Nice work Trevor. It's great seeing you explore the possibilities of this UV printer. I think to minimise confusion, the ink is CLEAR not gloss. You refer to it as gloss ink, and that is what people are picking up in the comments. Typically UV print has a matte look to it. Although there is probably a clear ink finish setting which will allow for a gloss look. The clear ink doesn't get set by the uv lamps as quick and the slight movement of ink creates a smoother gloss finish. Looking forward to what other projects you create whilst exploring more features of UV printing.

3D printing nerd featured a company using the tech to 3D print in full color, essentially printing the edges of the model with UV color ink and then infill pattern with a solid.

Thanks for the work flow demo. We have a Mimaki and you're right, there are several ways to accomplish this effect. What caught my attention the most and caused me to pause was your usage of the Seklema mat. You marked your position with a simple reference rectangle on the mat. We always thought it's use case was on the Epilog for substrate hold downs. How are you cleaning the marks? Windex? LA's Totally Awesome? Do you have a link for the Seklema? It looks like we'd have to cut the mat to size if we got one.
@MakerExperiment

I actually clean it with either isopropyl alcohol or packaging tape. Packing tape applied and ripped off will get off a lot of it. I got mine from LogoJet. I don’t know if they have it cut to size or not. Enduramark sells a similar mat. They may be able to cut it to a custom size if you ask. Just let them know I sent you and ask.

Trevor... Couple questions. Was this a "print receptive" acrylic, as I didn't see you use a promoter? Also no bleed around the color & clear layers to be sure the print covers the edges of the acrylic? If there was I didn't notice any color printed on the mat.
@MakerExperiment
@MakerExperiment Жыл бұрын
If it’s cast acrylic it doesn’t need the adhesion promoter from what I’ve been told. Extruded acrylic would. I did do a bleed but it was very minimal.
@James01520
@James01520 Жыл бұрын
@@MakerExperimentI didn't know that. I'm going to try it without promoter then. That stuff smells worse then the laser does cutting the acrylic.

Yea I think you messed up here. All you basically did was add an additional layer of black ink. Your spot gloss should’ve been a different color specific to your uv printers gloss setting software. Like for my Roland “gloss” is a teal color that’s unique to versaworks and automatically tells the machine to use gloss ink only. Not sure which uv printer you have.
@MakerExperiment
@MakerExperiment Жыл бұрын
Could it have been better? Yeah. I don’t disagree with that. Lessons learned as I learn more about UV printing. It used a gloss ink only but it could have been more glossy. The white, blue, red, and black areas I added gloss to all raised up and stayed the same color. Like I said in the video there’s probably other ways to do it and it’s all part of the learning process.

When you peeled off the protective paper, did it leave any fingerprints behind? I ask as i can see some smudges on the black print around 8:57 I’ve used gloves in the past to prevent leaving the oil from your skin behind. It’s been over 30 years since I’ve done anything print shop related. That said, great work and tutorial.

I wiped it down with isopropyl alcohol. The smudges were from me handling it later. It cleans right up. You are right though. I usually either wear gloves or clean it while it’s on the bed.

In my opinion, it's not gloss but only raised print because the result is not gloss enugh than any other gloss uv print on youtube. Maybe you need check the UV lamp not curing properly during the clear print or maybe you select wrong setting to print glossy effect. But cool video👍

I am already doing sublimation with ceramic ornaments and pretty successful with it. I have sold over 15.000 in 2 years. But I want to start selling arcylic and glass as well. The most successful sellers on ETSY are doing UV prints, or uv dtf for acrylic (not sure, but I know it is not sublimation. I ordered samples from them they told me that they use Japanese UV printing technology, not sure if thats a lie lol) I found this printer for $2.6k ( 6.7" Single Head A4 UV Printer A4-C procolored ) Tray is small but enough to start. I am just concerned about the print quality whether the colors would be vibrant or not. I know nothing about uv prints. I own 3 sublimation printers already and running successful business. Thank you so much for your reply, seriously means lot to me. I have been researching about uv prints for a while. @@MakerExperiment
