I've always wanted to do something like this (probably for Link rather than Mario) but wasn't sure how to chamfer such small pieces. What a great idea for a jig!

You have become quite professional over time, and your enthusiasm is boundless - you are lucky to be doing something you love - and be successful. With all that you have not become boring. (others have to me - not mentioning names) Your art and woodworking are a good combination. Oh, hats off to Mario :)

Very very cool! I love the use of the three woods. I built an 8 bit pixel Luigi last year out of a 2x4, and ever since have wanted to make a raccoon Mario. But sanding the almost 400 pixels has kept it in the notebook, instead of on my workbench.

I think when you glued down the pixels you could have taped down a straight edge to register each row of pixels when you glue them. It wouldn't take much longer, just use the first and last pixel from left to right to register your straight edge. Put some pressure on it squeezing on the set up pixels a little and then just tape down the framing square or whatever straight edge you use. After you glue down that row then just move the straight edge and repeat. That will help keep the horizontal lines of the picture pretty straight, vertical lines do not have to be as perfect because of how we see horizon lines. When looking straight ahead our eyes will see imperfections in horizontal lines better than vertical lines. If our eyes were stacked one above the other then...

Really like this and I think I'm going to do something similar the one thing I don't like is like around the face where the lighter blocks blend more with the background so I think when I try it I might either paint the background white or paint a scene from sbm 1 world 1-1 like ground sky and clouds but I love this I always say that games is my seat back hobby and woodworking is my get up and do something hobby lol

Awesome! David, Did you have any trouble deciding the background? The only thing, and it may just be the camera, but the lighter "pixels" seem to blend in a bit with the background wood. The gloss will definitely help make Mr. Mario Mario pop. Great video! I want to make one!
