Handy hint!! If you are using double tread . To start your stitching without knotting your thread.Thread both ends of your thread trough the needle stitch through the material and loop thread under the the pulling thread and it will anchor your thread .

I love this suggestion! My sister does this with her cross stitch so it’s neater on the back. I prefer knotting mine so that my needle is attached as I’m always picking it up and putting it down again I know the needle can’t fall off and run away from me 😅

Hi Off Grid Artist, I just would like to let you know that I am starting to make a bear from your pattern. I am making the bear long hair. I am making it out of a faux fur jacket that my Mother had sent to me over a decade ago. Jessica Simpson label jacket lol. I could never wear it because the sleeves were too short. I did not want to give it away so I just kept it put away. Thanks to you my dear, I was looking around for Faux fur in my bedroom, I came across the long packed away jacket. I looked at it for a while thinking of my Mother. Then it hit me that the jacket means so very much to me and yet it is packed away. I am cutting the pattern out from the jacket. sitting here with tears in my eyes (happy tears thanks to you Off The Grid Artist!!!) My Mother passed away in 2018, but it feels like yesterday. I can never thank you enough Off The Grid for giving us the gift of the pattern and instructional video. I cannot thank you enough for something making me so happy!

I use hardboard joints, nuts and bolts all the time - it is so much easier to take a little time to glue that bolt and a washer to the hardboard joint with crazy glue, a hot glue gun or an epoxy of some sort. Your bolt will not move when you are joining the other components - using a powered drill like that risks pulling your extra long pile into the joint and messing up your bear. Having a stable bolt also means you can stuff your limbs before adding them to the body.... just a suggestion :) I take a day or two and prepare dozens of joints at one sitting

Hi I have access to my in laws sewing collection and a lot of the things I use are in the cupboard and quite old, so when I was in spotlight today I asked and they said it was ‘top thread’ or upholstery thread which is very strong, and then whatever needle you can fit that through doesn’t need to be large for the hand stitching. You will only need a large needle (approx 3 inches long) for the face. Goodluck and thanks for watching 😁🥰

@OffGridArtist
@OffGridArtist 4 ай бұрын
Hi Rhonda, my pleasure. I use something called top thread or you could use upholstery thread. It needs to be so strong you can hardly break it when you pull it. Most general thread breaks very easy under pressure. I find strong thread is important because you don’t want to be worried your bears can’t withstand very enthusiastic cuddles. 🥰

@@OffGridArtist I found your video when I was looking for instructions on making the simplicity 8044 dog/bear/rabbit. It was the first stuffed animal pattern I ever bought. I bought it a few years ago but never made it yet, because I am always distracted by making fleece socks, hats, masks, and crocheting afghans and other items. I want to start simply and make my first sewing machine animal (I have made animals before by hand or crochet only and never from a purchased pattern with tabs and intricate details) by using a 100 TC white sheet. Then I'll move up to patterned fabric, then fleece, then pile. But could you please mention, maybe I just missed it, which needles and settings to use for the different fabrics? I am sooooooo impressed by your bears!!! I watched many videos and yours have the most beautiful faces of any! Please recommend how to choose the eyes and noses too. I looked up many online last night and they all come from China so I can't examine them before purchasing a set. Thank you!!! PS I'd also like to make some stuffed nudibranchs. If you don't know what they are, add me on Facebook (Ariane Dimitris) and look through my albums...the tiny, colorful, beautiful sea slugs. Then maybe I can return the inspiration. 😸🐬 Do you have any videos on making patterns?

@OffGridArtist
@OffGridArtist Жыл бұрын
I’m just guessing here as I don’t have them in front of me but the joints were about 30mm, the eyes about 14mm and the fur I can usually make a bear with 1/4 of a metre, that’s a long roll though so if you span your hands out as far as you can squared that’s about right for the full-size bear 😁 1metre squared should do it! I always buy a little more though incase there’s a problem. Thanks for watching and I’d love to see your bear when he’s finished 🥰 tag me on Insta @off_grid_artist

Hi, again! May I ask where you locate the centre of the neck joint in relation to the join under the mouth? I’ve had one assembly which didn’t go to plan!
@OffGridArtist
@OffGridArtist 2 жыл бұрын
I think I just wing it. When you sew all the open sides of the head together, that naturally finds the middle then when you make a hole in the top of his neck it’s guessing where the middle might be, sometimes they have their heads slightly cocked to the side which I don’t mind as it gives them character. I usually aim for the seam but careful not to damage the stitches otherwise that would be terrible! You can always try once, stuff him afterwards and double check before sewing up his back. :) goodluck! I hope this helps!

Any chance you have anything for an armored bear? I'm working on a Cosplay of Vex'ahlia from the Critical Roll podcasts and the show Legends of Vox Machina. I'm not sure if you're familiar with that, but she has a pet armored Grizzly named Trinket and I can't find a decent pattern for an armored bear anywhere!
@OffGridArtist
@OffGridArtist Жыл бұрын
Hi Hannah, I hadn’t seen that before but after googling it what I would probably do is buy the ikea bear and then buy some pleather from a material shop and make the armour which would be fairly simple. He’s $50 and kinda overweight and I don’t know how realistic you’re aiming for but he would be pretty cute. Making a real looking grizzly would take quite a bit of effort and trail and error. I’ve never tried and unfortunately until I get this boat on the water I don’t have a lot of spare time. Goodluck and I hope you find a solution you’re happy with 😁. Angela

I think it would be very difficult to turn out. It depends how flexible and stretchy the faux suede is. The best thing about the fur is it’s very flexible and when turned out hides the join. You won’t get that with suede. But if you don’t mind seeing the joins go for it 😁 no rules with crafting.
