r1+select is alt-tab in desktop mode. Whenever a game/program inevitably goes full screen and you get stuck, now you won't have to power your deck off to get out of there. Holding down the start button will toggle you between KB/M mode and a controller mode so make sure that you are in KB/M mode before trying that combo.

Two tips here. 1) Setup KDE connect for transferring smaller files between the Deck and other devices and sharing you clipboard from other devices when following guides. 2) For things like tools, mod loaders and the nested desktop that are setup as non-steam games set them as hidden so that they don't show up in you gamelist/on the homescreen. You can still get to them by searching for them and launch them like normal.

Steam deck tips and tricks: Regardless of what model you have, I highly recommend installing EmuDeck, setting up the emulators and adding some ROMS. Everything up to the GameCube is pretty easy to set up. This will give you a variety of low demand games which take up little storage, and it will help teach you about the Steam Deck's file system. Tip 2: If you don't plan to play the Deck for a few days turn it off or leave it plugged in cuz it's idle sleep battery consumption is around %13 a day. You don't want to pick up your handheld device only to find it's dead or halfway to it. Tip 3: Get a small USB C male to USB A female adapter so that you can plug in things without having to be docked. This will come in useful at some point.

@6:55, alternative to using Steam-Link to remotely interacting with a full screen, is a Barrier, a fork from Synergy, that allow controlling a multiple computers/systems from a single mouse/keyboard, albeit for me the installation is a bit finiky, and requires a matching a specific version, but when it works, IT WORKS., especially if you already using multiple displays and have a Dock. My current setup has my 3 monitors, each capable of multiple inputs, by default i reserve the Left one for the SteamDeck, whilest using the Central and Right for the Main PC. Alternatively, i can use all three monitors for the Main PC for certain games, OR, using the Right monitor for another Computer, also remotely controlled by Barrier. Basically, the Barrier allows me to 'operate' 3 different computing system from the same keyboard and mouse, whilest displaying their video on the Left/Right sides monitors

So, alot of people do not realize that all you have to do to leave desktop mode and go back to gaming mode is to "log out" of desktop mode. To further this, I hate icons on my desktop, so no gaming mode icon, right? Well, I set up my "select" button's command "2" to perform "ctrl + alt + del" on long press which takes me to the log out screen... but even more if you add "enter" as a command "3" with a slightly longer press, you get a 1 button logout that takes your from desktop to gaming mode in 0.75 seconds of a press! (if you are wondering select command "1" is "Tab" and is unaffected by my customization")

@samnite37 ай бұрын
If you install a game using Heroic Games Launcher and it doesn't work since it defaults to installing the Linux version then switch to the WINDOWS version of the installation. The Deck ironically works much better with the Windows version as this triggers Heroic to download the correct files to get things to work. I had to use this method to get many of my GOG games to work including Castles 2 Siege and Conquest, X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Heroes of Might and Magic 1 and 2.

MicroSDs make for good hotswappable steam cartridges, and you can keep track of them using collections. Also, there are generic usbc microsd readers that could be used to load multiple SDs (as you can also load regular disks formatted in the Deck under storage option) at similar speeds as the Deck reader. You can use these to move games between microSDs and keep big collections organized and readily accessible. That would be my 2 cents. Great video as always, Dweeb!
