I just did a mini purge as I’m not well and have a few set backs in terms of anxiety issues ect ect and it’s easier for me to break things up into little sections too, it’s ok that you kept most of it, you will probably get rid of more and even if you don’t that’s ok too. Hope your feeling well

Good for you. I’m inspired now. Thanks for showing your process. I’m overwhelmed by beauty products too - hardest category for me. It’s hard because there’s something I like about each item - that’s why they never get tossed. I feel anxiety, too but I’m slowly getting better at letting go - have to remind myself that “stuff” is causing me stress, keeping nice things from people who would love it, and is making me feel guilty for wasting so much money. I need to take the plunge.
@AimeeRebecca7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, you should definitely give it a go. I was the same as you at first. There was a time when I didn't want to part with anything and every time I got rid of something it would cause me anxiety. Now I get a huge buzz from getting rid of stuff I don't use because I've realised I can enjoy my space so much more when it's not overcrowded. Don't give up. It's worth it in the end! :D

Please take this as an advice: 1. You really should clean your brushes (or buy new ones if it is not possible to clean them properly) 2. To avoid skin and eye problems like acne or inflammation you also should not keep: powder-based makeup, pencils and nail polishes opened for more than 3 years/older than 5 years; mascaras opened for more than 9 months/older than 2 years; foundations, creams, balms and oils opened for more than 1 year/older than 2 years; all other cosmetics opened for more than 2 years/older than 3 years. I believe you will not even throw away far more, but also will think twice before you buy something new...
@Pysslis7 жыл бұрын
Kitty Seven there is no exoneration date for nail polish. As long as you store them properly they are good for many years.
@mrzhyde91397 жыл бұрын
Pysslis i believe they were refering to anything that goes on the face given the examples/dates they used
@Pysslis7 жыл бұрын
Mrz Hyde She wrote verbatim, nail polishes opened for more than 3 years/ older than 5 years.
@Jooney917 жыл бұрын
Pysslis It is not becase of hygiene, but because of chemical reactions. Nail polishes consist of pigments and chemicals that are keeping pigments together and chemicals that allow nail polish to dry and so on. However after few years they split and nail polish is not even usable anymore. Opening the bottle will - obviously - speed up this process. Or why do you think they put expiration dates on the bottles?
@Pysslis7 жыл бұрын
Kitty Seven I own approximately 500 nail polishes, several of them 10-15 years old and they still work great. I've seen maybe three polishes get runny and change colors, it rarely happens. "Your nail polish should last forever, as long as you store it properly,” -Essie "The Period-After-Opening number is required for most cosmetics by the European Union (EU), but it is rather meaningless for nail lacquer." -OPI

I sold a lot of the products that im not going to use. I had a lot of extra stuff from being subscribed to a beauty subscription for like a year. I just decided what i was in no way going to use or just tried once and whatever, grouped them with 10 products per box and they sold for 10 euro easily. Most buyers were like college kids that dont have the money for it and they were realllly happy to get nice stuff for cheap :) (friends and family didnt want or need anything as some did the same subscriptions).. i also cancelled the subscription. I still have quite a bit of extras, but they are backups of things i know i like and use up all the time. I feel a lot better about my pile though after watching ppls declutters. I have way less than most. I think you did great by the way :)
@AimeeRebecca7 жыл бұрын
That's such a good idea! I'm glad your decluttering is going well. I've often thought of joining a subscription service, but I'd probably end up like you and have a bunch of stuff I wouldn't use. Your idea of sticking to things you now you like is a much better idea!

hahahah love this video hahah the begining is incredible .i end up being a minimizer now as well lol . for me is important to hae some choices . i have few of each things most of my things are not even high end accept foundation and lipstick rest is just primark and just aliexpress . i made my DECLUTTER video just yesterday and today i manage to fit all in one small place omg . i have bit more than u have but u have more quality products than me . i have lets say 8 lipsticks 3 foundations 1 powder 1 concealer 2 small palletes 2 highlites 1 contour pen 3 blushes 3 maskaras and few liners . i have few sets of brushes bc got present from before . thats it few of each is pretty minimalistic . if i go travel i take 1 foundation 1 powder 1 concealer few brushes 1 pallete and 2 lipsticks so lets say i take half lol . fits in small beuty bag anyway :) so minimalistic life especially with make up is very important . first every product has experation date , second getting too much make choice harder of what to use . waste more money on products we dont like is also something important to consider .

Have you tried using a drawer liner or a glass top for your dressing table? Might help protect against the mess. I believe Marie Kondo also recommends keeping a cloth or rag around your sink to make cleaning it up much easier --- you could easily do the same for your vanity. :)

The thing with the drawers I have is they don't pop out. You have to dismantle the unit to pull them all the way out, which is pretty annoying.

In theory, you have to look at all contributing factors. Depending on cleaning, how sanitary you are and disinfect your products. Preservatives and chemicals are in a lot of make up...

Amanda Martin its ikea alex drawers and probably linmann in top. Linmann (or however its written) is very cheap but not thaaaaat great quality. I have it to and its doing fine but i think in a few years will need to be replaced for sure. Just for awareness... its not actually a desk. Nothing connects the plate on top of the alex drawers. Its simply put on top of it. And they advised me against using something like mirror tape to glue it down cause it will ruin both pieces if ripped apart. Just saying ;) but it does a great job.

It's probably because I'm so clumsy and spill everything haha! Rest assured, every time I do a declutter, everything gets wiped over with antibac so it's not dirty - just stained with foundation fingerprints and the like. Anything past its use-by date goes out, but I wouldn't waste perfectly good products just because they're not aesthetically pleasing. I've moved 6 (I think?) times since doing this declutter and I have so much less stuff now! By the time of my next move, I'll hopefully have hardly any beauty products to take with me :) xxx
