I'm not sure if this is what I need to do, but every time I turn on the heater, I don't have AC in my car but that's not the issue, every time I turn on the heater the coolant starts disappearing and I have a feeling, thia has something to do with what you replacing, I'm scared 😔

It is possible if you have a heater valve Check out this video kzbin.infoUgkxJfiHk03S5Y9yQ0Sbg-RQtL0LobXGyVsQ If you have a leaking heater core - when you open this valve - coolant will leak out through the heater core.. the coolant would usually leak on your passenger side floor mat (check for wetness), but can also come out as mist through your vents when you turn on the air. I hope this helps.. 🤷‍♂️

@@MakeItEasyMechanic no leaks from what I can see, my car heats fine, but within a week all coolant is gone, mine is an 08 dodge nitro, as mentioned my AC is not been working for years now

Oh, so it's the same car basically. Then loss of coolant shouldn't have anything to do with turning on the heat. I would check for leaks (radiator, water pump, hoses etc.)

@@disrael2101 It would not be too terribly difficult to put a securely bolted metal access door in the firewall where the heater core inlet and outlet come through. Heater core access has been an issue since cars were first manufactured. The makers seem to like the idea that they can charge six hours of labor for what should be a 20 minute job. Every time I have had to replace a heater core it is because an inadequately soldered joint has failed where the hose nipples are soldered to the core . Before I install a new heater core I always get out my torch and plumbing solder and beef up the solder joints. I have even repaired a failed joint on an original equipment heater core that was perfectly fine except for poorly made solder joints at the nipples. The joint failed and leaked for lack of solder. The old resoldered core can last for decades. I believe it is a case of planned failure and difficult access so the dealers keep you coming back for a high dollar repair.

I think you’re adding malice where it need not be. Simply it is easier and cheaper to punch two holes for the hoses during the stamping process and call it good than to go the extra mile. These guys only care that it makes it through its projected life cycle. I know Toyota used to engineer the Camry for 250k. That was their goal. Idk what a Jeep Liberty was engineered for but I’d say a heater core replacement was not a factor in their design and assembly strategy. Sure, it could be a big conspiracy, but the automakers don’t get big kickbacks off service work. Most of the time the OE manufacturer of the components or an aftermarket company are the ones making money on part sales. So…idk. I do know that it sucks that no manufacturer considers making this job a tad easier. The easiest I have ever seen done was on an old Silverado where the bottom of the HVAC box could be pulled off and the core removed without removing anything but a black plastic trim panel under the dash. That was nice.

This is a great video and very well done. Just food for thought. I have done a bunch of these heater core replacements, on average it takes me under 3 hours start to finish. I have never disconnected the AC lines so no need to remove or refill the freon. Simply disassemble everything as you did but leave the AC lines connected. You will have plenty of room to remove the 4 screws ,3 metal clips and the the one plastic snap to separate the heater core housing from the Ac section to replace the heater core.

@@disrael2101 if you are getting antifreeze on the floor inside it's the heater core. They are just a poor design. I change more jeep heater cores then any other vehicle. Check the hose connections first, if they are dry then the only possible way antifreeze can get in the passenger compartment is a leaking heater core.

I just did this procedure on a 2008 and 2011 Liberty. These are hands down the best steps. Watch some of the others and you will be like wait you missed a step. I did have trouble pulling it out because of steering column mount. I broke one bracket on my 08 but got the 11 out. I wedged in a long screw driver to help the left side bracket clear, which I saw on another video. For the one I broke it wasn’t a huge deal but I did put a washer and nut behind the 10mm bolt as that holds part of the bracket.

Thank you so much for making this video, you went above and beyond the call of duty. Follow this video step by step and you will have much success. Try not to get wrapped up in the time it takes, this is your chance to really clean your car up, especially if your heater core blew out in the driver's side carpet. I would suggest replacing the heater box and the 2 actuator motors while your there, after getting mine out I noticed I had the melted black box syndrome, then had to scramble to the next state to pick one up. The 2 hard parts: Getting dash off and on the driver's side, there's a good size plastic pin that goes into the firewall, so you have to gently wrestle it out, then my tip to reinstall that side is to tape a small flashlight pointed at the pin and hole so you can see what's going on, especially if your solo like me. Then, you really need someone to hold the steering wheel while you slip it back into the joint and put the bolt in. Thanks again, Happy Holidays to all, and lastly......Holy Heat, I could fry eggs on the vent :)

This video helped validate why mechanics are paid well...lol... I have a Jeep Liberty 08' and mechanic has had my vehicle twice for heat repair. It's still not warming properly. I decided to research a bit and came across your video. I cannot believe he is taking apart the entire interior each attempt at the fix. He said he cleaned the filter because it was full of gunk. I wonder if he meant the heater core. Can that be clean, rinsed & replaced? And if so, why would a mechanic go thru all of that labor and then not replace with a new part? This is our family mechanic we trust but maybe this is too difficult?? So frustrating and uncomfortable in the midwest winter.

Great video! I often hear about the havc unit breaks too. Wouldn‘t it be smart to replace the whole damn thing once you took apart the whole jeep. Would be a pitty if some short time later something of the ventilation like the venting doors? break. Who much time is this shown work taking for an average mechanic?

Yep, I replaced A/C EVAP at the same time. Don't want to do this again!

This is a super great video ,, but not for the average shade tr mechanic ,, and FYI snap-on tools makes plyers just for squeezing all your coolant so you have minimal coolant replacement !!!

Gonna be My first time replacing the heater core on my 04 Liberty. My windows fog easily, when I turn on the defroster I smell a sweet syrup smell & then it smells something funny afterward that gives me a headache. I noticed wetness/trail of water underneath the passenger side of the vehicle so it’s 100% heater core. Wish me luck guys

Oh my god. The dealership wants to hit me with 3k to do this….I think I’m better off buying all the tools and doing it myself.

Great video! I had an issue with my air distribution box and was able to get it chanced out and put back together with in 5 hours or so. I didn’t drain the system tho. It was very easy and straightforward. Just keep everything organized and take a lot of photos, and a paint marker to label things.
