The copper wire is called a “single turn nfc antenna” it’s the same tech that your tap enabled credit cards use. The antenna tells the phone that the wallet is connected so it can report to “Find My” the location as well as play the custom animation when attached. The flaky stuff, I have to assume, is probably an RFID blocking feature like many other techy wallets have.
@HeinItsEli2 жыл бұрын
Stripped down to just the antenna do you think it could be mounted on another object and still work? Or is it charged by the phone and needs constant contact for it to keep the gps “find my phone” function?
@Entertainment-2 жыл бұрын
@@HeinItsEli The wallet just communicates their "ID" via the NFC chip, the actual GPS tracking is done on the phone and send to Apple for their Find My Network. The moment the wallet is detached, the last known location is remembered by the phone and shows up on Find My. But without an iPhone the wallet can't be located.

I've had mine for a couple of years now -- and it's mostly been great, and still works great, still holds my cards - but the finish has been shot for months now. Is there any way to recondition something like this?

I was considering cutting mine open to see if my lost SD card was somehow stuck in there. Having watched your video, I no longer need to do that. I used the wallet to hold a couple SD cards and lost one of them. I was thinking that little spring thing you showed us was possibly my SD card. It almost felt like there was a square hole in the bottom of the wallet. So I thought I would look it up and it was awesome to find your video. Plus you went above and beyond to make it very professional. Good job and thank you for the video.

I had to buy a new one as my current or at this point old one was falling apart, I got it along side the iPhone 12 Pro in 2020 and buying the new one I can say they have been slowly improving it as the new one has find my and seems to be built better than the 1st gen one

This wallet has the ability to help you find it if it ever detaches from your phone. I believe that electronic part with the copper wire around it is what helps the phone detect the detachment. Great video man !

Very Interesting. It is like IKEA furniture, 80$CAN a wallet it is cheaper to buy one than to make one. I am sure that if you buy the individual parts the cost would be similar; but then if you count in your labour, you will be working under Bangladeshi minimum wage. I do woodworking but when my kids want a bookshelf for their dorm the answer was IKEA. You as crafter would buy 1, 10 maybe 100 units, those big companies outsourced hundreds of thousand. Your tear down was very informative.
