I like your idea for the blending foam. Here is my solution : You can use the inserts from Ferrero chocolates boxes to put your blending foams in. Perfect size + you can put a punched-out round label in it. The inserts are also stackable on top of each other. I then put them in another chocolate tin. You have to love Christmas for all the organization solutions you get when the chocolates have been eaten (and the beautiful boxes)!

I am not buying a lot of supplies. This summer, I made a very expensive decision that changed my crafting life. I bought a large multi drawer tool chest from Harbor Freight. I normally have a huge wish list at this time of year. My list is totally manageable this year. I want an air brush gun because I have hand issues, and I think that will make using my alcohol inks easier. I want another set of blending brushes so I don't always have to wash between dye and oxide. I want ONE Christmas stamp set. I tried a DIY oxide spray and I now want mini misters, and a bigger tube of white gouache. I LOVE the spray I made. When I weeded out the products I didn't love, and organized in a way that works for ME, I found myself being VERY happy with what I have. Most things on my list will help make products I have more useful. The spray I made turned ugly paper into paper that I loved, and USED! I have free svg files on my list, but do those count? I have a scan n cut, and stencil plastic

@@lorirobinson7357 Happily! I was watching my inkie fingers. I don't currently have mini misters so I made a small amount in a larger bottle. I didn't measure. Probably close to half an ounce of water. White gouache. I think I used about 30 drops of distress reinker. IMPORTANT- shake the bottle with your thumb over the top before you put the lid on. I forgot to do that and my tube clogged. I grabbed a new lid, shook first and have had no issues. I added gouache until I liked the effect, and reinker until I liked the color. I used distress reinker, but she did it with Stampin Up reinkers. I mixed spiced marmalade and candied apple red. I have a large collection of reinkers, and they are MUCH more vibrant than my liquid watercolors. I love spraying metallic or pearl liquid watercolors. My watercolor iridescent medium dried out. I broke it into chunks and put it into a spray bottle with water. I am happy with that. I wouldn't have bought it just for that purpose, but it gave an awesome new life to a dried up supply. Please know that I have never used an actual distress or distress oxide spray. I simply really like the effect of water, reinker, and white gouache. I think it will work with any dye ink. I bought a massive pack of solid color 12x12 cardstock in November of 2019. I have colors I don't love. I used my spray on a yellow I didn't love, and liked it so much that I did 2 sheets, die cut them with cut fold and tuck dies, and used a lot of them on cards. Confession, I forgot that I want reinkers for my set of 4 archival pads in distress colors. All 4 are FINALLY in stock at the same time. The stamp set, and 4 reinkers puts me at 2.60 or so from free shipping. I picked out 3 $1 letter it stamp sets. I will most likely be ordering today.

I came back and watched this again. I used to have my Distress Oxides in one of those vertical ink organizers but it just was a pain to use. It was on the Ikea cube system and when I took them out, I either pushed them back, dropped them, because I have pretty bad arthritis. So, I went back to the Distress tins. I have organized them by color family, I hope that makes it easier to just take the tin down and pull the inks. There probably isn't ONE good way to organize them. Rainbow order may be the better way, I will just have to see. I am using your Daiso boxes; I love that idea. They fit in my filing cabinets I got from the Container store. I cut the labels using my Brother Scan n Cut. Might as well put the thing to some use. :). Now to tackle that mess of scraps I have.

Systems that can grow! That's really key for me right now. A few years ago I bought some 8x8 scrapbooking plastic page sleeves and refills super cheap from a thrift store to use for a certain idea. I didn't end up using them so they have been sitting around. This fall I've gotten into card making and wanted to take all my stamp sets that were piled in a box (not useful for me!) and organize them into sleeves. After researching all the different sleeve options and seeing the prices I decided to use what I had and the old page sleeves and sheets worked really well. I just had to slice off the binder part when I realized I couldn't find an actual book to keep them in. Then I won an auction from goodwill of a whole box of stamps and dies. Yay for crafting on a budget, oh boy for overwhelming organizing. The person they came from had them all in slim plastic sleeves, but a lot of those have broken and split open. And I never expected to suddenly need to add 30 sets to my stash, so I don't have enough page sleeves! Now I'm going to need to find a method to tame the madness and figure out what to do! I love the way your drawer ended up and it looks fantastic! Which Ikea drawer is that?

@Inkhill Revival A bit of a mix. I just found it about a month ago when I was looking for my first die cutting machine and considering Cricut cutters. So I had a general idea of what I was interested in, but not a specific machine or brand. So I went through all the Craft & Hobbies/ Art Supplies to take out all the sewing stuff (so much sewing stuff!) and got an idea of what was there. And I ran searches on some key words like Cricut to make sure I wasn't missing anything in weird categories. Then I started doing some price research and comparisons between retail and the site. You can 'favorite' an auction and watch a batch easily on your account page. That gave me an idea of what things sold at too. And that's what I'd suggest anyone who is interested do. And be patient! I nearly went for an untested Brother Cut and Scan but it went higher than I was comfortable. I was conflicted because I thought it wouldn't come up again. But a week later a better one come up! It also sold for more than I was going to bid, but it let me know I just had to wait for what I wanted. There are tons of rubber stamp lots sold by weight, tons of old cricut machines, lots of cuttlebugs and old sizzix machines, frequent big shots and surprising amounts of Stamping up stamps. I was shocked to see current generation Cricut machines, but they keep selling at market rate (or sometimes above weirdly.) The really key thing to take into consideration is the shipping charge. An amazing deal can suddenly cost another 30 bucks to ship, making it no deal at all! Also knowing what to look for in the photos helps a lot. They post Big Shot machines frequently but half of them don't have plates. I'm always amused though when they put up a lot with random unrelated things in it, like a Big Shot, some first generation sizzix die plates and a power cord! Personally, I decided to start with a cuttlebug and just waited for one that was cheap, had plates and cheap shipping. I spotted one that had extras in the original box and ended up getting it with lots of bonus goodies. The box of stamp sets was a random score I spotted while browsing the overall list and watched till the last day. It was still in a great price range and I took the risk on it. I'm really glad I did. My Cuttlebug was missing a C plate, and after a night of frustration trying different substitute sandwiches and failing to cut this one die set I ordered a no-name C plate from Amazon. But I was still so annoyed I started searching the electronic machines. A Gemini mini popped up and I added Gemini to my list of key word searches. Two weeks later I lucked out on a listing and it arrived today! I scored an unopened Gemini starter kit with all it's plates and dies, along with 3 extra sets for a total of $81 including shipping and taxes. The actual listing closed at $44. I'm ecstatic. And that C plate arrived, also failed to cut the die set and that's when I realized it was a flaw in the DIE! Ha! Least that annoyance lead to a really great upgrade! I'm now just going to watch that Crafts & Hobbies / Art supplies list for fun, and keep doing the word specific searches for a few things. But It's been a really great and fun way to do some window shopping and score some amazing deals. I'd really suggest it to anyone interested, hence this book of a comment! Lol!

I had to laugh at this because I had the similar situation that I had all 60 colors of Oxides (I’ve had a love-hate relationship with the original Distress, but I love the Oxides), I had just finished labeling my Organize More storage unit…and then Tim Holtz comes out with more colors🤦🏻‍♀️. Although I don’t plan on buying them all, my storage solutions were thrown off. Most of my blending foams are the old flat kind, I store those on their sides on a divided container I got at Hobby Lobby, I can fit 6 in each compartment, with a grid map on the lid. Your storage is prettier. Thanks for sharing!

Love your organizing talents Kerry! I’m out of town right now, but can’t wait to organize my Alex drawers some more. I use several of the IKEA silverware organizers, but never thought of cutting them apart to work better for me, so thanks for the tip! Can you tell me what’s the difference between the oxides and the distress inks please? I don’t have either yet, so is one better than the other? Most of my inks are from Close to My Heart from years ago. I bought a new set of the little plastic cubes from China I think, and they seem to be drying up way too fast! Help!
@inkhillrevival289
@inkhillrevival289 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda! So distress oxides and inks are both considered primarily technique inks rather than stamping inks. Distress inks are dye inks that are water reactive and used to be what people primarily ink blended with. But I’ve found any of my water-based, non-permanent inks are equally water reactive and blend-able, so I do wish I hadn’t invested in distress inks. Distress oxides are a different story-they’re a completely original formulation of ink: part dye ink, part pigment ink with a chalky looking finish. They’re creamy and sit on the surface of the paper which makes for much easier blending (harsh blending lines can be worked out and smoothed away). And since they’re opaque, you can use them on dark papers. They’re also water reactive but in a new way, they oxidize and turn milky looking. Oxides stamp better than distress inks-which aren’t really meant for stamping-but oxides still don’t stamp as well as a traditional ink pad. Stamping ink formulations vary by brand, like some stamp splotchier and smooth out in a few minutes like hero arts and Simon says stamp, but others stamp as is from the get go like my favorite things and lawn fawn. The newest type of stamping ink that people seem to be loving are foam pads rather than the traditional felt pads I first mentioned. These are what Concord & 9th, Catherine Pooler, and I think the new style inks from Simon says stamp (pawsitively saturated ink) are too. Just pay attention to what you want from an ink pad like some are waterproof or water based/reactive. Or felt vs foam, the foam pads seem to require reinking more frequently, but people love how well they stamp solid images. I know some people love versafine inks for their ability to stamp detail, but they’re more limited in colors. I’m sure there’s a great video out there comparing inks, but hopefully this novel gets you started 😂

Hi Sherry! I wish I could link the exact product, but I’m not seeing them on Daiso’s website. I picked them up in store a few months ago. Another great idea mentioned in the comments is pill containers, similar size and shape.

These are such amazing storage tips! I wish I had a Daiso. Those containers you used for the brushes and pads are perfect. Not sure where else I could find them. Do you know if Amazon or Michael’s has something that meets the same specs?

Hi Carol, thank you! I know Daiso ships like the Dollar Tree, as in you have to buy a set number, not just one. I don’t know of another divided storage container with the exact same specs, but here’s some with similarities… www.containerstore.com/s/craft-hobby/small-compartment-boxes/1d?productId=10029793 www.containerstore.com/s/craft-hobby/small-compartment-boxes/1d?productId=10029793 www.amazon.com/dp/B01G7LIFO8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_VPKMDCH7BZ2RMQXA51FX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Also, another viewer here shared that she uses the inserts from Ferrero chocolate boxes to store her blending foams in, each small section fits one perfectly.

You don’t use your distress oxides? They are probably my most used product! I recently bought an ink storage pigeonhole for my inks. Unfortunately, although the inks fit into the spaces, the spaces were too deep and the inks could slip back to far. I had to use my tweezers to drag them out! Hmm… how to solve this problem? I bought some cheap erasers and popped one at the back of each pigeonhole! Perfect! I’m still working on a good system for blending foams. At the moment they are in an IceCube tray. I considered buying Alex drawers but when I looked at them at ikea, I discovered the lost space at the back because the drawers don’t come out far enough.

@inkhillrevival289 2 жыл бұрын
Lol! I definitely will now because oh my goodness are they ever creamy and blendable, so excited! That was a clever fix for your inks. Did you find a drawer system you liked better than Ikeas? Usually I can find something that doesn’t matter as much to store in the back like I’ll eventually put oxide reinkers back there.

Hi, Linda! Wish I had better news but like most things these days they’re now out of stock😩 Daiso expects them back between late November and January. (product barcode is 4906137325510) Others here have mentioned using a large pill organizer for the foams which I thought was a clever solution, too!

Distress inks and oxides are the only craft supply where I willingly and eagerly succomb to full set syndrome. Just the ink pads and refills though. I do use them at every craft session in some form and have had some of the ink pads for 10 or more years. I've never found a satisfying way to store them though.

I enjoy ink blending not very innovative but I consider it a "foundation" technique, any kind of water color, splatter, blotchy, pouncy kind of thing. Stamping of course. Both formulations are my go to inks. It's true that refills don't you the fulfilling zing some other new craft supplies bring, but I've found them to be THE most useful craft purchase I've ever made. With a re-inker my pads have (so far) proved to be a "forever" purchase. I've never had to repurchase a ink pad except the one the I accidentally ran over in the driveway.

The ink pad was a tragedy! Lessons learned? YOU DON'T NEED TO TAKE THAT MUCH TO A CROP!!! Fortunately, I was going to a crop, so new ink pad! Plus like 5 or 6 more, not sure that helped reinforce the lesson 🤔 enjoy your inks, love to see what you choose to do with them, but mostly, have fun!

Wonderful ideas - thank you! Question - do you possibly have the 13-digit barcode for the Daiso tray? I’m using a similar system but like yours much more and it’s not on their website. CS asked if I had the barcode. (No Daiso stores are in/near my state.) Thanks!

Yes! It’s 4906137325510 I’d planned to link it, but then couldn’t find it online yesterday. I’d bought it in store a few months back. I hope they can pull it up for you! Otherwise someone mentioned in the comments that they use a large pill organizer for the foams. Removing the lids would make for a similar system.

@@inkhillrevival289 Thank you so much! I’m using two clear boxes with many more sections, each section a little smaller than yours, so adding inserts would be awkward. So I’d love a stack of the Daisos. I have all but 4 Oxides since they’re my desert island inks, and have to decide how many Ranger domed foams I really want for each color family, which will be more “families” than ROYGBIV, but fewer than 60. 😊
