Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time KZbinr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. The older I get, the more I can appreciate an all matte eyeshadow look. It just softens any crepey fine lines around my eyelids. I just turned 50 and realize what works and what doesn’t. I can still wear everything, but not in the same way. Shimmery looks are too fussy these days and matte comes off so effortlessly and hides texture well. I still do like shimmer - and always will! But I use it much less and more sparingly these days.

Merit is amazing. I love their products. Their blush lasts beautifullyl for me all day long and their foundation is the best I've ever used. I guess it depends on your skin

I picked up Persona Jam & Teddy from the Ulta sale. They are so good! I used Jam for under painting. When I put my foundation on top you could see the Jam color peeking through. The blush I put on top lasted so much longer and looked so pretty having Jam underneath. 😊❤️💄

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m really excited about the holiday releases this year from Tarte! Last year they did the eyeshadow palette duos in the maneater formula that were just fabulous- and I’m hoping this year is just as awesome! I know you’ll be the first to clue us in when it hits and if it’s worth it this year!!!!

Although I don't mind the layering of cream and powder blushes, I find it ridiculous that people are "expected" to. I mean, what if I bought the cream blush for its unique color? Why would I want to layer it with another blush and ruin the shade? And the point of most people buying a cream blush is just the ease of dabbing it on with fingers and walking out. Maybe even on bare skin. Who's gonna fuss around with 2 blushes when I'm not even ready to commit to a skin tint on the daily. 😅

Like i used to like a thick heavy matte coverage in my twenties and now in my forties i cant stand that. I don’t have the Mario blushes, but I tried the Patrick Ta technique with the blushes I have: powder FIRST, and cream on top. Gives a beautiful finish that lasts all day.

I'm going to be a heretic and say that matte powder shadows, to me, make my very textured, aging eyelids look worse. Really, powders in general just emphasize that texture up there. I got the Laura Mercier mini double pack that Ulta has so strategically placed by the checkout, and even the shimmer looks good; it actually diminishes the deep lines. So my take is that formula makes the difference, more than finish. (Of course, the Mercier shimmer is very subtle and not foil or glitter.)

I would love to see a comparison of affordable drugstore palettes. I’m really happy to see that the NYX was actually good because I’m always looking for drugstore palettes that can hold up well. The NYX formula on these new palettes remind me of a lot of the Korean and Japanese eyeshadows. The color story on these look beautiful. I wonder how these perform next to eyeshadow from Profusion, Essence and some of the other more affordable options?

Love this follow up......I tried the Persona Blush in Teddy and fell in love, so much so, when Ulta had them 1/2 off, I bought them all! Even bought the 2 new(er)shades on their site, Guave and Bloom!!!! I still the It CC cream but I've always added a drop of Rosehip oil to it, that works for me! Also LOVE the Nude Glow CC cream by IT, that is my winter preference!!! Just bought my summer color during the Ulta sale when it was half off! As far as Saie, I know so many people love this brand and I have not found 1 product to be something I'd wear, I bought the Slip Tint last year and their liquid blush-----returned them after 1 use. They just slid off my face, my skin is pretty normal, sometimes leans dry in winter. I tried the Hourglass tint and though it felt beautiful, it oxidized so much on my skin I had difficulty finding my correct neutral shade. I had 4 different samples, not one worked. I did wear one for a day and it too slid off my face. I do like the Tarte Tinted Moisturizer (original), really works for me. See ya soon!

This video is fantastic, so much respect for someone who put themselves out there and admits they make mistakes. I have found some foundations need to be shaken before worn because they separate but once I shake them they wear beautifully on the skin, some even say to shake on the packaging. I always shake my foundation anyways. You are very genuine. God bless💜

I don't particularly care for cream blush because I have oily skin, but nudestix actually lasts a very long time on my skin. So does the elf putty blushes.

Thanks for the video, Jen! Again, very useful content. I sometimes think that the better part of human wisdom is being willing to say "I was wrong." I have to agree that you may find matte eye shadow to be more becoming as you get older. (Except for a little bit of shimmer at the inner corners of your eyes as a highlighter.) But I think you'll find that it's quite possible to use matte shadows to create attractive looks. I'd like to suggest a couple of matte palettes you might try: Colourpop Gone Matte and the L.A. Colors Mattes palettes. The Colourpop looks to me like it mostly has warm colors, but there are some cool tones. And the L.A. Colors palettes come in several different combinations. I think this would make an interesting video (hint, hint.) And you can certainly still use shimmery cheek and lip colors! And highlighter in other areas, if you choose to.

I still love my Merit cream blushes. I prefer a subtle make up look and I always end with Hourglass finishing powder and Hourglass setting spray which locks it in for me. (I have mature dehydrated skin.) What I don’t like is the Merit lipstick and lip oil that everybody raves about. Just not as everybody - and the brand - describes it to be. I have other more nourishing and moisturising formulae that I prefer. I’ve passed mine on.

I’m glad you talked about the Persona blush. I have it ordered in the Ulta sale and got the Jam shade. I will have my brush ready. One of my favorite blushes and maybe my favorite is the powder one in Bubble. I never thought I would like that shade. I think I got it in a subscription box. It did the same thing on me - weird texture change during wear. I've heard that "clean beauty" emulsifiers are not as effective.

i love your transparency and honesty. btw, i’ve never tried the rare beauty lip liners, but pull out the cap on the bottom and there should be a little sharpener on there. i still prefer my nyx liners. they’ve never let me down. 🧡🧡🧡

The only makeup that has captivated my full senses these days are the Hourglass pallette (owl design), and the ND Nudes eyeshadow pallette. The rest of the make up is like "meh"...

I definitely agree just over 40 but tend to go for more subtle shimmers-I like matte eyeshadows but a lot of times they look kinda patchey. I really hate those glitter toppers they have in some palettes because my eyes get irritated easily. Got rid of another nyx palette because they had too many glitters. I think their formula has improved-they barely showed up when I first tried over 10 years ago. Was looking to get the huda cool obsessions soon.

I bought the Eucerin sunscreen off your recommendation and I love it for no makeup days. I have redness in my skin and this evens it out. I learned that I cant wear it if I'm going to be sweating because it doesn't last but it's good for running errands. I never wear makeup if I'm just running errands so this does make my skin look better for that.

I feel the exact same way you do! Every holiday release looks exactly the same. I bought the first few palettes but I realized that I wasn't even using them very often and they were too similar to each other. I won't buy another one until they make it more unique.

Purito BB Cream has become HG this summer. I think my skin's texture has improved a lot since I first tried it. I use Missha if I want a tad more coverage. But the finish of the Purito is 🤌 chef's kiss!

Have you tried the Rituelle De Fille 3-drop foundation? It LOVES a super-moisturized base and it doesn't budge once it sets down. It might work well with the Eucerin SPF. :)

Kelly Gooch did a short (I think) where she compared applying cream products directly to the face versus putting some of the product on the back of her hand and then using a brush/sponge to apply the product to her cheeks and wherever else on the face. Not applying it directly made it look a lot less harsh and seamless

Ah I didn't see her short but I've seen other people do it and it makes total sense. I used to apply directly from the stick because I always blended with my fingers and it seemed quick and easy. But I do like using a brush a lot more now!
