I like that you show the measurements that you use. Thanks for sharing.

It would be helpful if you explained what you are doing in the set up for cutting 2x4. Not all of us can afford a setup such as yours. Thanks for sharing

Hi, James. Thanks for replying and for the input. Which part of the set up would you like more explanation on? I would be happy to make a video dedicated to the topic. As for being able to afford the setup, I bought the mill cheap from a guy who had project burnout. He got tired of building it, so I completed. Many hours, not many dollars.

@@ByTheGraceOfGod316 Hi How do you determine how to get to the best part of the log. I understand squaring up the log, but what measurement do you use to cut the 2x4s. Do you cut the4 inch side first and then the 2 inch. Thanks Jim

Hi. You must be psychic. I have been working on a video with that very topic, but I have to learn how to use the graphics program to draw some diagrams. It's a steep learning curve for a Luddite like me. The short answer is that I cut the larger cant dimension first. If I over shoot, or if the log releases some tension, I can then cut it to the smaller dimension and try again on the third & fourth sides. That doesn't mean I cut the 4" portions first. The larger cant dimension depends on how many 2" vs 4" slabs the math says I can get out of the log, but that is why its an entire video with diagrams. I will let you know when I publish the video.

What do you have for added weight on your tractor 1000 pound concrete block
@ByTheGraceOfGod31610 ай бұрын
Hi, @brianbloom1799. You are close. The pivot point for the load is the front tires. You can see the rear tires lift off the ground in a couple of the videos. Because of that, the entire tractor, loader frame, hydraulic unit, and any ballast are the "counter weight". The tractor alone weighs nearly 700 pounds. Anyway, thanks for watching and for leaving aa comment. May 2024 be your best year so far!

what brand is your mill? or is it home made?
@ByTheGraceOfGod316 Жыл бұрын
Hi, Drobidoux69. It's a homemade sawmill. Thanks for commenting & for watching! Have an absolutely glorious week!

I do not follow why you measure the log for the low point before leveling the pith out. I would think you would level the pith first then find the low point for the 1st cut. I've also found that by taking larger off cuts on the 1st cut on a side I can use that wood for firewood and not have any waste.
@ByTheGraceOfGod316 Жыл бұрын
Hi, Andy. Thank you for stopping by, and for commenting. If I remember correctly, I didn't level the pith so much as compensate for a taper the measurements revealed. If the log diameter had been consistent for 90% of the log with the taper in the last foot, I would not have compensated. If the log was banana shaped, I would have maybe rolled the log to a different position. If there was a narrow spot in the middle that was less than the small end diameter, I would need to account for that if/when I raised one end. I need boards more than firewood, so I make two thinner cuts: one to get a 3 1/2" open face and then one 3/4" to 1" lower to get a usable board. Hope that answers your questions.

Sawing with sandy showed him installing a laser to see his cut on a log ya might investigate that ?😅

Hi, Dude. Been awhile since I said that phrase. Thanks for the feedback. It is greatly appreciated. I have thought about adding a laser. Seems like a good idea. I just have a couple(?) of projects ahead of it, like getting the driven pulley replaced, so I can trim that axle and not get tangled up in it. The other issue I have with a laser is that I live in a flight path for airplanes. Pilots have a real issue with lasers. I would have to be really careful with where it reflects.
