No annoying techno music in the background. No rap music as an intro. No unpackaging a new relay and meter, with an explanation that he has no idea how either one works but will make an instructional video anyway. No pictures inserted into the video of his dog or a past vacation. No ads promoting crypto currency, erectile dysfunction supplements or hair loss pills. Two thumbs up, my friend. Excellent video.

Seen any good channels about mining oil gas and engineer? Or maybe know banks that tolerate "those people"? I'm in texas so if I get involved in those fields I'll be the only person concerned with how to not die, especially since I'm not a native texan and the state bird is the "it'll be alright" aka they all want me dead as soon as I open my mouth and I'm not obese and inbred for 6 generations. They shot my Gloucestershire old spot cross male and started raising their own hogs... Then got tired of it and quit... All they do is poach deer sprinkled around the macleod gas field and sell meth... This hunter biden uproar is just shadow projection... What happened to the American dream eh?

One more vote for an informative and well presented video. It should be mentioned that if the relay is suspect and you don't have a similar relay handy, first use your voltmeter to ensure that terminal socket 30 has current. If it does, put a jumper between terminals 30 and 87 on the socket and the downstream device should be activated. If the device doesn't work with a jumpered relay socket, current isn't reaching the device and you may have a break or short along the wire. Don't leave the jumper in place after you park the car, or you may drain the battery; the circuit may not be made to carry current continuously.

Great video. A good example of a 5 lug relay is a high/low beam circuit. The same relay can be used to power both by supplying power on the control side when light switch is in low beam position and turning the control side off when in the high beam position.

I just found your channel yesterday while attempting to diagnose a dead power window/lock circuit on my daily driver Lexus LS400. While I knew about 75% of the tips and tricks you so perfectly illustrated, I am very happy to have found this channel. I’m pleased with the extra 25% of knowledge I gained. But, I am even more pleased because I will be sharing these videos with my two sons who also love working on their Toyotas and also a young father I am attempting to mentor through his first car ownership. He recently bought a $650 1996 Dodge Dakota that is what I refer to as a “One of everything car” because it needs one of everything nearly. Thanks for helping me pass our cumulative knowledge to the next generation. Merry Christmas to you and your family! (Now, if I can just fix this overly complicated power window/lock/sunroof/memory seat adjustment circuit on this 1996 LS400, I’ll be happier still)
@negativeindustrial

I’m still stuck on this thing. It’s a 1996 Lexus LS400. I’m getting low and/or erratic voltage at the kick panel fuse box on the power circuit and none of the doors locks, windows, sunroof, power adjustments in the seats and telescoping wheel are all inoperable. Everything else works as new. I did have an extreme amount of smoke from burning insulation under the dash in the vicinity of the kick panel fuse box. I bought a replacement unit but with Lexus security I’m wondering if I change it out will it activate the immobilizer or worse? I’m not opposed to creating a new standalone circuit/fuse/relay to bypass the stock fuse box but I thought I might ask if you thought replacing the fuse box might cause problems with other systems. It is from an identical LS400 of the same model year and options. Any help you can provide, even if it’s just to point me to where I should test with my multimeter would be greatly appreciated. I would be happy to contribute to your patreon or similar if you can help me repair or hotwire these windows, etc

In older vehicles, it is prudent to replace Relays in the 20 to 25 year range proactively. The cost is modest. While most Relays will probably never reach their open/close cycle life, age can and will compromise their integrity over time. Swapping Relays can be a quick fix to get you up and going... but who wants to crack the hood and troubleshoot on a cold winter morning when you are running late for work or school. Just something to think about. Great Video!

I think we will be trying this next. I have intermittent starting issues in a 99 chevy express. Grounds are good, fuel pump, filter all-new and engaged, pressure is fine. All the other issues I see say there would be engine issues when running. When it DOES run its a champ. Now, the battery is drained (I think from us trying to start and it will not) I can only hope its this simple. I have had people say ECM and ICM. But when I read about these, they say one of they symptoms is poor performance which we do not have. Thank you for this video. Here is hoping.

Nearly perfect. I wish you would have gone over why the, what purpose does it serve to have one pin normally closed and then switch over to the other closed. But you are waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the other videos. Thank you.
@heatshield
@heatshield Жыл бұрын
The normally closed pin can be used for anything that you want to stay powered on when the relay itself is not being powered. Let’s say I want to install a really loud aftermarket air horn for signaling while offroading but I want to keep the original car horn for normal emergency use on the road. I can cut the normal horn power wire and connect the ends to pins 30 and 87a (the normally closed pin). Without doing any other wiring at all, the horn will operate as normal, just like I never did anything to it. Now I can make a new circuit for the new horn using pins 30 and 87 (normally open). Then use a toggle switch to power the relay when I want to be able to use the new horn. Of course you want to be sure you’re using fuses for any new electrical equipment and I don’t recommend anyone add more points of potential failure into existing equipment like in this example, but that’s just one example of how I’ve used that pin in the past. Maybe a less complicated example would be to use the normally closed pin to power a warning light letting you know that you haven’t turned something on yet, that you really should turn on. Once you turn the thing on, using that relay, pin 87a is no longer powered and your warning light turns off. I used one that way for my dash cam system. If I happened to forget to turn it on I would notice that light pretty soon after getting settled in and moving.

I have a tool called a power probe, it's a glorified 12vdc test light that can also inject power or ground, and has a ground wire with alligator clip at the tool handle just for the purpose of testing components. This tool in conjunction with a beeping continuity tester on my multi-meter makes it very easy to test relays. Relays are incredible devices. Very fascinating. I have a 28 year old beater car that I keep for emergencies and recently the electronic radiator fans stopped running. The module to get them working again was a couple hundred dollars. By troubleshooting the relays for the fans I discovered the module grounded the coil on the relay which turned on the fans. So I added a relay which is triggered by the accessory switch that grounded the coil on the fan relay, effectively turning on the fan while the car is running for about $5. I know it isn't the proper solution but my car isn't overheating.

Well done, easy video to follow. I always had a good understanding of a relay but this was a good refresher. I have a 2019 Kia Sorento and the Map lights inside the car are not turning on. I have power when I manually turn the lights on but the lights will not go on when the door opens or for the button that turns all the dome lights on. So it cold be the diode in the car lamp assembly or the relay is your video suggested. Thanks and good tip for switching out the relay and trying them in different spots.
