I have no idea why I love watching people make stays when I have no intention of ever making my own, but I really enjoyed this.

Thank you! There are so many videos on how to make stays, but rarely is there ever a mock up or fitting process. Which, in my opinion, is the key to making a well fitting and supporting garment and can be the hardest to figure out when you are just a beginner. Amazing video!

Thank you! I hope this is filling a gap. I agree that mock-ups are not getting their fair share of attention, if you really want to ensure success with building stays that do everything that they did in the period as a functional support garment.

Brilliant, not least seeing how to correct at the end. Well presented, to the point. Vibeke

Incredibly thorough video - I was like here I go again, why am I watching ANOTHER stays video? But it was so worth it with all the detail you included about your process and thought. Thank you so much!

Glad you found it useful! Yep, I agree - so many videos already out there but not very many show the actual process, especially by reference to historical techniques. There's always room for another voice to share their experience. :)

I'm really enjoying this style of video. It's both soothing and informative, and I think your choice of music worked well. I'll happily watch anything else you put out : )

Oh, wow, thank you! Using slow tempo music against timelapse footage was a gamble - I thought matching the rhythm of my voice might make the whole thing calmer? And then when I was on the 'home stretch' towards finishing, with little voiceover, I couldn't help but want faster, more exciting music! I'm glad it worked for you!

@@TimesmithDressHistory Yeah, I really did feel the calmness at the begining, and then more energy as the finale approached. I've really been enjoying your videos, keep up the good work!

They are! Yep, stays are so structured, that you really can't tell if the pattern is going to do its job unless your mock-up is equally structured. Yep, it's time consuming! But entirely worth it.

This is very detailed and helpful!! I just got the Patterns of Fashion 5 book and am contemplating making stays from it, so it’s great to see someone doing the same thing! Also, your mockup looks absolutely gorgeous 🥰

The music was a bit loud compared to your voice but I've watched these two like 3 times now as I'm trying to draw the same pattern so it is really good, helpful video :)
