You missed the now-discontinued Tradfri on/off switch, which I really like. I also think it would’ve been worth highlighting which buttons do or don’t have a double press feature, since buttons that support double press respond slower to single presses, because they have to wait to see if you are going to keep pressing it.

The holding of the pairing button on the IKEA remote is the direct bind pairing that you can use to bind the remote directly to an IKEA bulb without any form of controller/hub. Just the type of review I needed...."Everything works with Home Assistant" Picking up 4 of the Aqara buttons, nice and cheap, especially with Prime Day. Just switched from the Docker container to the HAOS VM and looking to make a few dumb devices a bit smarter. Two solutions: First is a dumb light I have mounted on my dad and I's headboards. Simple clip on lights that work well, but lose all settings when you disconnect power. Replacing them with Govee LED Strips (M1) and a couple of these Aqara buttons. My dad has dementia, and is sometimes confused even by the relatively simple remote for the light. It has power on/off, light color, and two brightness level buttons. For him, just planning to make it on and off with preset settings. Both of these strips will serve as the most used room light, since, when we moved into this house, the main room light switch got put behind the door when we swapped out sliding doors for hinged doors. Have other plans for smart things involving that lighting, but this is a start. Second is a set of dumb buttons that have a hub that plugs into the wall. The hub is in my office, the two buttons are in the Living Room and my Dad's Bedroom. He currently uses them to get my attention and have been the best and easiest for him. Putting one of the buttons in the same spots, as well as the bathroom. It's a simple "I need assistance in some way". It's not really an emergency button, though it can be used like that, but primarily to get my attention for every day things. I've tried many things for him to use in this way, and these dumb buttons are the only thing he has learned how to use consistently.

Nice video! I bought the aqara buttons and im glad that i have done that after watching this video. I have another question to you. Do you use zigbee and zwave simultaneously? There i will probably implement zwave because its more reliable i think. Can you agree with that? Keep up the good work!

I'm glad this video helped, thanks! As far as the difference between the two, I haven't noticed a huge difference. I do have one Zigbee device that drops out, but I don't have any Zigbee repeaters. Because Z-Wave is a lower frequency it should pass through walls more reliably. I also understand that Z-Wave has better security options. Either way, I've had fewer issues with my Z-Wave devices than Zigbee. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hey, I'm just getting into HA and this video was great, Thank you I have a question, do you know why all buttons can't have actions for double, tripple 4x 5x presses? Surely its just code to read sequential single presses right? Maybe that could be a good video topic? Feels like something the HA devs should make if its not already a thing
@makeitworktech2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think it's a little more complicated than sequential presses. The device firmware sends different ZHA events based on the number of presses, button held, etc. I don't think you can change what events are sent unless you can modify the firmware, but I could be wrong.
@leftblank2 жыл бұрын
@@makeitworktech Oh i didn't realse that, I thought it was just sending "button pressed" and the software was doing the counting, If it is sending pressed 1, pressed 2 then what each switch sends when you press it 3 times in a row? maybe back to pressed 1. so HA could in theory do its own event reading and say "button pressed 3 times in x secconds" = tripple press. That however would be something the HA devs would need to implement but if true could really enable lots more options for everyone!

Haha I see what you're saying, and yes, technically a dongle is a hub, but in my opinion, Home Assistant is the hub, the dongle is really just a radio. I usually shy away from Hue, but if they work without the bridge that would be cool! I just did a quick look, and it seems like there's only a deConz blueprint on the exchange (no ZHA). If you're using deConz then you should be good. If not, and if you know how, you could write one. I don't have one of those or I'd give it a shot.

While the Echo can work as a ZigBee hub, this doesn't guarantee compatibility.with these buttons. You'd need to look into whether or not they work with it..alternatively, you could get the corresponding hub for some devices

Bro, I've liked and subscribed before 30s. You're doing (talking about) what I was looking for, I can see you can do that well enough out of the bat and you're following a nice standard script (that I can identify over other videos) that you're getting to the point quick enough and yet provide long enough content of you to monetise. HOWEVER. FIX YOU'RE audio. Make it premium sounding. It's as important as anything else. There's something weird with your audio I think. Although I'm almost getting used to it by now as I write it. Still it's worth taking a look at it, I think it has something to do with a little bit of echo.
@makeitworktech2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks! You're right about the audio, I just haven't had time to figure it out. I try to remove the echo in post, but then it sounds really weird (maybe weird is better haha). The other obvious option is to add some foam paneling to my walls in my office studio, so maybe I'll give that a shot. I really appreciate the feedback though - it's kind of hard just trying to change things and hoping it sounds better!

Make sure you have a USB extender to keep that conbee away from your HA device! If your HA device uses USB 3.0 ports that can interfere with ZigBee comms. With Aqara devices, I find a lot of times you gotta just rapidly press the little button until HA finds it

Hi. It's Aaron, right? I was enjoying the video until it got to this part: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eF6kfKF8drutqbs. I'm completely baffled as to why you would make that sign? What were you trying to communicate?
@makeitworktech2 жыл бұрын
That's the "ok" hand symbol, part of the "circle game". Growing up in the 90s that was something we were always doing - trying to get people to look at the circle. If they did, they'd get a punch on the shoulder 😂. If anyone (I mean anyone) tries to insinuate that I'm using that symbol to communicate a racist message subliminally I will delete the comment in a heartbeat. That kind of discussion in the comments is disgusting and spreads hate and the idea that the use of that hand gesture means more than "ok", which it shouldn't. It's also insulting for someone to say that this video I worked so hard on is just a means of communicating a racist message, which is an absurd idea. Please carry on and enjoy the rest of the video! 😁
@richard_rouzeau2 жыл бұрын
@@makeitworktech Most sings and symbols of hate have been hijacked from completely different meanings, including this one. You might want it to still represent the same thing it did in the 90s but it doesn't. From now on, it will always be a poor choice to use it as an OK sign especially in a production that is meant for everybody.

That's extremely callow logic, I'm sorry to say. Each individual has the responsibility to interpret my expressions, and the CONTEXT is extremely important. @@makeitworktech it still needs some extra box. When you stated your requirements it wasn't clear that you only meant "no specific by manufacturer". For me, as new to this it was a bit confusing. You also didn't mention that Shelly stuff can work locally without cloud for no extra cost/hardware which should satisfy the "locals"? It seems you don't like Shelly and/or WiFi connected devices. If so, why? I mean, a WiFi network is already in your home if you're interested in creating a smart home, right? I don't want to sound to negative, I'm just curious and want to learn.
@makeitworktech2 жыл бұрын
Noted, I'll try to make that more clear in the future! I don't have much experience with Shelly, but my experience has been that it's more difficult to add to HA than many of these other devices. I stay away from wifi because they typically require big batteries to handle the constant connection, and also my network is overloaded. I had 80+ devices at one point and my network could feel it. Z-Wave being on a lower frequency is nice. Also, many wifi devices are Tuya based which I try to avoid if I can.

Don't understand why all these manufacturers are switching to rechargeable. It's bad enough to need to change batteries but when you do it's done instantly. Taking the button away from it's "home" to charge it is an unwanted extra burden and makes it unavailable to use when it's charging. So dumb.
