I've always liked the small leather coin pouches that you see in movies during medieval times. And so i wanted to make one. It turned out pretty good i think. If i had to change anything i would probably make the ''neck'' of the pouch longer so i could place the strings further down, thus giving it more of a ''mushroom head''

The perfect implement for dramatically throwing down on a table with the string loosened so all the coins spill out to make a point.

Like it! Some of my favorite mods: roll the op down for a stiffer and finished edge; run the laces through a single wooden bead for a closure; stitch in a circle at the base for a larger volume and a bag that stands well; or, run a gusset between the two halves for extra volume; make one side of the gusset extra long to double back on itself for a belt loop: stitch up four pieces instead of two for a larger bag; stitch the middle of the lace in to the back of the bag; number of lace holes is divisible by 4. Pouches are fun to make and are good gifts. What’s not to love? 🤗

I have made a few of these and one thing I found to save a bit of wear and tear is to use grommets for the closure lacing. The first one I ever made was out of scrap pig leather and I got it to hold $50 in quarters, nickels, and dimes. That one wore out after ten years of use. Good video for someone that is unsure as to how to make one.

I've done something similar before, but I didn't have leather, so I used duct tape and tissues. The tissue was used instead of that "back to back" duct tape method that I honestly couldn't really get right. I made a round disk for the bottom, and two peices that made the sides. I taped it all up, and folded over the edge, running shoelace though the folded over edge so it would close. It's not the prettiest thing ever, but it's held over $70 worth of small change and stayed together with no issue, so it was a success

Very nice leather coin pouch! One of my great grandfathers kept his coins in a similar pouch. He was born shortly after the Civil War, & I was privileged to live with him intermittently until his death in 1960. Thank you for a very clear and easy to understand presentation of this project. I was equally impressed with your innovation in using a common VISE as a "Stitching Pony!" Yesterday I found some genuine chamois (doe skin) on half price; so I plan to make a variety of pouches including a jewelry pouch for my wife & several different pouches to use with my 18th century living history gear! May God bless you & yours.

To ease the curve you could cut tiny triangles in the seam allowancen pointing towards the stitch. Then the seam would lie flatter and fuller. The secret of these drawstring pouches is in how you thread the string. It's not just one up, one own. You have to do it symmetrical between right and left.
