i think there’s a lot of pressure in the lgbtq+ community to know exactly who you are, and how you identify, which i used to find very difficult. i think it’s really important that people know that you never have to figure everything out! like who you like, and be who you wanna be!
@bruniipain

_exactly !! I'm part of the community myself, but choose to not use these labels or flags. Not that there's a negative reason, but some people prefer different ways to show self-love and support. What matters is that you're comfortable being YOU and take time_ ^^

I’m genderfluid, not because I can’t make up my mind but because I realized “oh… it doesn’t have to be a constant thing.” And nobody needs to choose labels, just be yourself!
@Milk-ck1wv

I realize that the reason it is that is probably because of the homophobes being upset over there being "too many genders" and "too many sexualities" so they try to make it so everybody has a set label so that they can't complain or comment on that. But that's just a speculation

I saw a post somewhere that compared labels to boxes and cats. You can't force a cat into a box it doesn't want to be in, but you also can't force a cat out of a box they got into on their own. It's all about choice.

I love everything you said here. For me, some labels feel empowering and they're important to me. Others feel stifling and they cause me to panic. So I just don't label my sexuality and I just use TransMasc and don't label anything beyond that. I get too stressed out when trying to figure out my gender and to me my sexuality is just people trying to put me in a box. I like who I like however I like them and that's enough for me. So do whatever's right for you and don't let others decide how you should or shouldn't label yourself. Have a good day y'all!

I've known I was queer my entire life but I only started figuring out what that meant for me during COVID, when I had my first interactions with queer people around my age (on the internet). I've found that there is an over-emphasis in LGBTQ+ spaces on having labels, especially among young queer people like me. I've definitely experienced the need to find a label that perfectly fits myself; I haven't found one yet and I don't think I ever will. I've seen myself and every other LGBTQ+ person around my age struggle to find a label that they feel works for them and I very rarely ever see someone find one successfully. People as a whole are weirder and much more unpredictable psychologically than we think ourselves to be. We often use labels commodify our experiences to make them easier for us and others to understand. Labels often deny us the nuance that is necessary to understanding ourselves and make us afraid of parts of ourselves that don't fit the mental narrative of the life story we end up fitting around the labels we chose for ourselves. Something I've seen time and time again is how people usually only really measure how they've felt since they started using their last label to decide on a new one. Labels are most often used to describe how one feels at the moment-perhaps in a short period of time prior to that as well-but is impossible to calculate how you exactly felt about something that happened a long time ago. Other people understand these labels as static and life-long. I don't think there is any word that could describe the lifetime of experience in one singular, specific area of someone's life that could ever become mainstream in a significant way. I've had multiple people that identify as trans men tell me that they attracted to women in a way that a lesbian might be attracted to a woman while still feeling very strongly like a man. This is a very specific experience that would be very hard to explain to someone that hasn't had to intensely grapple with their ideas of gender and sexuality themselves. It is very niche, there just aren't enough people who feel like this to make it something most people would know even if there was a label for it. In the mainstream, it is seen as very important (in the queer experience and outside of it) to realize you have been a specific thing all along that made you different from other people. With the power of this knowledge (and the label that nicely simplifies it all down for you) you can use to explain away all of the perceived differences between yourself and other people. In Harry Potter, Harry learns he's a wizard. In Heartstopper, Nick concludes that he's bisexual. Every queer person expects this moment to happen to them too, but it is so far from guaranteed. I see this same pattern over and over and over again in real life, but even more so on the internet. The sudden popularity of identifying as bisexual/bicurious, the major increase of people being neurodivergent (and self-diagnosing), all of the people who suddenly had DID until it was no longer popular and then never brought it up again: people try so hard to justify why they are special or different from other people, when in reality, we're not so much special as very complicated and filled with contradictions. All of these people have reasons for thinking that they are what they are, and some of them are probably completely right for saying that label fits them, but making a label mainstream comes with the added responsibility of policing (and ultimately) gatekeeping what can fit under that term and what is not a part of it at all. Saying "its a spectrum" is totally fine in making sure we're accepting of people's identities, but it sort of negates the purpose of the label existing in the first place. If we open labels up so that technically any person could fit under them, there is no line to draw anymore. I think this is what confuses people in the “What is a woman?” argument: there is no good way to understand a label when its based off such a vaporous, ever-changing idea of something. Labels are often forced upon us. They can be stressful, contradictory, and are expected to be static across lifetimes, which makes them very difficult to deal with. While making a label mainstream makes it easier for other people to understand and creates language that can be used to educate and spread acceptance, it can also create the language that can be used to oppress and harm those that use the label, like with what is happening with trans people right now. Labels can personally feel wonderful. I remember how freeing it felt to first be able to hear and use words that had described how I had been feeling for the first time, and how nice it was to form community around those words. I can’t imagine how it would feel to have your own “You’re a wizard, Harry” moment with some queer label-the appeal of spending years looking to build your own path towards this type of realization very powerful and very real-but it is one that has left so many people dissatisfied with themselves. All this to say: if you are just starting to figure your identity out, you shouldn’t have an emotional deep-dive and try to find what exactly you are. Labels are so ridiculously complicated. You need to live your life and find out what makes it the most enjoyable for you. If that does require an emotional deep-dive at some point along the path, then so be it, but don’t let it be centered around the choice between two sets of pronouns, or if you’re demisexual or gray-ace, try to focus on the big picture of what makes you happy. Overthinking has never helped someone come to a sound conclusion ever: your queer identity is not any different.

I personally believe that the only thing that matters to a person's identity is to go by the name they want, love who they want to love, and look how they want to look. No label can define a person, and no hater can tell you how to be yourself, because they are them, and you are you.

I'm bi and queer are the best words for me, I'll say I'm gay just because it's fun and to communicate that I like girls but I wouldn't define myself as gay We need to acknowledge that experience is individual, and while a label can connect similarities, it will never be all encompassing for you or anyone because it doesn't often account for the fluidity of emotions and identity

I dont care about labels either, when I was younger and I mean 11-12 young, I started going through the sexuality crisis. I realized I didnt only have weak knees for dudes and as I got older, I realized I had weak knees for transgenders too. It was sooo frustrating, society makes it seem like labels are so important for every single individual so I felt wrong not knowing what I can label myself. Of course, it doesnt matter what people think. I like what I like and that's it. I thought I was pansexual but it felt so wrong because there was so much more to what I liked rather than just sexual orientation and gender especially gender. I'm 16 now and I finally found my peace that I'm queer which is so ironic because Queer was always the LGBTQ term I never understood. I really had to be in the shoes to understand. I am so happy that I no longer have that empty space in myself; mentally running around and freaking out about my sexual preferences. Anyways, I love your videos! These real talks make me so happy and it genuinely helps me so much. I love your makeup looks, too! I never comment down on the videos but you truly are so gorgeous and I really hope everything goes well for you.❤✨️

You're amazing the way you are! I personally struggle with not labeling myself, and sometimes it causes me to label others when they don't want labels, and I always feel bad about it 😅 Also, you're still hot af lol

Omg I'm queer too and I have always struggled with finding the right words to explain it and I always get so annoyed when people say that it's just a slur or not a really identity so it's really great to finally have someone that I look up to also identify as queer ❤

I like your opinion on sexualities. It's the first time I've heard this. Because I always lived with the thought "I don't know who I like" and couldn't fit myself into any category. And didn't feel the need to fit in. But thought it was abnormal

this is so real, I also like queer for myself because at some point when you're pan, gender queer, and have a mixed gender expression, it's just easier to go with queer and let who you are speak the rest

As someone who feels different and "queer" but found a partner that makes me pass as straight i feel this. I know there's more to how i feel, now is it bi, pan, idk. I dont have to need or want to explore and im okay with that. I love my partner and our relationship and I'll forever take it over knowing exactly what i do and don't like
