I'm trying to use an old tin can for mine. So far it's not working as I hoped. Putting it closer did help tho. A d I'm using chunks instead of chips which I think is part of it as well

Honestly don’t event need the aluminum tray. Just wrap the wood chips in foil and pop a few holes on top.

You saw the smoke? I did, have to soak these tiny chips or they would just catch fire.big smokers use logs

You're not ever supposed to soak the wood. Other than that it would work great.
