I remember this! I’ve build this after the show finished. I was around 7. good times... Greetings from Switzerland.

Very informative. Talking about early moving pictures... I notice that most of the segments that you have uploaded date from the 1980s. Is there any chance that we'll get to see any of the really early stuff - possibly black and white segments from 1972 - 1974? Or have those early shows been lost / destroyed / wiped?
@CuriosityShow5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm afraid so. The earliest were recorded on a kind of primitive telecine film (remember that was black and white) and sent around the country like that. Around 1985, Deane and I started asking for VHS copies to monitor before broadcast, as there had been some production slips, and some of these segments come from those, and we did eventually get the masters of other years, but nothing before about 1981. Tapes were costly, so they got re-used and, when technology changed, not everything was kept. - Rob

@@CuriosityShow Thanks for the reply Rob. I'm just glad that so many segments still exist - and even though I have several tertiary qualifications, I still learn a lot from your channel :-) If only I'd known about the Curiosity Show when I was in primary school...

Why did we not have this? There is somethong rather delightful in this. I'm in the UK and we had the big budget _How2_ and the USA had _insert here_ but the _Convicts_ had this and the _Canucks_ had the equally wonderful _Acme School of Stuff_ Not fair, this is far less condescending and far more interesting that our big-budget efforts.

@@CuriosityShow thanks Rob but already a subscriber. _Ya' know_ there's a tremdous talent in engaging youth without being condescending, I always wanted to be a teacher but I'm well aware I didn't have the skills to not sound like an abject arsehole. You two managed that, no matter the years passed. Its a fine and admirable talent to convey a message for young minds without preaching. David Stringer managed it in Canuckistan, also a fine talent - so I guess you three truly showed and honest and commendable talent.

@@musmodtos Agreed. Being an American watching, and thoroughly enjoying these, i feel as though I was robbed of a great opportunity to see these in my formative years. However, even late in life, i still tell my daughters (because they have children), friends with children, and young people I know, "An education will set you free." It is programs like this that bring true freedom to the world, and spark those young intellectual fires that make positive changes to the course of humanity. Thank you, Curiosity Show.
