This is great. I’d love to see a whole series like this that focuses on techniques more than specific modules.

You should check out our "Deep Dives" playlist. Some of the videos are module-specific but many of them are more universal techniques. (We almost always put a module or system name in the title just to help people find videos): kzbin.info/aero/PL0jGFC0FWQsiL6dkTl4bOxhnh5-8A6ndq

I discovered that you can apply a lot of the Make Noise video to other modules. I think this is a real service by the MN crew and even if it sounds cooler and more like in the video, the alternatives are there. For example, Doepfer makes a great ModDemix alternative. If you pair it with a mixer, will it get you to a similar result compared to the Make Noise vids? Yes. Does it make you realize how amazing the Make Noise ModDemix is? Absolutely!

I love how inspired by Serge philosophy this is. It's no secret that Maths is inspired by the DUSG but I love seeing those patch programmable methods cross over into euro. I think everyone can learn from those and see how the majority of single function euro modules are derived from just one function of a Serge module.

So I wanted to do a Ratcheting Bass Line with only my Make Noise modules, and after spending a bit of time and thought, I figured out how to do it using maths. I then went and searched and found this video. While my approach was a little bit different then what you present, the basic concepts were the same and my results came out excellent. My Patch Basically, Tempi clocking Rene X, Rene X gate out into maths trigger 1, Maths right side set to cycle and out 4 to maths left side Cycle in. Adjust maths knobs for a good pattern and envelope. I used XPO into Spectraphon SAM and Maths left envelope out to Spectraphon partials via a mult, and also multed to Optomix, Spectraphon outs to Optomix. For some randomness Tempi channel slowly clocking wogglebug, and s&h out into Rene, X-cv with X.fun.cv set to snake. Rene X.cv out to Spectraphon 1V/oct in. Optomix out to Qpas then Mimeophon. Generative bass sequence for days. I need to get a YT recording rig going so I can video record this stuff. Fun Fun.

This is a great video (and great patch!). Really exemplifies the qualities I love most about Make Noise design philosophy: it sounds good, it is simple enough to more or less recreate from memory, and it relies on a keen understanding of the core building blocks of synthesis rather than a set of module-specific features.

Great patch! Loved when the chirps came in. Thanks Walker. Gonna watch this a few times to get it all digested and will find a way to do this with what I 'have'. If I would be wanting to make a similar seq with an earlier synth, I would use OSC/LFO's 🤷🏼‍♂️ those little things are mega-powerful if viewed from a cubist 'perspective'. Esp if one happen to have a few at disposal.

@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC I find increasingly often it helps to go back in Time to (Re-) discover how to move forward with some idea. Thank you and the MN gang for keeping it infinitely deep. I believe 'sound' synthesis is about much more than what we've learned to call 'Music'. the origins of the Art are quite fascinating. Once again, one must revisit the 'past' to grasp at what 'could' be. happy cubing!

What I'd really like to see is a way to do swung/shuffled clocks on the Shared System. Based on what I've read in the Tempi specs it can't do that, at least not by itself.

I got the maths V1 , Do you think I could replace the use of Cycle input ( 3:20 ) in this patch, by feeding a voltage signal like a clock or gate on the inputs of a cycling channel ? or the fact of that missing patch point can't be walked around? its a good question for the topic of the video as I want to use what I already have , also probably not very experienced for now. still investigating
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Жыл бұрын
Patch the EOC output from Channel 4 to the input of a VCA. Patch your gate source to the VCA CV input, and the VCA output to Ch4 trigger input. Now while the gate is high the channel will retrigger itself each time the cycle ends.

Great video! Would the DUSG be able to do this as well? (I don't have a maths)
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC 8 ай бұрын
The core concept would be more or less possible, but it would require a number of supplemental modules to do it exactly like this. For example I'm not sure whether you could do the Cycle + retrig portion of it with a DUSG. Also anything involving attenuverters would need to be patched separately, and you'd need an additional mixer if you wanted to do the SUM out trick near the end of the video.

very cool technique...thanks for the video! I'm wondering how I would implement this with my OG Maths as it doesn't have a Cycle input...am I still able to make it work this way? Thanks again!
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC 2 жыл бұрын
To replicate the Ch4 Cycle input, patch the EOC gate to the input of a VCA, and the gate you want to use to turn on Cycling to the VCA's CV input. Then patch the VCA's output to Ch4 Trigger. In order to also do the retriggering "sync" shown at about 5:07, you would need to OR or mix the VCA output with the other trigger before patching to the Ch4 trigger input, and make sure that you are using short triggers for it rather than longer gates. Because of the variable width of the EOC gate output, it might take some trial and error to get it to work just as it does in the video, but you could also stumble across fun new results!

I think the “module suggestion” vs “patch suggestion” thing that you’re talking about is really people who aren’t “thinking modular”. When people talk about their modular like a bunch of tiny voices rather than as a whole unit, I always wonder why they bother…seems pretty inefficient.
