I had given my nephew four AirTags for Christmas. I was looking at keychain fobs for his upcoming birthday and came down with a serious case of “I could make this if I had a bit more time.” I’m more of a maker general practitioner than dedicated leather crafter but I have done a few knife sheaths and have the tools and materials in my shop. Thanks to your pattern, the hardest part of the project - or at least my biggest sticking point - plus a quick stop at our local Tandy Leather for the hardware, I do have the the time. All pieces cut, punched and glued. Test fit with my own AirTag was a success. Dye now applied. Once the dye is dry all that remains is to burnish the edges and do the stitching. All easily accomplished tonight. (Leaving me 24 hours to spare.) I bought a bag of the button studs so I’ll probably do another for myself with bronze snap hook instead of the split ring. It will useful to clip to a bag, a set of keys, or to my elderly mom when I take her to the store. (She’s always trying to lose me!) Anyhow thanks again. You’ve earned my subscription.

Hi Jeff, sorry I missed your message! Man, wow, loved every minute of this. Genuinely makes me smile knowing how much your nephew would have appreciated the work you put in (and that you won't be losing your mom again any time soon 😅) Hope you had a good new year, so happy to have you on the team! 😊

What is that wooden cutting device you use to cut the straps?
@JamesKGraves2 жыл бұрын
It's a leather strap cutter 😊 I got mine on Etsy, but you should be able to purchase them from Amazon or any leather tool suppliers!

Thank you for this! What kind of burnishing compound did you use?
@JamesKGraves3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! For this particular project, I started with pretty clean edges so I just applied the edge paint and burnished with that! More often than not, though, I'll first burnish with Tokenole, then wipe it off and go over with the edge paint before final burnish 😊

Hi. Love your channel. Tutorials are great. Maybe one that could be interesting would be where to get good leather to work on at good prices. And also what is the minimum tool kit to get started and where to get them at good prices. I am a follower from Barcelona, Spain. Thank you. Umberto

Thank you, Umberto! Those are great ideas, and things I struggled with myself at first! I'll be sure to get on it ☺️ appreciate you being here!

Do you burnish with just the dye on while it’s wet and bypass tokenole/gum trag?

This was beautiful to watch ! I don’t have tools to make leather products . Your unit is exceptional well done 👍👍👍 Thanks for the pattern …I may try to make a copy cat out of vinyl . I have just started sewing vinyl . Before a week ago I had no idea what is AirTag ….LOL. My son bought 4 because he back to traveling after 3 years of Covid restrictions and being careful. I want to make a AirTag pouch for his pooch ….. they won’t be renewing the GPS tracker service in summer….they will use AirTag instead. I am to buy my 4 AirTags before I travel so it’s going to be making AirTags for every member of my family , two per person . Thanks for posting a very very good tutorial 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi there, which part don't you think is symmetrical please?
@Beaversham3 жыл бұрын
@@JamesKGraves I tried to cut by hand and make a pattern on a milling machine. In both cases, it was seen that there is a slight asymmetry

@@Beaversham Hi again, I've checked the part files in SolidWorks and I'm afraid there's no evidence of any asymmetries. Which part specifically are you having trouble with?
