I had a teacher in high school that once told me that child abuse is more common then you think. They told me that if it’s not happening in your house, it’s definitely happening on your street. My heart goes out to all the children that don’t have people that want to protect and love them. “Let’s make better choices people!”

I grew up in the outskirts of a well off neighborhood in the suburbs of Denver. A girl that I went to middle school with was subject to abuse. Later, when in high school, her dad killed everyone in her family except her and killed himself.

@resriefriggens4, your teacher was right, and straight up child neglect is even more prevalent! I am 58 and starting at the age of 21, I took in children whose parents just left them home alone to party or be with a new partner etc. The first young girl was 13 and her mom and her lived next door to me. I came home from work and she was sitting on my front step holding a letter from her mom that said she had moved to Las Vegas, here’s some money to tide you over ($200). I took her in to stay with me and put her through high school while I put myself through college. I just don’t get it, children are sacred and should be protected and cherished at all cost! They are our future!!!!

My great aunt was abused as a child in a similar way and also ended up having multiple personalities. It's truly wild and horrifying what childhood abuse can do to the brain
@kashbrown14
@kashbrown14 10 ай бұрын
The same thing happened to me. I ended up with D.I.D due to abuse and the way the psychologist explained it to me was that when someone goes through something so horrific that their brain cannot handle it, it dissociates and creates multiple personalities as a way for the brain to protect itself. I have always been so fascinated with the human brain and I am sure this is partly responsible.

The clinician who suggested Tracy was seeking retribution for her past traumas definitely seems spot on. I don't think it's a surprise that Edward -- a near-elderly man -- was the target of her rage given her history. You said it yourself: it looked like a crime of passion. And it was, just with Edward as stand in for the men/fathers who had taken advantage of her.

I've been summoned to speak, Tracey having some sort of multi personality disorder makes quite a bit of sense as when one goes through severe childhood trauma, the brain breaks into multiple parts depending on how many personalities or "alters" a person has. These alter develope to protect the host or owner of the body from going through those traumas again, once those alters aren't needed anymore they simply dissappear. Sometimes even the source of the abuse can become an alter hence the Avril personality. Thank you for coming to my TED talk (idek if that counts as a TED talk) - Somebody who has a multi personality disorder

Real question, is DID treatable if someone is actively in treatment or are some of the alters permanent? I know you said they can disappear or fade away, but is the condition DID a permanent condition? Can you possibly form new alters later?
@remsleep9331
@remsleep9331 Жыл бұрын
@@emily.toombs As DID forms because of intense and long-enduring trauma it is not something that will just go away, but I believe people are able to heal and cope through therapy and learn to manage having multiple identities. And for the last question, since DID is an unconscious coping mechanism, if someone with it is re-traumatized or goes through stressful events they may have new identities form. (I do not have DID - this is just from my own research)
@stellahenley6904
@stellahenley6904 Жыл бұрын
@Emily Toombs there is also the possibility of alters integrating with the help of a professional and low stress, a system may be able to go from 9 alters to 3 or less or even completely integrate into 1 person.

A couple things worth noting: - it's no longer called multiple personality disorder as it's not a personality disorder, it's a dissociative disorder and is called Disassociative Identity Disorder or DID for short. - people with DID *tend to be* traumatized and they are no more likely to harm you than anyone else. - the common term for the "different personalities" is called alters, *but just ask a persons preference as not everyone does*. There does tend to be ones that front more often but there's not really a "core", "original" or "main" one. - common alters are the protector, the parent, and kids often referred to as littles.. - for *THE* DID diagnosis it has to occur before you are around 8-10 years old as that's when your personality more solidifies but there is a subtype of DID, as everything exists on a spectrum, *where this does not have to be the case and most other factors for a diagnosis are met* - after you have developed DID, the total amount of alters can change at anytime - it's not uncommon to have nonhuman alters, especially for kids. Their brain latches onto what makes them feel safe. It would not be unreasonable to guess if Tracy had a vampire alter, as it would easily be something that her brain could've latched onto as something to feel safe. - I'm not a professional & don't have it, but I learned about it as part of addressing my own dissasociation struggles while learning about disassociation in general & listened to those with it so I could better understand and help others learn too. *I have edited to update for it to be more inclusive of DID experiences that are shared in the comments*

i have osdd-1a which is another dissociative disorder. like grace mellody said, trauma is not required for either of these diagnoses, its just a common factor in developing them. i have a lot of traumas, but i did not develop it bc of trauma. i had signs of osdd-1a before experiencing any of them (signs started showing when i was around 6, but i started experiencing traumas when i was around 8). i didnt even know i had osdd-1a until i was assessed by my therapist (diagnosed at 23 using the mid-218 assessment), but it explains all my memory gaps and heavy dissociative states, bc i experience a lot of amnesia, which not everyone experiences. also, not everyone uses the term alters. its personal preference, but i see most people using headmates as the term. best thing to do is ask what they prefer!

The question you asked about how alters - from DID - get their names: usually the alters themselves reveal their names to other people or within the system itself. Sometimes they are given a provisory name during the time when they're manifesting themselves but havent disclosed their name yet.

1: in Norway “life sentence” is 21 years. It’s not actually called life though, but that’s the longest sentence. 2: I also thought through the video that she was taking revenge on all the people and men that had abused her through that guy she killed

@@anniegathers Because this happen in Australia she can't explain/comment what a "life sentence" in Norway is? I go further. A " prison year" in Norway is 9 months so you usually get out after I4 years unless you get "confinement" which means in theory you can spend the rest of your life in prison. Anders Behring Breivik got 21 years of confinement and is not likely to ever get out. When his 21 years are up, they can renew his sentence and give him more (He killed 69 children and 7 adults on Utøya and bombed the government in Oslo)

I find it amazing people can't pronounce aussie town names correctly, especially ones you'd reckon are as famous as Brisbane. I'm from Ireland, I'm used to people mangling our town names. Then again, I ask if I'm unsure.

@@hikunkijoring5231 life sentences here in Australia are exactly that: for life. Some may have a non-parole period of 20 years though, but generally a life sentence is for the long haul.

Im an Aussie and your pronunciations of the States and towns is spot on. Way to go. But l can’t say I’ve ever heard this story. Interesting. Another story you could do is about the Beaumont Children. My Uncle who was a detective worked on this case. Another amazing story is about Chopper Read!
