Nice stuff! Could be more complete if you added Power Tools plugin (turning SMT off helps tremendously for emulated games, especially Switch games). Cryo Utilities is also a must have as it increases my gaming performance by a lot as well.

Warning: Installing Windows on a SD card will destroy your SD card. Windows does constant swapping, unless you can set a bit of the internal drive as the swap file location (a small NTSF Partition.)

@@younggun3948 no, SSD's are designed to withstand many writes. They do degrade from this, but much slower. They also fail differently than SD cards. Allowing for failed blocks to be ignored during the TRIM process. Windows does many writes besides just the Swap File. I don't recommend it for typical SD Cards. However, if you want to do this, buy SDCs designed for DVR security cameras. They're specifically designed for continuous writes, and will last longest. I'd still resize and create a 8gb NTFS partition on the internal drive, and direct windows to use it for swap.

If a game requires actually running Windows, I just don't play it. If more people did that, the game devs would broaden their support. Right now they don't have to care, they just say "just install Windows" and people do it. The game Dev makes the same amount of money, and puts all the work on the buyer.

Just use desktop mode to make a partition for your windows, you dont need to reformat and you will save your sd card a bit.

Your initial and maximum pagefile sizes should *match* so the file never resizes.

If your initial and maximum pagefile sizes are different, then windows will [constantly] resize the file as needed, which is a much slower operation than simply writing to and reading from it. By making the initial and maximum sizes the same, the file never resizes. This is hugely beneficial

I think that its a massive mistake to install windows on the deck. Windows updates keep deleting/modifying AMD drivers resulting in a ton of pain... It happens on gaming Laptops or Pc every single time windows updates... And if for any reason the AMD driver site is down ( happened to me twice ) you just simply cant update or do anything with your driver... Actually the reason i started to think about getting the Deck is because i had enough from driver, graphics, fps, etc... related issues. I just want to push a button and play.

Note that if u use vibrant deck you’ll be sacrificing detail for brighter colors, it’s also terrible for your eyes. It also completely overrides night mode, it won’t even work if u have vibrant deck installed.

The first thing I do on every device I buy is turn off night mode, and all the eco friendly options. Im so used to OLED screens everything else looks like trash. I even have all OLEDS in my virtual pinball table I just built (thank you LG for finally making a 42inch version) the steam decks biggest flaws are storage and the screen. The giant bezel doesn't help either, but it seems like valve has heard us and is gonna release the next version with possibly a oled screen and more storage options. ( I wish they would drop In the AMD 6800u that all the $1200 copycats are using. The only thing that stinks for me is I love RTS games and there still really isn't a comfortable way to play them without a mouse. I did hook up my Playstation Logitech g29 steering wheel to my steam deck and played forza 5 and had full force feedback etc lol

Is there any evidence that corroborates your claim that color saturation is terrible for the eyes? I find that highly unlikely. Also, I've been playing with digital vibrance on 100% on nvidia and 20 on benQ monitor for years and haven't noticed any change, eyesight wise, whatsoever.

@@tiagonunes1107 No, and no studies about blue light are conclusive, considering you get about 50,000x more blue light from the sun every day than you do from any screen. Also, blue light in MANY people is highly beneficial. From UC Davis Medical School (one of the best medical schools in the nation): "Blue light boosts alertness, helps memory and brain function, and elevates mood. It regulates your body's natural wake and sleep cycle (circadian rhythm). Sunlight is also important for the growth and development of eyes and vision in children." That's from an actual medical school and not some hack with hot takes on the interwebs.

Vibrant deck will, me personally I wouldn’t recommend that plug in. Also leaving ur deck in windows for an extended period of time (like 12+ hours) can make ur battery drain much faster.

It drains but. It by much. I barely noticed a difference. And bariboy is talking about putting your windows steamdeck to sleep. Windows is nothing near as a good as steamos for when you put your device to sleep and pick up where you left off

Gotta disagree on the clai that your screen "looks like an OLED". It just like what it is: a screen where the Saturation has been pumped up way beyond what it should be. To me, it looks hideous. It's over-saturated, garish and the colours have been distorted.

Leave the Page file as "System Managed" Windows will automatically adjust the size it needs when it needs it. if you set it to 10 GB as in the video, if for some reason it needs more it won't be able to allocate more.

You heard right. Windows can kill an SD card inside of a month (OPs numbers are entirely made-up). Atop that, downloading anything TO an SD card while windows is also running off that SD card will force the download to pause every couple of seconds while the system keeps up with writes. When I had Windows on SD it took me almost 6 hours to download a 5GB game because of this. DO NOT install windows to your SD card, you will HATE the experience.

It’s not as bad as people make it out to be. I’ve been playing GI daily for around 6 months on a Samsung 256 sd card and have had zero issues. Despite what the Reddit engineers will tell you an sd card dying from duel boot windows on steam deck has yet to happen to anybody yet. Plus if it does die sd cards are like $20.

I’ve done the hdmi thing, and it works pretty well. Not good for fps games because there’s latency but I’m pretty sure you’re able to bump up the resolution in weaker games
