In this series of videos Kyle will be making a 15 inch bowie. This knife is being made for an online course we are offering for sale soon. This course will have several hours of in depth tips and techniques on knife making and how to build a 15 inch bowie. We wanted to take you along the ride with us and keep you up to date on this knife. So we made a special video just for you guys here on KZbin! :)
I am especially excited about this video, it's one of my favorite videos my brother/editor (Josh) has made. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. :)
This video was kind of like a sneak peak of the bowie we are making for the online course. The KZbin version of the "course knife" was 15 minutes long, the actual online course (up to this point) is going to be about 3 to 4 hours of in-depth teachings of what Kyle is doing. We are still videoing it, so there will probably be about 3 parts for the whole KZbin "course knife" series at 10 to 15 minutes per video. I estimate that the over all course will be 6 to 15 hours long. Again, we are still videoing the "course knife", and it takes quite some time to explain things just right so knowing how long the actual online course is going to be can be difficult.
I am a full-time Mastersmith knifemaker, and I love my job! I specialize in forged fixed blade knives and also make many other types of edged art.
In March of 2007, I went to the W.F. Moran School of Bladesmithing in Old Washington, Arkansas where I took a two week class on Intro to Bladesmithing under ABS Mastersmiths Burt Gaston and Greg Neely. This is where I learned how to make a blade that would pass the ABS Journeyman Smith Performance Test, after that I took a class on Handles and Guards under ABS Mastersmith Jim Walker where I learned how to make handles out of stag, exotic woods and many other materials.
In June, 2011 I received my Mastersmith Stamp at the Atlanta BLADE Show. Now that I have been granted my MS certification I have a desire to expand my field and continue learning and teaching what I learn, God has given me all the opportunities and teachers that I’ve had and I thank Him for giving me the ability to do something I love.
Follow me on this epic edged art journey!
Thanks for watching
Enjoy!

Wow your creations blow me away every time Mr. Royer. They arent just blades they're more like concentrations of effort put out into the universe. One day I have a feeling these ate going to be genuine treasures in a museum or something. (Also thank you for being a huge inspiration into my own smithing! You're truly one of my hero's! I'd kill to apprentice under you!)

I just realized the most important aspect of your work vs. other knife makers work as I was watching this video... Its your integrity! Attention to detail is one thing, I pay close attention to detail in my trade and what I do. Great knife makers pay close attention to detail, but you go much farther in your craft- you have integrity and honor! Nothing is finished until it is as perfect as humanly possible. That little speck of imperfection in the handle may never have been seen be the new owner but you made sure it was repaired. I would never in a million years caused harm to the knife but you repaired it. That is a man of Integrity and Honor. That puts you in a class above all others. Goodonya young lad Goodonya! I aim for your integrity and honor in my business and ministry. There are very few in your category.

Hey Kyle... I’ve been making knives on and off since I was 14... I’m 50 now. I’ve learnt more watching you than I have in the last 30 years. You’re a the knife maker’s, knife maker! I think this is evidenced with seeing your tools, techniques and styles being copied by more successful “youtubers”, I place that word in, inverted commas because some ‘knife makers’ and smiths are more about KZbin than they are about the smithing...I’m so pleased to see you making a real go of it mate, best of luck and keep up the fine work....

You sir are a master..👍👍 I wish I had half of the tools you have. I use cheap Harbor Freight tools. My forge I found in the dump.(I guess the original owner moved on) It is made up of a 6" main pipe with a bent 3" pipe welded to it so a hair dryer will fit in the other end to force air up..On top It has a brake drum welded to the top of the six inch pipe and a old saw blade welded in the center..I take it outside and push in down into the ground. I use charcoal. I use cheap steel from Lowes or Home Depot for blades and guards and cabinet knobs for pommels. Oak dowels for handle scales or what ever I find or have laying around... Can't get much on a police disability so I work what I can afford or find... Keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos.

Hey Wolf You got it going on 👍🏻🔥☕️ Go with what you got 🔥 Try to scrounge up some old leaf or coil springs. The carbon content in the spring steel will get you a superior blade compared to mild low carbon steel You Keep Forging On Wolf Be safe and be careful May God bless you . Dad

Kyle, you should do a collaboration with Alec Steele. He could bring you a lot of views to your site....and you could show him some of your skills! You are the best I've seen! Beautiful piece.

Absolutely gorgeous Bowie, Kyle! I particularly like how you accented the spine & swedge. And the color of that redwood burl is incredible. Your comparison to Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' is totally accurate. If I owned this beautiful blade, I think I would name it 'Starry Knight', or the 'Dark Knight'.

@@KyleRoyerKnives thanks for the response! I hate to be a bother, but how much would you charge for a relatively simple (compared to your work) langes messer with a swept hilt/complex guard?
