Nice touch making the centre to aid set up, used my home made one first time today, made everything barvthe boring head. Got carried away with thrust and linear bearings.the set up is gold on yours.

The level of skill and knowledge you have in metalworking never ceases to amaze. Great job on this video and the ball.

we are always amazed at the things that you are able to make. I think you should build a custom lathe from scratch! It would be so cool and I know you could make each and every part!!
@HighCaliberCraftsman3 жыл бұрын
Holy cow that would be a project 😂

Very cool, in never ceases to amaze me what you can make on a metal lathe.

We had a ball or radius tool that would turn a radius on your part that you were making, The problem was it had a lot of chatter when you used it. You had to make baby Cuts to finish out your ball. I think thats a good Idea. I would of never thought of using a boreing head that way on a lathe.

I'd recommend getting a smaller tap wrench for taps that small. They have shorter arms so you can't really put as much torque on the tap.

I have plans to make one, one of these days!

get that sound in snyc my man. but excellent use of a boring head well done

Would it be a good idea to drill a third hole in the boring head to accept the cutting tool? That way you can see and use the adjustment screw without stopping the operation..😉

Being careful with a large tap wrench with small taps is the reason they make small tap wrenches 😜

If your so scared to tap with that t handle make a dedicated small thumbscrew handle. Not sure of a turner that that lacks rigidity. There are other basic designs that would provide significantly better performance

Holy shit that R8 arbor just unscrews? That can't be safe for mill work, which was it's intended use.

Pretty sure this is how the majority of them are made but not positive.

Why didnt you just mount that M3 tap in the tailstock chuck if you were worried about torquing it off with the tap wrench

Why is it every ball turner I see makes eggs and not a true round ball?
@HighCaliberCraftsman3 жыл бұрын
True round is tough because there is only one perfectly true and an infinite number of not rounds. Ill have to put a mic on the aluminum one I turned to see how close I got!
@jagboy693 жыл бұрын
@@HighCaliberCraftsman I dont need a 100% ball, but it just cant look like an egg. Maybe with some practice you'll get closer.

First, throw away the cheap Chinese trash so-called "boring bars." Secondly, what have you achieved by cutting a sort of a ball shape with a boring head? There are numerous videos on KZbin which shows exactly the same process. Show something which can be used to cut internal and external radii, and please, using steel, stainless steel etc., and not aluminium or brass which is soft.
