Another quick sewing machine viedo. In this one we discuss a very scary subject... thread tension. It's such a simple thing to get right, yet so many are nervous to mess with it.

It is funny that you are doing this video. I have been looking all over KZbin for this exact advise for 4 days now. I wish I would have seen that you don't recommend touching the bobbin, because other videos have lead me astray. I have adjusted the bobbin and now I am paying hell trying to get the bobbin back to "factory" settings.

In the Army we had a very vulger saying that I use when talking about the bobbin. Do not read further if you don't want to hear the vulger saying. "The goat has been f..ked, and you can't un- F...k the goat."

Should of used a black thread for bobbin thread so it made it extremely easy to see for new people so they understood better , but overall one of the best machine thread tension video's.

So when I got my 26 machine last week I was really nervous… but your vids sure have helped…. A question about thread tension a friend told me that on lighter threads to run the thread through two of the holes on the bar on top of the machine but on heavier thread just one hole does that sound right
@makersleathersupply12207 ай бұрын
It might work out. I've always threaded mine exactly the same with all threads but that would slightly change the tension which could make up the difference in size.

Thanks very much for this video! One question though, on the backside every now and then, I will get a wadded up mess on the first 5-6 stitches. The top appears fine but the bottom looks like hell. But after a 1/2” or so it smooths out. What do you think is causing this mess?
@makersleathersupply12207 ай бұрын
99% chance it's from not holding your threads tight when you start

Enjoy these videos. I bought my 26 and np4 from you guys and can always have any issues worked through just from watching your vids. On the 26 since the bobbin is different is it fair to say I really shouldn’t ever need to mess with bottom tension?
@makersleathersupply12207 ай бұрын
On the 26 that adjustment is just aa easy, but I still wouldn't mess with it unless your tension issue can't be fixed from the top alone.

So I was sewing a holster and the threads looked great with two layers of leather. Then I went to sew the fold over which would make 4 layers and the stitch length was cut in half and too close together. Then I remembered that you had a video on that and I adjusted the thread length so that it more closely matching the two layer sides. My question is on the 26, is there a way to know what number to adjust to for the different thickness of the leather? Is it for say I started on a 1 and then switch to say a 4 for the thicker leather or is there a rule of thumb or just trial and error. If so I would need scrap of the same thickness to test on before stitching each of the layers. Probably a dumb question. I am good at that
@makersleathersupply12207 ай бұрын
If there's a rule that correlates with the number I haven't figured it out yet. The more you get to know your machine the more you'll spit the dial and say "right about there". Until then you can always take some scraps of equal thickness and adjust it before putting your project in.

Also, would this machine be good for sewing belts. 8-12 oz?

I do it all the time.

you didn't tell me anything about setting up the bottom thread. Not how it is stretched, but with what force the screw should be tightened, that is, how tightly the thread should come out of the bobbin cap
@makersleathersupply12202 ай бұрын
That is a case by case basis. All machines are different. It should not come out too freely, but it is also not near as tight as the top tension.
