since Wrath. I use a logitech board w/as many G keys as I can get for keys that aren't used in combat. Mounts & fishing mainly. Got a Logitech G13 & thumb trackball (so just R, L, Scroll & foreward/back switch buttons). Going to have to scout out a gamepad to replace the G13 eventually as they don't make it any more unfortunately. This setup has taken a lot of stress off both wrists & keeps my chronic tendonitis from flaring too often. But I can see being able to adapt your suggestions to make the keybinds on the G13 more efficient. Looks like I'll be tinkering the next couple of days, will keep me occupied until early access lol.

I’ve been binding for 14 years These are my most comfortable binds: ~123456 QERT SFG ZXCVB F1 F2 F3 F4 I then feel around for shift control and alt modifiers and find the buttons that feel the most comfortable I end up with 60 or so binds. I have 65 level 70s And across every character has the same keybinds My speed, CDs, CC, personals, interupts etc all have the same bind. So pummel, rebuke, kick, mind freeze are all the same That way I can focus on the difference in rotation rather than all the kit By the way. E is my interupt
