Weeds Are Awesome! That's right, you heard it here first. Weeds can easily go from nuisance chore to star of the show with just a small amount of effort. We all have to weed our gardens anyways, we might as well benefit from it!
And benefit we will! No other plant types are able to extract and store the levels of elements and compounds that some weeds can. By making a fertilizer out of these specialized plants, we can unlock a nutrient potential that you simply can't buy at the store, for free!
Hey, for those that don't know, the website is now live! Check it out here, there's going to be some exciting new things happening!: theripetomatofarms.ca/
2023 is the Year of the Garden! We deserve it after the last little while, and growing our own food and self sufficiency is just the reward we need to get back on track!

Nice. I leave my weeds in the bucket to rot down all the way into goo. To avoid collecting solids (and getting splashed), I just push a strainer down into the bucket and then scoop up the liquid that filters through it. It's a couple years old at this point, almost black, and smells exactly like cow manure. Flies love it too. 😀

I appreciate how you've simplified the JADAM method for us. In JADAM, you add a handful of forest leaf litter to inoculate the fertilizer, and you can also use straight grass clippings for a nitrogen hit. You don't need to discard the material, you can essentially make this a perpetual fertilizer by continuing to add water and grass/weeds to the bucket all summer, and take out what you need once a week or so. Thanks Jeff!

Wild, lettuce, dandelions, borage, stinging nettle….lots of the plants you talked about are good herbs and make medicine for us. I understand using them if you’re not into herbal medicine but I was sitting here in Virginia wishing I had some of those weeds here so I could forage for them! They may be around here but not in my yard! 😢

I bought the seeds for almost all of them to make some medicinal tinctures. I live in Tennessee, somewhat close to your climate. I grew comfrey from both seeds and roots that I purchased. I planted them under fruit trees recently. The wild lettuce grows as well as plantain and dandelion here and everywhere.

Yay Jeff!!❤ I've been doing this for a couple of years now. Plants act like you just had a fresh rain. They love it. I usually just let mine soak until it skims over an the smell is intense, roughly a couple of weeks. I figure its long enough to kill the seeds off. Just make sure you designate certain buckets for this as it really imparts the smell into the plastic.

I did this last year and used it mostly on pepper plants that were struggling. They took off after a couple of applications and gave me a very good harvest even past my first frost. My question to you is: when weeds that have gone to seed are submerged in water that long, do the seeds just deteriorate or can they still be viable? This year i bought mesh painters bags that fit over 5 gallon buckets and sift out just about everything from the brew. Just can't trust a strainer because the holes are too large.

Great Quickie Jeff! I learned all kinds of stuff. I was wondering if you could compare and contrast weed fertilizer vs. compost tea. A big pro for compost tea is that it only takes a few days. Thanks! 🥬

Thanks so much. I'm my mind, they are two different beasts. Weed Fertilizer is for nutrients, whereas compost teas are for microbes. Two very different goals when using each.
