I've been waiting on my custom tune from Fab9 for over 3 weeks now. I'm definitely a little disappointed in their customer service. The vast majority of customers recommended that I contact them. It appears that you won't get your tune unless you remind them that you're still waiting.... I just don't understand why a paying customer has to remind a company like Fab9 to give you what they agreed to give you when you paid up front for a service / product. I'm fine with the 93 octane tune from Versatuner. I REALLY like it. I won't be contacting Fab9 either, per a countless number of recommendations. I want to see how long it takes for them to get back with me. I won't be recommending them....unless I get the custum tune that I paid for almost a month ago. It's just frustrating.

@Argentinagang20222 жыл бұрын
Could be mistaken. But that “weird” dip is actually something known as air fuel enleanment. Basically the air fuel ratio at that 3-4K gets leaner saving on gas. I’m pretty sure that if you could get an A/F ratio mapped it would show that the air and fuel get closer and closer as you get to redline. The tune just removes that so it keeps injecting gas and sparking which I guess inherently reduces mpg but leads to more power and removes that awkward bump.
@DriveMX52 жыл бұрын
That makes sense, you probably know more about it than I do! Sounds like something the factory would do for fuel economy/emissions requirements. Would be interesting to book an wideband AFR gauge like you said and see what’s going on there!

One thing that should have been mentioned is the importance of connecting the car to a tender and the laptop to the wall outlet during the initial long upload process to be sure nothing shuts down. Also, disable the sleep function on the laptop. It would be interesting to have seen the results of the E85 tune. I love that on my '16, but I have a station 3 miles from home. since the ND2 and ND1 have very similar torque curves, I don't get why the 30AE was pulling ahead of the ND1.
@DriveMX52 жыл бұрын
Those would be good safeguards. We didn’t have it on the tender and it was fine. Just made sure the AC, radio, and lights were off and the battery should last plenty long. I also sat with the laptop in my lap the entire time in case I needed to do anything so didn’t have to worry about sleep mode, and I would imagine the app might keep running in the background even if the screen goes to sleep. I’ve heard the E85 gains are really nice but worse MPG and we don’t have good E85 availability near us. I put my ND2 on the dyno a while ago. Different dyno so can’t necessarily directly compare, but it had a smoother and stronger torque and power curve over the ND1. Like 15lb ft more torque at 5k RPMs and the power kept climbing til redline (peaked at 169whp) unlike the ND1s performance. Other dyno charts I’ve seen look similar. There is a legitimate difference between what the ND1 and ND2 engines deliver
@stevepolson24092 жыл бұрын
@@DriveMX5 Regarding E85, will lower mpg, the actual cost per mile is less with E85 regardless of the going rates for each fuel. The fuel is 20% cheaper, but the mpg is not 20% lower. So, if you have convenient E85, it is definitely worth going for it. By the way, an excellent video.

@@DriveMX5 what sort of power gain do you anticipate for the ND2 from doing tune + midpipe + header mod? Would you instead go for a supercharger+ tune mod? Fab 9 claim they are on the verge of achieving a supercharger that works.
@DriveMX52 жыл бұрын
@@love2huntbooks2 so last time I put my car on a dyno (I think it was a mustang dyno), it did 169whp. Ideally, I would like to achieve 200whp. I anticipate at least a 20whp gain from tune, midpipe, and header. Reliability is important to me, and that’s one of the biggest things keeping me from doing a supercharger (and the cost of it!). Naturally you’re putting a lot more stress on the engine by adding forced induction and the transmissions are known to be a weak point as well once you start adding lots more power. doesn't this all go out the window the minute you boost though? the thing I wish I knew before I got my ND2 is that the ND1 is boostable while the ND2 remains not. Meaning Kelci has the faster car - potentially. much much faster. Bought my ND2 RF BBS brembo fresh off the lot in 2021 and I am still waiting for someone to come out with a good ECU solution so we can finally have power. I don't trust the supercharger from fab9, it sounds like they simply say it works to sell units. reliability in the air.
@DriveMX5 Жыл бұрын
The tune in this video isn’t intended for boost. So yeah, I guess you can say it goes out the window, but that’s not really relevant. This is intended as a simple and relatively cheap solution to add some power to a stock or mostly stock car. Theoretically the ND2 will still be faster boosted because it’s designed with larger ports and can flow air better than an ND1, assuming similar tune-ability and the internals hold up the same
@twrcrew8852 Жыл бұрын
@@DriveMX5 nobody came out with any turbo parts for the ND2 and flyin miata has claimed "it can't be done". So they aren't even trying. it's really sad. but I hold out hope. Internals are never an issue in my eyes, because I've never used stock internals in any build when going to boost, always improve to a triple ply gasket, better clamping, H beam rods, thicker wrist pins, 4032 high silicone pistons (for more longevity/daily drivability while still being forged), and a rebalance is the baseline.

@DriveMX5 Жыл бұрын
Custom tune is part of what you’re paying for for the N1 tune, if that’s what you’re asking. You get the license for VersaTuner and custom tune together with purchasing the N1 tune. So the custom tune is not an additional cost on top of the N1 from Fab9

@Davan5149 ай бұрын
Why did you ask for a special tune knowing that you have a few choices on the base sold. I am confused or I don’t understand something
@DriveMX59 ай бұрын
It gives another option and was included with the purchase of this product through Fab9. Bryan Spears is well known for making solid tunes for these cars and having his tune allows for adjustability based on modifications (which you obviously don’t get with the base VersaTuner tunes) and you can add features, like their pops and crackle feature.
@Davan5149 ай бұрын
@@DriveMX5 thanks for your reply. So, you need to have some mods to ask for special tune. Am I right?
@DriveMX59 ай бұрын
@@Davan514 no, you can get it on a stock car. It’s just that if you do have mods, like long tube headers or an aftermarket intake or more, you would want the tune to be created with those things in mind so the car is taking advantage of them, if that makes sense
