Big John is absolutely right. You cannot give Khamzat a 10-9 in Round 1, and then turn around and give Usman a 10-9 in Round 2. Khamzat rode Usman all round 1, with Usman not doing any offense. You have to give Khamzat a 10-8 in round 1. Usman barley won Round 2, Khamzat dominated round 1

The truth is that they are both horrible at arguing, which to be fair is not even the point. But according to UFC rules judges have to judge each round on their own. So you can't say that if you are giving round 2 a 10-9 then you can't give round 1 a 10-9, because the rounds are not judged based on how other rounds went. Having said that, I personally agree round 1 should be a 10-8 regardless of the circumstances of the other rounds.

As a Volk fan,I did not expect him to be stopped early and for him it was devastating and a shock as he had plans of having champ champ status and then have a couple of more fights in featherweight and being at the top. I think hes playing bluff and wanted to sound alpha " I need to keep busy and keep fighting when I can", I think its more deeper and maybe hes depressed in keeping busy and to save face is easier to say what he said but underlying feelings is able to retire a champ with credits and not do this anymore. To be fair to Jose when he was talking about going to 155. This whole champ champ thing was not something common place. So they weren't allowing him to go up as champion to do it, they wanted him to vacate his 145 belt to do it. That's a HUGE difference in what volk was allowed to do. He was allowed to go up as the 145 champion, and if lost he returned to 145 still the champ no problem. So you can't really hold that against Jose choosing to not go up and just dropping his title he worked so hard for, and was building a legacy for.
@forwardmoving8252

Yeah that's the actual big balls play. Kind of like what Usyk did in boxing. He vacated before moving up. THAT shows confidence. Islam took a bigger risk than volk. Volk risked nothing.

Just because Chimaev didn't do as much damage to Usman as DDP did to Till in round 1, for example, it doesn't mean it's not a 10-8 round. Khamzat completely DOMINATED the entire round, that's a 10-8. Usman got out struck by 56 strikes, whether they were significant or not doesn't matter. The point is, Chimaev dominated the round, hence it's a 10-8. This is why we score rounds from 10 all the way down to (a possible) 6, since not every round win counts the same. Dolphins scoring 70 on Broncos is a 10-7, it's not the same as Dolphins beating Chargers 36-34, that's a 10-9 round, since it's close. If the round is not close, it's a 10-8, or potentially even worse

Khamzat and his team trained and game planned for a 3rd fight and got the job done. If he was so gassed after 7 minutes, and had a broken hand and usman(one of the better fighters ever) still couldnt do shit to him, shows how good khamzat is.

Josh didn't give enough credit for Khamzat because he forgot Kamaru Usman was the p4p best fighter in the world. Just image if there's a heavy weighter can dominate Jon Jones for a round like that, will you say he's not good enough because Jon was fighting in a lower weight class? Or Jon didn't have a full camp? We would be simply impressed if anyone can do it for one round even the p4p king comes back stronger in the later round.

@Josh and @John... i love your content and i ussually agree with you guys!! i really think that Volk never had a real chance against Islam... I really think that Islam (or team) underestimated going to Perth and the rules and also Volk is a real beast, real champ.. he little underestimated to fight a 5 round in the ring (so i don´t mean he underestimated Volk, but fighting round 5 with a beast like Volk).. Islam was the better man in both fights in my eyes.. But Volk is let down by his team.. Volk fought Islam in Perth under the best circumstances possible for him with the worst circumstances for Islam... Volk and his team really thought Volk fought the best and strongest possible Islam... the truth is proven yesterday.. His team fired Volk up even more and seeked excuses and accusation after first fight... i think his team should have analysed the the first fight way beter!! and talk more sense to him... Volk really tought he could beat Islam without a full camp because he was the only one that could level up!! Khabib congratulated Islam and said it was too close and he even came to Abu Dhabi to train the shit out of Islam!! Even Islam won the first fight!!! I really hope that Volk or his team realizes this.... because he is right now on the highway to fuck himself up... But boys despite Jon Jones resume Islam is PvP with distance now, I mean submitting Oliviera en Ko Volk... 2 Champs with dazzlings records who else defeated PvP nr1, PvP nr 2 and PvP nr 3?? But @Josh Khamzat did broke/hurt his right hand in round 1?

Is it one hand down or two hands down that determine a downed fighter in the Elliot vs Mokaev fight? Because Herzog kept saying he was down when there was only one hand. Just a couple months ago Shevchenko got kneed in the head several times by Grasso because she only had one hand down and not two. I understand rules change depending where the fights take place, but something like a downed opponent should be clearly defined before each card to both the audience and fighters.

If you watch the UFC 294 prelims live on youtube and put the playback speed -0.25........ 3:37:43 you can see the first knee mokaev had one hand palm down before he starts his knee attack and it only raises from the force of the knee. 3:37:44 the second knee he had two hands down on fingers and thumbs. the third in rd3 3:48:39 Elliot started the knee. then mokaev got his palm to the floor only to lift it again to protect the hit then to put it back down. So the 2 in RD1 where illegal but the 3rd in RD3 wasnt as Elliot had already started the knee. but as a ref that if hes just done 2 knee strikes to a down opponent before and the angle where the ref was Elliots Left leg was in the way of seeing that he had already started the knee strike with his right knee. from his view he just sees a knee hit mokaev head while his hand was down so i can understand i can understand the mistake

It's never been a dumb argument and it's not a so much for that argument moment but clearly Islam has improved on other aspects of his game and improved as an overall fighter. The stigma of dagestani fighters as only wrestlers is still there. Hopefully though they will prove that stigma as no longer applicable as a whole soon. Just because a few people don't live up to a stereotype does not mean the stereotype doesn't have a valid reason it was formed.

Volk took this fight at short notice because he knew it would be his one and only shot at the rematch. It was obvious had no intention of fighting him again. Islam's plan was to defend his belt again against Charlie Olives and maybe Gaethje and then fight for the Welterweight title to become champ champ and then retire. Volk knew this so he took the fight against all odds cuz it was his only window of opportunity. It wasn't for the money at all. Volk is driven by achieving levels of greatness.
