Did anyone figure out how you add 2nd tube? Do you just keep cutting strips and following the pattern until you get through both tubes? 1-32 and keep going with another 1-32?

I watched the video and read the pattern and updated version. My confusion is what to do with the second strip tube which is mentioned at the end of instruction 6. 6. Fold strip set in half, right sides facing, aligning the long edges, and making sure that the strip set is now skewed. Sew this final seam to turn the strip set into a tube. Press seam toward strip #12. Turn the tube right side out. Repeat with the other strip set. 7. Lay one tube along a horizontal line on your cutting mat. Starting at the trimmed end, cut the tube into rings of various widths, following the table below, cutting Rings #1 through 32, and labeling each ring as you cut it. The first strip tube isn't enough to make the 32 varying width cuts. Do I start with the 2nd strip tube and continue cutting another 32 - or however many cuts it will allow?

I just downloaded the pattern but I would like to make it into a queen size. This may sound stupid to very experienced people, but would I just need to cut the original strips longer and make more of them?
@ankimo195711 жыл бұрын
I have made a Bargello before. You cut from selvage to selvage. Most fabric is only 44" wide. Have you thought of putting a larger border on it? Of course, you could sew strips together until you had double the length, but with all those strips, you don't really want too many extra seams in the way. Hope this helps.
@Saucyakld9 жыл бұрын
+edhunley I sew the smaller strips first and then I make sure the next open bit is what is the next in sequence and keep going, made a queen size quilt that way and looks amazing!

How do you press the final quilt. Do you press all the columns in one direction, alternate directions, or press towards the center or outside.
@mjclark7948 жыл бұрын
In the video, she says that she presses the seams toward the even numbered strips. That would mean that every other seam is pressed the opposite direction.
@JunkJournalsToHoldYourMemories7 жыл бұрын
What length of fabric do you use to cut the strips? I mean...do you take 1 yard of each of the fabrics and cut strips out of that yard.. if you need more you take another 1 yard of each fabric?
@patticarey18017 жыл бұрын
The strips are cut crosswise or width-of-fabric, so they will be approximately 42" long (the width of your fabric). Bargello quilts tend to use smaller amounts of many different fabrics - the Serenity Bargello uses only 1/3yd of 12 different fabrics. If you use fewer fabrics, you will require more of each.
@JunkJournalsToHoldYourMemories7 жыл бұрын
So basically, take 1/2 yard of 42" wide fabric for each color?
@patticarey18017 жыл бұрын
What size quilt are you planning on making, and how many fabrics are you planning on using?
@JunkJournalsToHoldYourMemories7 жыл бұрын
I have 10 fabrics and making a queen size quilt
@patticarey18017 жыл бұрын
You will need 8-10 2 1/2" strips of each fabric, so 3/4yd or so of each fabric for the bargello portion of the quilt.
@doyoder277610 жыл бұрын
I printed the directions and have watched the video over and over. I'm confused. First, the dimensions given (if added up) are more than any normal 40 or 42" width of fabric?, and directions are not clear as what to do with the second set. Feeling frustrated because it is a lovely quilt and I have some lovely Northcott fabrics ready to cut.
@patticarey180110 жыл бұрын
Hi D, You will use the first tube, made with 2 of the strip sets, to cut as many of the 32 rings as possible. Then use the 2nd tube, made with the remaining 2 strip sets and identical to the first tube, to cut the balance of the rings. You will have a chunk of the 2nd tube leftover.

I watched this video a couple of times and each time I find out more as I am just about done making one so far has costs me 300 dollars. Still have to sew on borders and then put in batting and then the third nfabric , the backing. and I learned more from you than myinstructor ,as what really happens is once you spend your money to them they are irratated if you ask for help or questions . It will cost me almost 400 dollars in the end.

Why wouldn't you just do the pressing the easy way with an iron?
@patticarey18017 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda. I find that if I just press with an iron that my strip sets tend to have wavy seams. If I "finger-press" them first with a wooden iron, Clover Hera Marker (my favorite tool) or point presser, I can achieve a straighter seam and straighter strip set. I find that I only need to press with an iron once all 12 of my strips are added, and I can simply press along the seam instead of pressing against the seam because the seams are already flat. I hope to post a short pressing video on Northcott's KZbin channel shortly.
