There is such a misconception that joy and happiness are the same thing. Which is why even in the Christian community so many are confused and dumbfounded by the two. Happiness is this momentarily feeling that comes with laughter and good moments. But joy is so much deeper than that, joy is being content and okay with God’s desire for us. It is accepting God’s will for our lives with an open heart, without resent or “Why me God?” rather with a heart that says “He I Am, send me!”. We are expected to be happy all the time and smile but we are called to show our joyous heart by showing gratitude and contentment during tough trials. Even Jesus wept. Thank you so much for talking about this topic! God bless you.

I went through a season of anxiety over something in my past, and the shower (which had once been a place of peace for me too) became something I was terrified of. It was too quiet and left me alone with my memories and fears, and it took breaking down and crying out to God over and over to help ease my heart. I’ve noticed over the years that when the quiet becomes too loud, it’s usually a sign I need God to heal something on my heart. Thankfully He is always willing to listen ❤️

I can relate to this on so many levels. I think the hardest thing to wrap our heads around is choosing joy. I believe that phrase to choose joy has become somewhat hurtful coming from those that dismiss what you're going through. Most people are trying to find joy in the midst of struggle and need guidance. You have done a great job sharing this. Joy is not only a noun, it's a verb and there needs to be action behind it. Finding that jumping off point is so hard when you feel like you are drowning. Like you said, joy looks so different at different times of our lives. Joy and happiness are not always synchronous which is what the world has tried to dupe is into believing. This was great! Exactly what I needed to be reminded of. I can sit back and look at healing throughout my life and how Jesus was everything through it all and his joy, love, peace, courage always suppliment what I do not have. Bless you!
@MakennaAshley4 жыл бұрын
Wow Melanie, yes to ALL of this!!! 😭😭😭🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 100%!! I have definitely been there when it feels hurtful when others write off the pain, and I have also been on the flip side before I really developed an understanding of what true empathy is. At times I was too quick to point out the good - but now I am ok to sit in the hurt with a friend and not try to feel like I have to fix it, but just feel it with them sometimes is what we really need!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this and taking the time to watch and share your heart here, it means so very much! 💕

I really love this!!! While I did not have a miscarriage, my daughter was born unexpectedly with a severe physical disability. She needed spine and brain surgery within her first week of life. It was shocking and traumatic but the first day someone shared with me this verse. Our daughter's name is Katie (which means pure) Joy. Her name is pure joy and we consider all of our trials with her a joy from the Lord to continue us on to the journey of Christ Jesus. This verse has carried us through 9 total surgeries and countless doctor and hospital visits. I still cry and process the grief, but I have a deep running knowledge that the Lord is with us... His joy.

Thank you for the encouragement! A few weeks ago, the Lord put it strongly in my mind that He is near. He gave me a Name of God - Jehovah Shammah which means The Lord is Here. Over the next few days, He reminded me that He is present, and that He is near through every season, especially the wilderness season. I feel He is preparing for a hard season that will be coming someday soon. Your video is just another step in that process, I believe.

Im new to your channel but i love how honest you are with your story and the perspective you share and the permission you give others to feel! Choosing to trust Jesus through tragedy def deepens our ability to experience His joy, true joy, on the other side! I LOVE His promise of give joy for mourning and a garment of praise for our heaviness. Its a promise I've clung to through a very long and drawn out painful season of my life but what I've discovered through this journey WITH Him is that just as I was the joy set before Him and the reason why He endured the cross, He has become the joy set before me and that is the strength that gets me through loss, waiting on promises, delay, loss, heartbreak. I've learnt that Jesus is enough! Thanks for sharing! Im excited to start watching more of your videos! XOX

It was the most painful season of my life. But knowing God is with me through the pain, helped me get through. The verse when Jesus wept, comforted me as well, knowing He knows our pain and desires to comfort us. There is joy in the knowledge that he is with us and we are never alone. Loved this devotion!
