Mass customisation is a game changer for people with disabilities. I've been using custom arches for my footwear due to flat feet since I was a child, size of footwear has always been an issue, if I get a fitting footwear I'll buy couple of them as backup and lately I've given up on getting arches for footwear. I appreciate Retraction Footware going in this direction, but that strap in this particular model wouldn't even last a day on my foot and I hope they create better strap (or) supply normal replaceable straps which aren't 3D printed (until they're able to 3D print good straps). Actually, a friend of mine needed custom-adjusted thongs for her feet and they cost really a lot more then this. So for that 'world' this can be a very nice and well priced product. Don't forget by the way that many people get problems with feet or back because of 'wrong shoes' and many times you end up with much to hot specially made shoes where a pair of custom-sized flipflops like these would be very handy. One of my concerns is just how long they will last in real use.

What may be worth paying for (but not $100) would be some software that would generate an .stl file so you could print your own. The software would let you adjust width, length, arch, etc. but you could then print them in various colors, filament types, etc. You could even customize the strap and even the tread so you could leave a unique footprints. Gee, I'm getting ideas for a really cool product.

A counterpoint to your argument against shoe sizing is that the difference between a size 10 and a size 10.5 is 1/6". That's less than the amount a foot can grow or shrink in length depending on time of day and load. It's not really going to make any appreciable difference if you have a show crafted that is *exactly* the size of your loaded foot because as soon as you take weight off of it it's no longer going to fit perfectly.

Unfortunately my printer suffered some issues and couldn't quite manage it. So it's not just the look, but the novelty and exclusivity that people will lay for, although I must agree, if he wants to reach a wider, more general consumer base, the price will need to drop, I'd say $60 would be a very nice price point

What happens if you leave them in a hot car in the middle of summer or walk on the road on a stupidly hot day. would they begin to melt?

I think it would be a good upgrade if they wouldn't 3D print the bands as well. They seem really, really weak too. Why not just print the base and then add super comfortable and more robust bands generated with a different manufacturing process? Not EVERYTHING has to be 3D printed just because we can.

I have a fallen arch in my right foot. I have custom-made orthotic sandals to literally hold up the arch and stop the pain. I can attest to how good the idea of mass customization is though my sandals were not 3D printed.

There was a company of which I have several pair of shoes and boots from them. they did not custom size but you could completely customize all the coloring of the shoes/boots. Customatix. Was really sad to see them go. fantastic shoes and boots.

I wonder how they'll hold up on hot surfaces? I feel like they'd get a little sticky walking across a hot parking lot.
