Your mom sounds so much like mine did. I give her all the credit for the strong foundation that made me the woman I am today. She was a single mom with 5 kids on a cattle farm in the 60s and 70s and there was never a question if a job was “man’s work” or “woman’s work”- it was just work and it had to be done. Thank god for that lesson- it has served me well for 67 years. I can cook, sew, keep house, design, create, but also set a fence post and stretch barbed wire with a come-along if need be. I enjoy it all. God bless our mamas.

Kylie, I am the one who like to take the photos of my husband working on one of our projects & people assume he is doing the work all by himself. That is when I ask: WHY do you think there are 2 ladders? There was one time when I was doing all the digging for some steps...as my husband has back problems, but I took a photograph of him digging. Again, the assumption was that I did not contribute except to take photos. These are people who sit back and watch everyone else....They are projecting themselves in the situation.

You're absolutely right in deviding the jobs as you like it. Look at skills, not gender. But stop working at the same moment and enjoy the moments of rest and contemplation together. As my father always said:"You're only ready if the rest is ready too. You can always pickup a broom and clean." Found your channel just recently and i'm loving it.

I am very much a fiercely Independent as well. It's always amazed me when people think that I should not being doing what I'm doing? I've always hated "gendering" work. Or anything for that matter. I love working with my hands. Doing projects that I find worthy. Whether it's a typically male or typically female job doesn't matter to me. If I do it, it's because I enjoy doing it. OR I enjoy the fact that I needed no one to do it for me. I love that you have a partner that recognizes and celebrates that in you.

I find as a woman many of the tasks are achievable but it will take me longer to accomplish. There is no job that does not include some aspects that are less agreeable than others. The joy comes with the completion of the project and accomplishment of my goals. I could not afford all the improvements to my home without my labor. That labor makes the final project's contribution to my environment and life all the greater because of it. And it pushes me to tackle things I haven't a clue how to do until I research it. It broadens me as a person and provides more freedom as I am less dependent. So keep on keeping on in what you do. It works for you and harms no one else. Your home is going to be a fabulous home for you two.

YES ❤️ This has been bothering me for so long. I cannot tell you how frustrated I got reading comments like: "wow Kylie even my husband couldn't pull this off" or "I'm a big guy and I couldn't do what you do". How are those compliments? Kylie's been doing this stuff for a while now, several days a week. Of course she's better at it than some random dude who occasionally changes a light bulb. A lot of boys are raised with that mindset of "no big deal, just try, you'll figure it out" and a lot of girls are discouraged from even approaching any kind of manual work that isn't strictly aesthetic. On a more cheerful note, it's so good to see you work with lime 😱 The ressources on the topic are so rare and specific, it's great to be able to follow the different steps as you put them into practice! I cannot wait for the next videos on your limecrete floor. A fellow lime geek 💁♀️

Waiting on shifting big shingle stones from a garden round the corner to our garden, baby steps until lady is ready for me to clear it… Many barrow full so if and when I can do it… We share tasks we can do and the partner. does other tasks… I did not work full time however I had the time to dig a veg garden or shift-shingle or dig the ground for the patio… So we go into our lives doing what we can do and are good at it , we share the task load! We wash up and dry up … no dishwasher…. Water then goes on the plants…. Keep smiling we are behind you as we enjoy your venture!

You are a great team. Kylie I am with you, as a woman why should we be defined by stereotypes. We have a large garden which has seams of heavy, sticky clay which we both garden. I was surprised to hear a younger neighbour say that she can't dig the garden as it is heavy clay - I thought just give it a go, you don't have to work till you drop, you might surprise yourself with what you can achieve and the sense of satisfaction is enormous. My mother taught me the same life lessons as yours - and I grew up as a strong, independent woman and luckily met a man who gets me and like Guy loves to cook. You are a great partnership and an inspiration. 👏👏👏

Fantastic video. If I may give a suggestion, and because I really want you guys to finish the house before having severe back pain, always try to make those boulders go away by themselves. 3 or 4 small logs laying on the floor and then a rope to pull the boulder across them. Think about it. One small task like this may screw up the feasibility of the entire project, and since you've come this far, and because we need your videos, no one wants that to happen! Stay strong guys.

We just don't have that kind of history - most of our houses are wood or block framed. They are beautiful, the workmanship is a mystery to me and I would love to learn more. Being intellectuals I wonder if you've researched old architecture and have more to share along those lines. ?

Kylie takes on the earth. Guy immerses himself in an ice cold bath on camera. Seems even to me. 😆 You take care of each other by leaning on each of your strengths, and buckle down to do the more boring/unpleasant tasks as needed. I'm sure it's not always easy, but it's as healthy and supportive of a relationship as they come. People tend to interpret things through their own lens of experience/perspective, so I think it was a good question to clear up with your audience.
