I like how you are very methodical with your experiments and keep pushing for a result. I think perfection is whatever you aim to achive achived. So a rustic texture is also a perfect finish if it is what you aim to achieve :) Well done, Guy!!

Once again, thank you for being the guinea pig on the lime plastering. We have the same book about lime and it is wonderful to see how it translates into a finished surface from someone who has never done it before. It gives us hope that we will be able to do the same. Since we are rebuilding a huge mansion, we will be using the steel trowel method to get a nice polish.

You've definitely got a talent for plastering Guy as I've said before. Very well done - (Kylie could be a little bit more free with the praise!) One method you might like to try is instead of spraying with water on the last stainless steel trowel before you trowel it is you could try a wide brush in your left hand that is soaked with water and you 'flick' it as you trowel - sort of quicker than a spray and you'll get into a rhythm.

Me and the missus were talking so loudly when Guy was doing the final smooth finish on the second wall, like "use more water" or "needs a second coat" etc... That we were so pleased when Guy did use more water, and Kylie said it needs a second coat! It's almost interactive watching your videos, definitely entertaining that's for sure!

How exciting to becoming close to finished with the construction of an entire room. Just having the laundry room set up will be wonderful. I like that you will be using either a clay or lime wash finish. Congratulations on getting to this point and now having the parts available to complete the underfloor heating. Next winter will be far more comfortable for you two.

Nice work. Definitely a learning process. Decades back when I was patching plaster walls and ceilings here in the US I learned it takes a while to learn your “touch” with a trowel. Plaster is a multi layer process. The deeper layers just get sloped on and smoother as you work out to finish coat with fine finish plaster. Like you did. The undulating walls were especially noticeable in the corners. To better smooth out undulating walls use a longer trowel. Something like an old 4 or 6 foot level or a very straight aluminum angle iron to drag out a straight base coat. Maybe glue a cheap level eye to it. You should be able to buy an inside and an outside corner trowel to easier make sharp corners.

It's February so it is shorts and long sleeve t-shirt weather this morning on the Gulf Coast of Texas. This is a pretty good way to start Saturday mornings. I think that wall experiment is a success. Keep rocking!

Hi Guy, love that lightbulb moment when things actually work like the experts say they will 😀 Here in NYC plasters experts use a narrow long plaster trowel - 5” wide ,24 to 36” long - with very rounded corners. More material goes on faster and fewer lines in the plaster. I’ve hacked my regular trowel by rounding the corners with a right angle grinder. Also buy a metal corner trowel , save some time. I’ll try to email you a photo - Eric.

It is so cool to see your "experiments" suceed! And...Yes...You will be an expert when you are done, but in the meantime you will become better and better. It is the way of life. Construction people get good at what they do, so it's a rinse and repeat. It's the creativity and efficiency in each new project that keeps them going. You never know what the future brings. You are developing a craft that you could teach others. Also, how many projects are available in your area...since no one knows what you do. Maybe one day you will travel to teach and do your unique knowledge skill!

You're going to love these walls so much that you won't be able to cover them with decor. In our old people's houses, they usually only decorated small balconies close to the floor where the stones were usually bigger. They left the undulating walls free, which gain different aspects and shades as the day goes by. Saudações!
