Today on episode 12587, Matt is testing the new 400 foot extension on the sawmill, to see if it's long enough to slab that giant 350 foot tall redwood that he removed from the Grand Canyon where it was dropped by a category F-5 tornado in a previous episode. That allowed him to try out his improved 36 wheeled crane/mega trailer. He also demonstrates his Guiness Book world record 250 foot water bucket toss that shows the amazing crotch figure in the tree where a UFO crashed into several limbs in the early 1950's leaving behind some radiation mutated Spalting. Most of the slabs will be destined to become several of his new 50 foot long work bench kits, that somehow always seem to end up with Japanese master woodworkers. A few will end up as live edge corporate boardroom tables for the new world order headquarters in Bonn. In other words, just a normal everyday M. C. show.

Your sawing videos are soothing and worth watching multiple times. When you were building the sawmill, I wondered why you did not include a motor to move the saw head. Then I realized that the sound and feel let you monitor what was going on. This video showed the rocking and the extreme sound changes during the cut. Excellent!

@@mcremona I don't know if you saw it a few months ago but get about 4 10ft sections of pvc pipe, some "T" connections at one end and a couple of caps at the other end and mount them under your log table for the mill and attach a automotive fuel pump to a spray system that will keep your blade lubricated and have a second line to an air spray gun like you would use with an air compressor and you could use the same water supply to spray the log for grain instead of throwing buckets. We used to mount electric fuel pumps in antifreeze jugs when I worked on cars and powered them with those $20 emergency light batteries and an air spray gun would shoot about 50ft, talk about some awesome squirt gun battles. That was before they invented super-soaker guns for kids.

I must tell you, Matt: I had no idea how addictive your slab milling videos are! I’m fascinated and can’t watch them fast enough! I helped a homesteader friend mill up a relatively small white oak, and I got to keep a log’s worth of slabs, which are still drying in my workshop. Can’t wait build with that oak, but even more so I can’t wait to go back out and mill some more!

Most of the time, I'm not a big fan of Maple. This log has shown me some real beauty. It will test your knowledge as far as the planer. A helical head would be necessary to try to avoid chip out. But what a fine looking piece you could make with this material! A lot of work, but well worth it! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

That extra extension is a game changer. As an observer it’s amazing the size of wood you can get. I am an amateur so I know what it takes to get wood over 5 1/4 thickness.

yeah it’ll never work. If you were watering a lawn or a flower bed I would understand if you used a garden hose or something like that. But there’s no such thing as a slab watering hose. Another thing; using a hose will forfeit any splishy splashy score……

I just can't ever get enough of woodgrain exposed after each cut. And the loss of friction was a little disturbing but it was also surprisingly amusing, since no one was hurt. Slab five had some beautiful grain and seemed to be transmitted from the smaller limb side above perhaps from wind twist. I'd love to see slab 6 with the ray Fleck after it's all planed and sanded with a clear finish. Nice, love your videos👍

Hey Matt Have you though of putting the saw under the lean too of the new building and maybe a Gantry Crane that run above and past the saw-mill, that would make the flipping of the slabs a thousand time easier , and in turn save you back from trying to turn them. that would save you alot of pain down the road.

Matt, you need to add a small winch (with the synthetic rope) on the front of your lift, then when it's too heavy to push over by hand you can use the winch to just pull it over for you.

I always call for the water boy, nail bringer, ladder mover and they seem to just disappear when you need em 😂
