I love the fact you list out every conceivable problem you can think of, list the solutions available, and work through which one will provide the most useful, cost efficient, sensible for your skill set answer(s). I’m still awed by all the power tools that make work faster and better and today I am admiring the laser light line that keeps your floors level. Similarly for anything that goes on top, doesn’t have to be natural/breathable. It was when I was researching whether to use sealer on our tiles that I discovered all this

@@MAKEDOGROW That makes total sense. 👍 Just curious, did you ever consider incorporating cork granules in a lime mix for either the slab or the top screed for the ground floor?

The Schluter System is great and reasonably user friendly. This has reminded me of our bath redo/addition 18 years ago. One individual insisted we needed a beautiful garden/whirlpool bathtub. While another person wanted a gigantic shower with multiple heads, jets and rain head in the ceiling. The tub won out, because I value my marriage. The shower....nice, serviceable and dreadfully small. In 18 years, I have never used the tub. Some how a relaxing soak never seems to fit the todo list. In 18 years, the person responsible for this decision, may have....might have....on a stretch....used the tub 10 times.
@MAKEDOGROW3 ай бұрын
I, Kylie, will have a soak about once a week (not in the hot summer though). We both love a good shower too, so it’s great we can fit both in. Our last place in London only had a shower and I really missed not having a bath. We are also considering an outdoor tub of some type, maybe Japanese soak tub style or a small plunge pool. Oh, the list just goes on and on 😂🤣😂

Great work. Perhaps consider the following: Instead of setting the laser to the finished top level of the subfloor, set it instead to an inch or two above this and make a corresponding mark on the handle/stem of the float or trowel you use. This way the laser will be visible at all times and will quickly show both low and high spots.
@MAKEDOGROW3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I tried that method and didn’t like it. I tend to just place the trowel on the floor and look for the laser to run just above the front edge. This layer doesn’t need to be totally flat as there’s another layer that goes on it

Hi guys! Is the floor level with the top of that drainage piping? if so dig it out asap and put some insulation around it for the noise. Hearing gushes of water all the time isnt pleasant and over time that will get worst due to much build up. (I cant imagine you are going to put much if any ontop of it in terms of sound deafening something) I also noticed the hot water pipe isnt insulated? Maybe getting that wrong idk, It defo is worth insulating even if its just with the thinnest of stuff. Again, I might not see the full picture, just trying to help that all/ btw I am still very happy you are still rolling on and sharing all of this! You should be proud.
