If you do a no buy week once per month (and dont overbuy the other weeks) that works out as three months of no buy over a year. As someone who recently choose to work part time, this allows me to live and do the things i value on a lower budget! Another idea is no spend during the work week.

Happy to explain it to you ☺️ Sometimes when people are embarking on something new, they find it helpful to have recommendations for products or tools that are helpful. Personally, I like getting recommendations from other people. Some things I recommend cost money but I always try to provide cost-free alternatives as well, just like in this video.

Im doing a low buy year this year. The reason it's a low buy and not a no buy, is simply because from experience my brain is very "all or nothing", so based on that, I kmow that the first little slip up is enough for me to give up the entire thing. So instead I'll have a low buy, where even if I slip up, I haven't failed. And my reasons are both finances, over the last few years my spending got out of hand and I need to get into saving and actually having control of my finances. And because I have so much stuff, I'm drowning in it, why do I keep buying more?????
@AimeeRebecca2 күн бұрын

I don't get this whole "its's normalizing XYZ". It's not. Kim Kardashian or Taylor Swift showing their private Jet all the fucking time too, are they normalizing private jets? No, bc the normal person can't afford one. The normal person can't afford so much bullshit too, the normal person knows that. If you don't know what you can afford and what not, you yourself are the problem, not people who can afford that. If Ali goes into debt for the next 40 years bc he buys a Audi or Mercedes he can't afford, that's not the fault of Thomas Müller or Manuel Neuer, who can afford 10 cars of that kind. You are adult people, that means you are old enough to vote, but blame other people for your purchases? Think about that, if you can't make good decision over your own life, why do you think you make a good decision by voting? So if you think this content is a threat, you shouldn't vote.

Maybe ask yourself why you are holding on to things you don't want or can't possibly use like maybe 5 tubes of Trentnoin. There are always woman's shelters who could really use these things as many woman leave home with minimal things on their backs and need to start over. You can help them and not be burdened with things you don't really want.

I volunteer with my local women's shelter and they don't take anything opened or partially used for hygiene reasons. So my niece is lucky because anything I decide I don't like or don't use always goes to her for first refusal 🙈

Don’t be hard on yourself, just work out which are the categories you need to work on or be careful of. My inventory (fellow spreadsheet nerd!) lets me put in the date I acquired something and the date I finished it. That allows me to have a chart that shows the amount of product I own every day of the year. I like it because I can see when I buy stuff (steep little increase) and then the numbers reduce again over time as I use them up. I also know how many of certain things I can use in a year, so I can bulk buy my favourite sunscreen knowing how many I need without overdoing it.
@AimeeRebecca6 күн бұрын
That is such a genius idea and I LOVE it!!

Why not instead of a project pan you do a “final declutter” getting rid of evetybing you don’t want and showing the process of getting rid of it, correctly recycling, or donating or selling. I fell off watching your project pan because as the same boat that I’m in, you’ve gotten rid of most of it!
@AimeeRebecca6 күн бұрын
I did a 'final' declutter last year...which turned out not to be final 🙈 I think the thing is, as my tastes change and my skin changes, the things I used to love don't appeal in the same way anymore. I don't do large-scale declutters anymore but every six months, at least a dozen products end up getting thrown away.

Pro tip for helping make sure your collection doesn't grow again: as you reduce your amount of belongings, reduce the size of the containers you keep them in. You won't feel the urge to fill up the space if there's less of it.

That has been really useful over the years. I've condensed my storage space down every year. I was able to get rid of another 2 storage containers last month! 🙌

Use up the cream blushes. They will expire faster than powders and were such an annoying trend that peaked from 2021-2023 to dell people more redundant products, when people have been mixing foundation and face lotion with red lipstick since forever. As for the tret, ask around if people want them but give them all the safety info, OR use them on your body/legs so you you can have nice skin all over. (Assuming you are always wearing sunscreen!!)
@AimeeRebecca6 күн бұрын
I don't have any cream blush anymore. I'd like to get one but whether I'll actually get around to it or not is another thing 😂 I'm going to try using the tret on my hands and see how that goes!

I think for things that get used up quickly like the face masks it's ok to have a few more spare, especially being mindful of then not getting more...and similarly it's ok I think to use the Christmas 'stock up' to last a chunk of the year!

@TheAliceinFinland6 күн бұрын
@AimeeRebecca thanks for replying! I struggle to find the right words, but what I meant was you could maybe be able to turn the singles into an 'optimized' palette of sorts and then get rid of one actual pallet that might have the same colors or colors that you don't use:)

i think you're being too hard on yourself regarding the number of products you have. i think the real concern is you had a subscription service sending you a tube of tret every month and it took you 10 months to put a stop to it 😂

I think you're being too hard on yourself with the face masks. If you had gotten 5 moisturizers, then yes, but masks are single use. If you'd wear one once a week, that's essentially a 4-week back up and sounds reasonable. I think when judging your actions, it's easier to think in terms of someone else: "would my non-hoarder friend/family member do smth similar?" or in terms of time: how long does it take to go through all of this? If the time answer is realistic (you only pass by a primark once a month or you have to go out of your way to get there) i don't think there's a problem Edit for spelling
@AimeeRebecca6 күн бұрын
Thank you for this! This is such a logical and helpful way of assessing things. I really appreciate it!
@jennyjenkins8779 күн бұрын
Not a problem... you've got this! Many overages were gifts and the subscription mess up. It also makes sense why you would buy a handful of sheet masks too. You'll easily be able to get that number down as well as the bath bombs. I'd actually want you to buy a cream blush if that's what you prefer to wear in the winter, when our skin is drier. Perhaps you could donate some bars of soap to a women's shelter or something though. Confession time... I probably have 200 essential oils and that's after decluttering about half so we all have our areas of weakness BUT I haven't bought any new ones in years and plan on never buying any again so we're being mindful and making progress now.
@AimeeRebecca6 күн бұрын
You're so right! If I see one I like, I think I'll treat myself ☺️ Ok, your essential oil confession is so appreciated because it's so relatable. Sometimes, no matter how much we declutter, there's that one area where we just can't let go. I totally get that!!

Yikes! It's crazy how quickly it all adds up! And even more crazy how long it takes to use it all 😂
@atie32189 күн бұрын
I think you are being too hard on yourself. It's ok to purchase multiple masks because it's literally 5 uses. You will use 1 moisturizer for so much longer. In k-beauty they often sell masks in packs of 10. Honestly i would consider that as 1 product. Also if you didn't bought 10 tretinoins or bars of soap yourself, then it's understandable that numbers went up and it's totally fine.
@AimeeRebecca6 күн бұрын
