You can apply some of the automotive sound deadening material inside the belt guard housing. They usually have glue on the otherside. Kind of like a big sticker. That takes away the metallic sound when starting the machine and propably takes couple of dB of the general noise as well

Electrical power is out due to last nights high winds here in Kentucky. Can’t do the projects I wanted to do today, but we do have a small generator to charge iPad and iPhone, plus keep refrigerators from thawing. Glad to see Matt’s post and I’m going to marathon his old videos until the power gets restored. Thanks for saving the day Matt! (Maybe the weekend.)👍👍

Great job Matt! Next time you need to bend a strap try pre-shaping the bend around something cylindrical, like a gas bottle, or a log, you might find that easier. Excellent video, thank you for sharing.

It's good to see the new welding table get used right away. The final result looks good and I'm sure it will work fine forever. I've heard you can reduce warping by welding small sections and alternating between different locations on the piece. Also, while not a big deal in this application, those slits are significantly smaller than the openings in the louvers.

Nice work on building the new guard. You had a shot with the garage door open that had a pretty look of the snow coming down behind you. Nice touch. I wonder why you didn't go ahead and do the wielding on the inside of the guard you built like you started out when tacking them together?

Nice job on cutting the radiuses & completing the belt guard. The dark segments were really cool to watch so please include more of them in future project videos. That metal cutting saw really takes the “W” right out of work doesn’t it? I used to have a 125 amp (110 v) welder, but when I had to get a pacemaker to keep the ole heart pumping correctly I had to sell the welder and gas powered hand tools. I really liked doing small welding jobs whenever needed, but I like staying alive more so the welder is gone.

I have the same planer with a different paint job. I swapped the pulleys in mine out because the 3 Z belts it comes melt off the pulleys and are hard to find, and expensive. I swapped it for AB combo double pulleys with removable centers. The original guard fit on, I just had to make stand-offs for the stud bolts.

With your fancy new welding table, I don't think you have learned all of its potential yet. You can/could drop some dog pins through the holes to have a backup to push against to hold the plate in place as you push to bend and tack the rim around the periphery.

Nice job with this thought I found myself asking... 1) Why isn't he using the possibilities of his new fixture table to hold that sucker in place while he welds it up? and 2) Shouldn't he put some rubber washers between the cover and the planer frame to help reduce noise from vibration? Still, nothing but compliments on how this turned out!

Although metal working appears to be more utilitarian for you, do you find it relaxing and enjoyable? I can see the passion in your eyes when you are doing your fine woodworking, so it's obvious that there is a high level of passion there. You have a great personality, and you do a great job filming your projects, but I was really wondering how much you enjoy metal working compared to woodworking? If Woodworking is a 10 out of 10, what rank do you put on metalworking? Another excellent, entertaining and informative video. Really enjoyed it.
