I think the Takara one is really good for when it was done and I've never had a problem with it. My Takara Dirge has zero QC issues and has a very simple transformation making it more enjoyable to flip back and forth. While this one is better for sculpt and overall robot aesthetics the differences don't blow me away and that gap behind the cockpit is a deal breaker for me(assuming that the gap is there no matter what). Thanks for taking a look at this.

The Takara seeker mold is old as the hills. I'll hold off on bashing them until Starscream v3, but if they use the same ass plastic as Hound I'll be going in on a full Maketoys set.

By the time you'll make up your mind the seekers will cost like gazillion $. Just got my Starscream/Meteor. For the price of a small car. 😁

If MakeToys uses the same ass plastic for their Coneheads they used for their Seekers, it's an easy decision to keep the Takara or KO of Takara Coneheads until such time as Fans Toys or XTB delivers a superior MP Coneheads set.

IF the rumors are true an the other two Maketoys coneheads are coming out this year, then I hope you get a chance to review them both. As I am VERY curious to see how this Maketoys conehead design has held up; aesthetics and quality wise; to modern MP figures like the DS and Official seekers.

They're out. I wouldn't say they're up to MP-52 or DS standards, but they're still the best coneheads on the market currently.

Mine has the same looseness on the pelvis and upper wings. Still very happy with my purchase. I only had ramjet from hastac,so this was a no brainer.

Is no one going to comment about how the carnards (forward wings) do not flip down in robot mode for accuracy to the character of Dirge? That's a huge oversight by Maketoys. That said, it does obliterate the Takara version, so there's no comparison or versus battle needed, but still, the carnards not folding down, bother me. Incredible looking jet mode, and the rest of the robot looks great. Good review , Bobby. Keep up the good work! =P

Comparisons are always welcome! It's like the Transformers Celebrity death match. I'm also not interested in these, mostly because they are kind of large and I'm running out of shelf space. but I really really wish they sell well so Maketoys can have some cash to continue afloat. Yeah I was tempted to rebuy the coneheads. This review calmed that sentiment down. I will say that the various face plates are nice though. Would be a cool thing to add to the Takara.

I think this guy does everything he needs to, looks good on the shelf and fits in well with the rest of the gang. As you say nothing to exciting but I don't think these repaints can be to exciting because we basically know what we're getting. That being said I'm looking forward to the next two and finishing the set :)

4 down, 2 to go. Fingers crossed they ship before they go out of business or the mold degrades to an un-usable state. My copy has a loose pelvis, head popped off, and the front hip skirt came off posing him. All the joints that matter are good though. Agree, not an exciting character, but if you’re in, you’re in for the long haul. I only had the Hasbro Skywarp ($25 Walmart clearance), so I’m not double dipping on these characters. Takara has priced me out of their larger offerings, so Maketoys are my MP seekers.

I passed on the Takara seekers way back when because I thought they looked like ass even when they were new. I'm in on the MakeToys seekers, and since I got them at release I'm not paying the insane after-market prices. I'm very happy.

Passed on this one too. Will probably pick up Thrust. I have their Starscream and the head on the coneheads looks way better. Definitely beats the MP version, but it's still just Dirge.

I think almost everyone agrees that the TT Seekers and Coneheads don't live up to the bare minimum to be MP figures. I would be interested in seeing Toy World Coneheads vs Make Toys Coneheads.

Not a fan of the other releases from other companies and unless fanstoys decide to start on seekers, I'm going to stick to Maketoys for my flyboys. They do a good job on my shelf and this chap holds up well to my other figures to be fair. Great review again, thanks

Great rvw. I would like to see Takara vs Maketoys if you could find the time. I feel like takara has a better alt mode and Maketoys better aesthetics and articulation. I feel slightly cheated with with the fake landing gear and cockpit with maketoys. Maybe small things but even g1 gave you this and it's 2020.

Since Meteor, I really have a huge love for the MakeToys Seekers over TT's MP-11 base. The pro of MT, is the lack of turbines in the black vents which indeed something TakaraTomy hasn't done.

Great review as always, Bobby. I don’t really know how to feel about this. On one hand, I think it would have a great shelf presence, but on the other hand, there is heaps of drawbacks to this figure (in my opinion). But one thing I can say is that there is finally a better conehead than Takara’s poor excuse of a conehead.
