just discovered your channel and I absolutely love it! thank you, will try the mask. Funny thing is that my Russian grandmother has been doing kefir masks since before I can remember, so for more than twenty years at least! apparently it works because my grandma looks amazing at 74 :)

Hi, have you tried just using the kefir? I wonder how much of a difference the two probiotic strains you added make, and if you would get as good of results with only kefir. I did not try your mask but I did apply raw milk kefir to my face the other day, and my skin was noticeably softer, smoother, more even-toned, and had more of a glow. I plan on continuing the kefir face mask since I was quite pleased with the results.

I have and do love just kefir! I have not done enough rigorous testing to say if there is truly a difference with the capsules. Because probiotic capsules vary so much (also in their added ingredients), I would now recommend most people just start with kefir and go from there. Thanks for bringing up some great points!

YES!!!!!!!!! This is a huge passion/interest area of mine. I'll add it to the video queue. Hopefully, I will soon be working in a microbiome lab, surrounded by this sort of research. :) Thanks for your support L Abus!

HI! How has this aged after 4 years? Do you still recommend it?

I don’t do it much anymore! I have a new favorite mask.. it’s Sudocrem (kind of crazy because it’s sold as diaper / skin cream for babies but it works like a miracle for acne and redness).

That mask sounds amazing but I've always been confused if I can use probiotics if I'm lactose intolerant? I figure I still can but I think the "lacto" words have been confusing my brain...I recently became lactose intolerant a little over a year ago and it's been such a weird struggle!
@TheScienceofSelfCare
@TheScienceofSelfCare 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Olivia, thanks for your comment! Yes, you can use lactobacillus probiotics with a lactose intolerance! These bacteria are responsible for converting lactose (the sugar you are intolerant to) into lactic acid (an entirely different molecule)... so they are actually your friend! I would definitely recommend both oral and topical products containing known beneficial strains of lactobacillus bacteria! They are so good for us, and will definitely be featured in more videos to come. x

What is the name of the probiotic capsule powder you used?

Orthica Orthiflor Original Capsules. I don't use these as my daily probiotic supplement, but use them for fermentation recipes or masks because they are so easy to add to things. :) Hope this helps! xx

Could I do this with plane Greek yogurt ?
@TheScienceofSelfCare
@TheScienceofSelfCare 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Madeline--definitely! Kefir has a larger variety of bacterial cultures (so I would say it's like the "stronger" version) but greek yogurt makes for a great natural face mask as well! Enjoy and stay safe xo

Can we use it daily?
@TheScienceofSelfCare
@TheScienceofSelfCare 3 жыл бұрын
I would not use this daily, a few times per week or less is appropriate. The mask is acidic and will slightly exfoliate the skin, which is great for cell turnover may be too abrasive if applied everyday.

Are healthy skin microbiomes genetics?
@TheScienceofSelfCare
@TheScienceofSelfCare 11 ай бұрын
I’m sure there’s a genetic component (maybe we are predisposed to have a skinbarrier that’s friendly to certain types of microbes) but it’s certainly also influenced by our environment. So focusing on nurturing a healthy skin barrier and using products with ingredients like ceramides and probiotics can definitely make a difference.
