Watched the episode last night where you talked about your trees. As a citrus grower in Florida, I want to suggest that some of the trees might just need to be replaced. When you see lichens all over the trunk of a tree, it might suggest that the tree is just past being productive. Your idea to prune and give it another season is probably a good idea for now. Also, be careful about picking up fruit from the ground. In my experience, when a fruit lies on the ground, bacteria start the rotting process almost at once. Make sure the fruit is still good before using it. Enjoy your videos!!! You work really hard and it shows!! Good luck!

Beautiful! Good idea putting in temporary frames for the windows, even if it makes things difficult! I lived in India for several years and loved the feeling inside the mud huts in the villages. Having soft, rounded corners and smooth, but not totally flat walls is very cosy and somehow soothing. Your home will be a very welcoming space!

A plasterer friend of mine used a plastic shopping bag stretched between your 2 hands to smooth the corners. Just press either side of the 90 Deg and drag the bag up and down. This will give a round finish.

You can take a piece of plastic rain gutter too. But you are right : doing it with some kind of material to round it up is way easier and regular than doing it by hand only.

Well done! Yes, as you do more finish coats, your skill will increase and the need to fiddle with the final result will be less and less. A question...Much of the country seemed to have a wet winter season. With all the trenching, the new gutters and the work on the floor....Have you noticed the moisture levels going down inside the building. If so, has this helped with curing times for the plaster work. The only thing I can find about cured lime putty is it seems to increase the workability and allows for a thinner, smoother final coat. Seems to insure the consistency of the mix. Thanks again and the place is looking wonderful.

I notice builders use metal edging around windows to support the plaster. To maintain the right angle. Screwfix sells them "Essentials EXTERNAL RENDER CORNER BEAD" come in plastic and metal I believe they go in place just before the last coat of plaster

Three and a half minutes in and I want to comment already! A gentleman always keeps his tool clean - those buckets and maybe the mixer attachment, at least, are in a shocking state! A clean bucket is better for sticking your tool in - no hard claggy bits on the side, no abrasion, no issues with stuff not mixing properly, can be used for a myriad of other things afterwards etc. I know that lime and anything you have added can be removed after a good soaking, but where's the scrubber when you need one at the end of every day? In a previous life I was given the task of creating a physical 'table' of plasters that were right for the constituents we had for a strawbale office. The clay was the only real variable in the mix, and the walls were going to be plastered with a lime, clay, sand and straw mixture. (The straw was finely shredded by yours truly) But what mixture was best, that stuck but didn't crack etc? (I bet you can see what's coming) Assume spreadsheet cells and measures by volume (ie buckets) ... A1 was pure lime, A2 was lime plus half measure of sand, A2 - lime plus full measure of sand etc through to 1 lime, 3 sand measures. B1 was lime plus half straw, C1 = lime plus straw through to lime plus 2 straw ... ie C3, for example would be lime + 1.5 sand + 1 straw After a few days it was already very obvious which was right for the job. These videos are probably several weeks - or months! - old, so this may be far too late/you already know this method and have long since discounted it for good reason.

Big improvement since your first steps in plastering! I'm really happy for your achievment! I'm glad you took the courage to remove the HL 5 and re-apply a new plaster with the right materials. It was tiring but worth the effort. The consistency of that hemp putty is impressive! In addition to being easier to apply, it will strengthen the wall structure in the long run. The fibers facilitate the aeration of the material, that is: they allow the carbon dioxide from the air to penetrate into the lime and carry out the carbonation over the years, reverting it into harder limestone (calcium carbonate) while releasing oxygen into the house. It is therefore an interesting and practical alternative when you cannot wait months or years for the putty to "mature". . Could you tell us where you purchased the hemp fibers, please? I would also like to use it to rebuild a rammed earth house near Tomar, but I cannot find it for sale in this region.

Looking really good - windows are really hard! you can use a profiled wooden lath on edge to act as a bead and that really helps on sharp reveals, also I would highly recommend earthborn clay paint as an alternative to lime wash if you can source it in Portugal - it’s amazing stuff and usually goes on lime in a single coat…. Lime wash is a pain to maintain….

For "outside" corners like around the window frame there are metal frames you can use and plaster over. Gives a really easy sharp straight edge! Almost like I knew what I was doing. My "inside corners (corner of the room) are not that easily fixed, There my lack of skill really showed. My dad was a professional plasterer once. he could slap that shit up against the wall and make it look perfect in minutes. Sadly he passed away before I got to renovate my kitchen. But I felt close to him shaking his head from beyond...

Nice job, looks great! My window sills were much deeper and I used a 75mm putty knife on the radiuses working from the inside out perpendicular to the radius and a small sponge to finish, only leaving the corners difficult to get to. Have you try using a round trowel on the walls? Your final finish looks great but if trowel marks or reaching dips/hollows are a nuisance a round ended trowel is more flexible and will also leave fewer marks.
