Gen X'er here. We made flippers (slingshot... fancy name) out of tree forks all the time. We'd spend hours looking for the perfect "flipper branch." We cut car inner tubes for the bands; red rubber was the best, if you could find it. An old tennis shoe tongue for the pouch. Good string for wrapping the bands and tying the rubber, folded back on itself, to attach the pouch, wetted with spit. We were deadly with them! Then wrist-rockets came about - too awesome!

Why not make the band have loops on either end so you can ACTUALLY USE IT IN THE BUSH. It’s elastic so make the loops small so you can stretch it over a stick fork.
