In this series of videos Kyle will be making a 15 inch bowie. This knife is being made for an online course we are offering for sale soon. This course will have several hours of in depth tips and techniques on knife making and how to build a 15 inch bowie. We wanted to take you along the ride with us and keep you up to date on this knife. So we made a special video just for you guys here on KZbin! :)
I am especially excited about this video, it's one of my favorite videos my brother/editor (Josh) has made. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. :)
This video was kind of like a sneak peak of the bowie we are making for the online course. The KZbin version of the "course knife" was 15 minutes long, the actual online course (up to this point) is going to be about 3 to 4 hours of in-depth teachings of what Kyle is doing. We are still videoing it, so there will probably be about 3 parts for the whole KZbin "course knife" series at 10 to 15 minutes per video. I estimate that the over all course will be 6 to 15 hours long. Again, we are still videoing the "course knife", and it takes quite some time to explain things just right so knowing how long the actual online course is going to be can be difficult.
I am a full-time Mastersmith knifemaker, and I love my job! I specialize in forged fixed blade knives and also make many other types of edged art.
In March of 2007, I went to the W.F. Moran School of Bladesmithing in Old Washington, Arkansas where I took a two week class on Intro to Bladesmithing under ABS Mastersmiths Burt Gaston and Greg Neely. This is where I learned how to make a blade that would pass the ABS Journeyman Smith Performance Test, after that I took a class on Handles and Guards under ABS Mastersmith Jim Walker where I learned how to make handles out of stag, exotic woods and many other materials.
In June, 2011 I received my Mastersmith Stamp at the Atlanta BLADE Show. Now that I have been granted my MS certification I have a desire to expand my field and continue learning and teaching what I learn, God has given me all the opportunities and teachers that I’ve had and I thank Him for giving me the ability to do something I love.
Follow me on this epic edged art journey!
Thanks for watching
Enjoy!

KyleRoyerKnives I started watching you a month or so ago. I've been enjoying forging since seeing Forged in Fire years ago & now I've been all over the web watching everything thing I can. I feel your craftsmanship is unrivaled. I'm an artist & musician & have started moving towards content creation. I love the fact that you're doing classes. I have good laymen understanding of forging but just watching this one I love how you have decided to show your craft from a beginners level. This video right here finally inspired me to give it a try. I'd love to chat some time with you. You're a brilliant dude but truly a master in an age where things are rarely mastered anymore. Thanks brother Alec J Maslowski

Kyle has a manner which is difficult not to feel at ease with. His humility and pragmatism, the level of importance placed on detail - it makes everything about these complex processes come across easily and clearly. It's a shame channels like yours aren't at the pinnacle of *the mighty algorithm* because despite the niche content, I think a lot of people would appreciate this.

I bought the video set and It may seem expensive, but I'm just going through the videos before attempting to make this beautiful knife. OMG there are so many detailed things that you do that blow my mind away. I'm almost scare to do this knife because I may have to do it 3-4 times to get the knife even close to what you do. I'm so glade I paid the money for these vids. The fact that you are using tools we should have not tools you wish you had is great. I can see people now. You don't have to do that and you don't need to go that far. and your right but you will never make a knife of this quality ever. And that is why I bought the videos. Just reviewing I'm on #14 and that took me most of the weekend. very detailed and he even shows how to get out of mistakes because he doesn't eliminate the ones he made, he shows you how to fix them. Thank you Kyle and Josh for making these videos.

This is my favorite video I've seen from you. A lot of the work you do in your videos is way beyond a level that I can relate to, but this one is pulled back to a relatable level, for me anyway. And it just so happens that a Bowie is my favorite knife ever and something i really want to make. I forged one out of a bearing race and it so rough....pretty pitiful really...that i almost threw it away. But i decided to keep moving forward with it so I can maybe understand better what to try to do different next time. First knife I've ever forged, btw. Thank you for this timely video. I can't wait for the continuation.

I'm one of these hobbyist with very few expensive electric tools so I love this kind of video. I like you other content too but I cannot relate as much as I do watching this video. Also, I was wondering why you didn't forge the choil area instead of grinding it.

Dude you are an amazing blade maker. It's like watching Picasso paint. Everything is fully visible as to what you are saying about a specific thing that you are working on. Wish I could afford one of your blades but, it would take me 20yrs to save enough money to purchase one. Then of course life happens and the money would be gone. Do you take requests of blades your subscribers would like to see you do? If so, I would like to see you make the Sword of Omens made out of damascus from Thundercats but, not the full sword. I would like to see it in it's short sword form like the size of a Spartan sword with a leather sheath of course. Everyone does the full sword version but I've never seen anyone do the short sword version. Just a thought. I think you could make it look amazing.

Hey guys, awesome vid! Really like the relaxed style. Your explanations where great and I like the low tech method - seen as I'm on the other side of the planet and it's a bit of drive to attend your course.... its nice to see how you go about getting those details... Keep up that perfectionism - its inspiring!! Maybe its time for a knew anacronym.... O.C.D? Occupational Courage and Determination Observing Critical Dimensions ....? Oh Come on Damn it! :-]] Thanks agian guys....
