Picked up this vintage 1930 mahogany dresser off FB Marketplace for $50. While the rehab didn't go according to plan, the end result may still surprise you. If you live in the New Hampshire area, you can purchase this piece via FB Marketplace here: / 1bnq4kbmp3 .

Wow….if the piece could talk….it would say thank you for my gorgeous makeover and not to feel bad for not getting it back perfectly to its original state. Someone will love this beauty in their home. Loved your video. Linda Beals.

I was hoping you'd paint it black and then you did! The stain color on the drawers, the new hardware and the drawer liners were a perfect addition! Subbing so I can watch more of your content--good luck with you channel 🙂

Hi there Ron. I’m new to this channel. I love a bit of rotten old to lavish new! Can’t stand seeing broken things, or grubby, or neglected things, so I’m drawn to these resto vlogs. And there’s lots of them now! Amazing where a few chemicals, oodles of sanding, scraping and varnishing will get you! Really worth the time, patience and effort! Nice job, mate! You should be set for life with pretty much ALL the paints you’ll ever need in this line of work! An expensive project, but worth it…if you keep doing this work! ❤️😊🇦🇺🦘

Thank you so much for reaching out! I just launched this channel four days ago ... so more content is sure to come, I promise. (I'm currently working on a decrepit 1920s dresser). Thanks for watching, and I appreciate your support. Please consider subscribing (if you haven't already), as I'm trying to grow the channel and expose more folks to these kinds of resto vlogs.

It's absolutely stunning! Two-tone with paint and wood is my favorite. It's so timeless and elegant.

Good on you Ron. The two tone affect was lovely. I wasnt enamored by the finish on the top, looked a little textured for me, would love to have seen it silky smooth. Dont let this put you off, your video presentation was good and the end result means a piece stays out of landfill. 🙃

I wasn't enamored with the finish on the top either (it proved to be the bane of my existence). I wanted silky smooth as well, but I'm obviously still honing my craft. Thx for the words of encouragement and taking the time to watch. Much appreciated Jewels.

I'm confused why you put on new veneer, then painted it?

The short of it is that it blew up in my face. User error. So, I had to compensate. Chalk it up to a (costly) learning experience.

I have to express my dissatisfaction with this. This piece of furniture from the 1930s is of excellent quality. When restoring it, one should respect the craftsmanship, design, and wood materials used at that time. For instance, when dealing with damaged areas, I would first use a router to remove uneven surfaces, then fill them with African mahogany, which better matches the original wood grain. As for surface treatment, I prefer using Osmo wood wax oil, which highlights the natural texture of the wood.

As I noted in the Disclaimer to the video, my work is a combination of restoration and refinishing, in keeping with my personal preference on how I wish to see the piece in its finished state. I’m beholden to neither the purist nor the pop-fashionist. This means, of course, that I don’t shy away from taking creative liberties that, for better or for worse, may offend some in both camps. That said, I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video as well as the kindness (and the constructive way) you voiced your dissatisfaction. This channel is new, so I hope to learn from my mistakes.
