There are a few reasons why you want to make sure that your laser mirrors are aligned properly. Although it takes some time, it is well worth the result. This video walks through how to align your laser mirrors on the Epilog Fusion Edge. This process will also work on many other lasers.

Love the arrows u put beside the mirror adjustment screws. Genius!!! U are the first one I know to do this. Brilliant!!! Perhaps Epilog can learn from u and mark the arrows onto their machine parts. That will really help Epilog owners. U have helped me tremendously. Have a great day. Keep up the great work.

Thank you for posting this video! In my new job I will be working with an epilog mini and have to teach myself how to use it and maintain it working. Thus, I have been binge watching your laser vids all night to learn a lil more of what to expect. You have such a talent working with lasers and making concise and instructive vids on how to use them while still being entertaining ☺️

Trevor this is incredibly helpful. BTW...I actually purchased my first Fusion Pro through Engraving Concepts. Great company. In all of this time I've never aligned my mirrors since the day we received it. Could be why I'm seeing variation in power in different parts of the table. Always thought it was probably just me (or the substrate).
@MakerExperiment
@MakerExperiment 2 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it helped. Have your settings improved with less variation? What made you buy an Epilog?
@storytellerHD
@storytellerHD 2 жыл бұрын
@@MakerExperiment Well up until I saw your video I never saw the importance and didn't suspect the variation might be mirror misalignment. Had not occurred to me that even from the factory they could be "off". I always thought it was the acrylic or the wood species. Fearful of moving my work the slightest fraction upon job completion I'd have to press firmly down on the substrate to inspect. Even then the underside many times didn't cut all the way through. So annoying. Especially for high end puzzles with expensive mahogany. Increase power, slow the run speed down, up the frequency, etc...you know the drill. I'll follow your instruction and adjust my mirrors over this weekend sometime to see how bad it is. There's reference material in the manual as well but I like your presentation. What made me purchase the Epilogs (Fusion Pro 32)? Man, it was a really, really tough decision between this platform and Trotec equivalent. Today I like them both as they each have pros and cons. Epilog I like the most for it's super cool, time saving and awesome camera interface, though parallax is problematic if you're not mindful. Also, Epilog has slightly more work area space on the competing model. We never received the official training and mostly learned on the go...that's a testament though to superb documentation and the fantastic engagement of the Engraving Concepts crew here in D/FW.

I've been going crazy following the epilog pdf instructions, they say to focus the red dot to the burn mark when moving to each corner of the machine... you, however, focus to the center of the target which makes more sense. I'm just wondering what the reasoning would be to focus the red dot to the burn mark. any thoughts? just curious if I should follow your lead or there's. The instructions are identical other than that 1, very important, stipulation.
@MakerExperiment
@MakerExperiment Жыл бұрын
You can do it either way. Both ways achieve the same end result. When I planned this video I worked closely with technicians and Epilog representatives. The reason for aligning the red dot to the laser mark is to ensure that they both hid the same spot. Otherwise you’ll have your red dot pointer hitting one area and the beam hitting another and you wouldn’t be able to trust the red dot.
@DennyFab
@DennyFab Жыл бұрын
It's so your laser pointer is synced up with where the actual CO2 beam is going. Important to verify that, as it's crucial for the rest of the alignment

I lined up the red pointer with the burn spot initially in position 4, then I went through the steps and lined the mirrors (laser beam) and red pointer in the middle of the bull's eye when at position 1, 2, and 3, however, when the holder moved back to position 4 the red pointer (and laser beam) was not at the center of the bull's eye, but it was back aligned with the initial burned spot. Does this mean that 4 position is out of alignment? Should I try to align the mirrors and red pointer in the bull's eye at the 4th position?
@MakerExperiment
@MakerExperiment 10 ай бұрын
You should start in position 1 and move to 2, 3, and 4 in that order. There will be some back and forth between 3 and 4 until they both land within that center spot.

If I understood correctly, your red dot pointer is blurry and difficult to make it better. The only thing that comes to mind is make sure all of your mirrors are clean and use tape over the target if possible like I did. Just on the target, the red dot can be a little difficult to see and the tape helps make that a little more visible. I hope that helps.

It could be a couple things. 1. Have you made sure it’s turned on at the touchscreen? 2. If it is turned on, can you see it if you put your hand in front of the laser head? If so, your mirror may be so misaligned that it’s not hitting the target.

So your Mirror #3 graphic and your hand drawn arrows don't correspond to turning the screws clockwise. The graphics show the two upper screws when turned clockwise should go the opposite direction as you drew them. Probably not that big of deal, but thought I would point it out so people could draw their arrows in the correct direction if they wanted to.
@MakerExperiment
@MakerExperiment Жыл бұрын
The intent of my arrows was just the direction it’ll change the spot. It didn’t necessarily correlate to clockwise rotation but people can choose to do that if they wish.

Hi, great video. I'm having an issue where I can't find the red dot? I moved the screws around a bit, and I just can't find it? I replaced the tube on an Epilog Fusion Edge 24; wondering if you have any idea why? Could the mirrors be adjusted so that the red dot becomes visible? I am sure it's working as I took it off and pointed it at the wall, and the red dot shows there, just not on the target or even on my engraving table? I contacted Epilog support, but they don't seem to know either? Anyway, great video if you have any idea what could cause this, it would be a great help to me. Thanks!
@MakerExperiment
@MakerExperiment Жыл бұрын
Have you checked out the tube replacement video as well to make sure it’s not something on that side? What I would do is put a piece of tape after each mirror like an inch away. Make sure the red dot is hitting after each mirror. That should help you narrow down the root cause.
@robertlong6095
@robertlong6095 Жыл бұрын
@@MakerExperiment Yes, great video, but that's not it. I will try the tape idea, do you mean I put the tape over the mirror? Or in front of it? Do you mean I should hold it in front of each mirror and then adjust it until I see the red dot?

@@MakerExperiment Hi, thanks I managed to get the red dot back; it turns out I needed 4 new mirrors. However, now that I've replaced them, I followed your video tutorial on alignment, but for some reason, although I can now see a clear dot on the masking tape covering the target, the burn does not happen when I push the "pew" button. It's like the laser is pointed somewhere else, and I can't find where it's pointed so I can align the red dot with it? Any ideas from anyone would be great! Sorry if I'm annoying, I just have the holidays coming up, and I need to fix this. I tried adding a larger radius of masking tape to pick up the burn mark, but that did not work. I tried adjusting all the mirrors' positions but couldn't find it.

Did you check your perpendicular alignment with the camera alignment? It was off when I did a test engraving so I had to align the 4th mirror with the camera at the focal length. Wondering if you had to do the same.

@MakerExperiment 3 жыл бұрын
I did the perpendicular alignment in the video near the end. The camera alignment is something that should be done independently typically. I’m not sure exactly what you did.

@@MakerExperiment Yes, I did my camera alignment first and everything was fine. After the engraving, the camera view aligned with the engraving. However, after doing the perpendicular alignment, the engraving was no longer aligned with the camera so I had to adjust mirror 4 to align with the camera again. Wondering if you had the same experience because doing the perpendicular alignment didn't work for me.
@MakerExperiment

@@BuiltForGreatness I haven’t had that issue. I will say that sometimes, you may have to do things like that or even align the camera and do all your other alignments again after a mirror alignment. It can all be kind of a challenge at times.
