I never realized how much I would need to change how I apply my makeup as I got older. I turned 58 this year and found that setting powders aged me terribly. Believe me, I have tried every combination possible! BUT, what I have done is gone back to a more matte foundation, and apply just a small amount of the Elf Halo Glow powder and LOVE it. I have also stopped wearing concealer! I don't have dark under eyes, so my foundation covers perfectly. Again, I add a tiny amount of a glowy powder and it looks wonderful. I have spent so much money on concealers this year and did the Robert Welsh technique, but everything looked terrible! I'm thrilled with my new discoveries!!😍

Where abouts do you put the glow powder? Is it all over or just cheek bones? I'm 53 and I've had to wear a lot less face makeup aswell, less is definitely more youthful as you get more mature (shall we say!) Foundation is out, concealer around the eyes is out, blusher is out - even though a lot of people say its youthful, it just looks too much on me, bronzer seems to look more natural. Less eyeliner is good too because it can look too hard and aging around the eye. On the plus side, I love mascara, accentuating my eyebrows and wearing a glossy lipstick, it makes me feel alive lol!

@@mariarobson8116 Maria, you have basically described all the changes I have made in the past few years. When all the "dewy/hydrating" foundations became the rage and considered anti-aging, I started using them. After setting them I had aged 10 years. I have also improved and invested in skincare, so my skin looks better than it ever has. So I only wear a small bit of foundation for special occasions. The Elf Glow powder has been a great find for me this year. But I use such a tiny amount. I do set my undereyes with it, but you can barely see it I use so little of it. Then I will take the same amount on a fluffy brush and go over my cheek area. And, some days I will put some on my forehead because it blurs the skin. I don't use enough of it to cause it to look like a highlighter. My skin just has a radiance to it. I am very fair, so I use the Maybelline City bronzer in 100 which gives me color without looking overdone. I have to admit I love blush, and my favorite is the Milani blush in Luminoso. It has a sheen to it so I don't need a highlighter. If I do use a highlighter, the only one that works for me is the Elf baked highlighter in Moonlight Pearls. I don't wear setting spray and the best foundation I've tried is the Believe Beauty Skin Finish foundation! I was about to go back to the high end foundation I have worn for years (before trying the dewy look), and took a chance on this one. I LOVE it, and the shade match is perfect. Good luck to you.... aging is rough but we can all share information with each other to get us through!❤️😉

3 tips that actually work for me, so I hope it works for anybody who is interested. 1.) Best tip ever if you have problems blending eyeshadow. Instead buy qtips and its a cheaper alternative. I swear it will help you blend eyeshadow especially if you have problems with a patchy eyeshadow. This is very beginner friendly. Also helps bring eyeshadow down if you put it way to high on the brown bone area. 2.) Get a mascara that is not waterproof. Get it out of the tube and cover the tube with a paper or put it upside down. From there air dry the mascara wand for about 45 sec using up and down motions. Then curl the eyelashes and apply mascara. It will hold the curl for sometime. 3.) Best hack ever I recently discover on my own. Get a lip balm and a eyeshadow palette. Apply lip balm all over the lips and then get a lip brush. Get the lip brush and apply eye shadow on the lips. You can create many different combinations if you can't find an exact color that you want. It just gives a nice tinted color on the lips if you aren't a lipstick kinda girl.

I never used to put mascara on my lower lashes, it looked so messy to me (kind of made my lashes look... oddly bulky? I have longish curly lashes., they get unruly, lol. And mascara gets everywhere if I'm not super careful!! anyway , at a makeover, a makeup lady asked me why I hadnt applied to my lower lashes. I said, I don't know, just seems like too much. But I always felt insufficient after that, lol. So I would usually try to apply it. Not always thrilled with how obvious it looks though. I'm glad that there's precedence for not wearing it, lol;!! I've seen videos suggesting using brown on lower lashes, and I like to do that, it's more subtle.

Best tip I learned this year was for applying mascara. It's basically a 4 step method: start by adding a small amount to just the tips of the top lashes, then go back and start about halfway from the root to the tips, then jump to the bottom lashes and finally go back to the top and start all the way from the roots the tips. It is seriously amazing, I think because you're allowing a little dry time, it makes it super easy to build up! ☺

spritzing a brush with setting spray has changed my makeup game big time! Especially being a 53 year old with a few *ahem* wrinkles. Plus, I've also started spritzing my lightly damp beauty blender after I have applied and set my concealer. Just lightly tap under my eyes to take away some of the dryness from the powder and I am good for the day. :)

I have to be honest. Robert Welsh has taught me SO many techniques since I discovered him. My #1) being an oily skin mid 30s gal, he told us to apply less concealer and try NO powder and OMG my makeup has never looked better. I thought adding powder being oily would make me look better but in fact it's the opposite! Less concealer and no powder makes my skin look like I'm in my 20s again. I am so thankful for Robert, Zabrena, and Nikkia 💯💯💯 Also I started to apply powder, contour/highlight/putty blush etc with a damp sponge and it looks flawless!

Mascara does that to me and my mascara will smudge if I put it on the bottom even if I powder I think I've noticed that not only the shadow that it casts sometimes depending on the brand or depending on the formula, but also depending on the brand or formula sometimes just certain people have oily eyes for some reason glands and I don't have oily skin type so there you go! I am catching up...Happy New Year. Totally agree about NOT wearing mascara on the lower lashes. I am not sure if it was a tip from you or EmilyNoel83 or W Goss...but sometimes the darker shade of eyeshadow that goes in the outside v gets out of control...the tip is just dab a bit of concealer over it...also if you do get a dot of mascara somewhere other than your eyelashes - LET IT SIT for a few minutes, after it dries it will just dust away with a small brush! Finally, rather than buying expensive lip treatments - I use a small dab of Aquaphor cream on my lips at night - works beautifully! Oh - and my best new find in 2020 - YOUR CHANNEL...thank you!

The thing that I've been doing most is completely ditching my fluffy eyeshadow blending brush. What I use instead to blend out the crease is actually the ELF eye crease brush. It's a small dome shaped brush and I've noticed that it gives me more control when I'm blending. I have smaller hooded eyes and I've noticed that this really let's me keep the shadow shape I want without it getting too over blended and needing to correct. It's especially great for doing a winged outer corner because instead of wasting qtips and remover correcting and having a harsh line I just apply my shadows and I have so much control in blending them out into the exact shape I want. I also started applying my brow gel/brow mascara first and then doing my eyebrows based on where the brow gel didn't cover. I use the rimmel brow marker since it lets me create little hair strokes. I find doing my eyebrows like this keeps me from over drawing them and keep them natural looking.

Quick question: would you ever consider doing a video explaining makeup brushes? I know videos exist, but you're awesome at explaining things slowly and in detail, and it's why I watch. :)

Great tips! this year i had fun experimenting with more bold and dramatic eye looks but with a more natural no makeup base. and really loved it. i used to think that if youre eye shadow is dramatic or bold etc etc that you base needed to be "heavier" full coverage makeup to balance it out but ive come to believe that really isnt true.

My go-to has become to use a brown pencil liner, draw a small wing, and then use an angled brush to flare up and inward to create a defined outer V and a subtle transition in my crease. And then I fill in with a single shadow to complete the look

I spray my setting spray onto my sponge then dab on my face, i seen Mel Thompson doing it in one of her videos and i thought I'll give that ago and its great, i do apply setting powder before my Foundation i learnt that from you so thank you for that it really controls the oil on my skin before applying my Foundation, and i apply blush up to my temples now to give a more lifted look

Ditto. The back side of my orange RT sponge is nice and big for rolling on the spray.

I learned a tip from an OLD Wayne Goss video on how to make your foundation look natural. He said to add 1 (ONE) drop of face oil to foundation. The foundation goes on smooth, looks natural and still covers what you want it to cover. I don't know how this would work on oily skin but, it works great on my normal skin. I also don't know if he's updated or changed his opinion on this tip but, I still like it and use it every time I do my makeup.

What face oil do you use? I've never used a face oil so I wouldn't know what to buy.
@CKotaGo7

@@subboxjunkie8298 As I recall, Wayne didn't mention a specific oil. I'm not a skin care expert so I can only tell you what I use. I have normal skin, not prone to oiliness, dryness or breakouts. I use a hemp seed oil (Advanced Clinicals) that I found on Amazon. Other oils that might be good are Rose hip seed (anti-aging), Marula (reduces dryness, inflammation}, Jojoba (acne, psoriasis) or argan (moisturizing) oils. Since you only use 1 drop I don't know if they have any affect on the skin.

My main tip that I came up with. Every once in a while either if I don't have any brow products available or just need the extra hold, I use a liner brush, dip it in some runny hair mousse & dip that into an eyeshadow or contour color to match your Brows & fill them in. This fills them in as usual, but the hair mousse doubles to keep it all in place.

Happy New Year! I use Maybelline baby lips, much like the Balm you used, and the application idea, I will try the concealor technique. Looking brighter is a good thing. One thing I use is smaller brushes on my cheeks and bronzer. Most times I have a smaller place to put product on. Real techniques setting brushes are perfection. I would also use Wet n Wild Brulee can be a great setting powder over concealor. Ecotools makes a wonderful set of a fan brush and setting brush. $5.99 on Amazon Prime. I try your setting spray techniques. I find that setting spray can liquify and take forever to dry. Very wet. If you looking for long wearing foundation, Estee Lauder doubleWear, Maybelline SuperStay foundation stick. Be well, Lynn

I also never apply mascara to my lower lashes, I just use a black eyeliner in my waterline to give definition. Another trick if you struggle with applying shimmery shades with a brush, use a mini sponge instead, they work much better than the brushes and easier to apply in the corners of the eyes.

I have two tips: following on from your bottom lash tip where you leave them bare, I use a brown mascara. Still get the nice mascara fluffy effect, but its its waaay less harsh than black. And also, if you have dry skin like me but love those longwear matte foundations, dab it on, and then spray a hydrating spray (not a setting spray, just a hydrating mist, I use nip & fabs dragons blood one) then blend. Honestly. Game changer.

Stopped lower lash mascara because when I wear concealer, I end up with raccoon eyes. I’m too old for powder in that region, so I decided to try it. My bags have bags. As you said, this helps keep focus off. Happy New Year in advance. 🥂
