Get Me Off Grid

3 жыл бұрын

Continuing to build the off grid biogas digester by constructing an insulated house for it. I go for a little adventure to collect manure from the beautiful New Forest to seed my starter digestate.
In this video I build a basic frame with:
4x 150cm x 5cm x 5cm treated timber
25x 62cm x 10cm feather edged board (off cuts from other jobs)
20x 72cm x 15cm feather edged board (off cuts from other jobs)
1x 100cm x 100cm plywood board
120cm x 120cm Roofing felt
1x shipping pallet
It is nearly ready to get filled and start producing gas!

Lovely to see that you go hunt for poo yourself. Like this is going to be next generations gold. By the way, I'm building one of these in the farm I'm in here in northern Italy, will keep you updated. Times are coming we change the habits we 've had for few generations now.

Yes. I really hope it can help with energy insecurities. The only issue is here in the UK its difficult to get it to work with the temperature changes.

Great build! You can put a valve at the bottom of your barrel to remove or flush sediments out from time to time

Great minds think alike. My next iteration will include a valve at the bottom. Cheers

You could consider carrying some rainwater in the bucket to suspend the bacteria in. Oxygen kills them off really quick.

Ha, these cows seem to have a more mild temperament than the ones in Costa Rica huh? Absolutely fascinating that a poop slushie will eventually create gas that can actually power stuff, but pretty gross at the same time 😂

They are chill in the extreme. You can walk right up to them and they don't bat an eye! It only gets more gross when all the food and poop gets mixed together, that's to come!

Great work, learning amazing stuff from your videos. What quantity of gas can be generated from this bio digester?
@GetMeOffGrid_
@GetMeOffGrid_ 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure to be honest. I haven't really got it going to its full potential, mostly because I have been busy with other things. If you were doing this to supply a household I would definitely use a 1000ltr IBC

Hey once you have it up and running wanna try to run a generator off the gas and see what you could power with it?
@GetMeOffGrid_
@GetMeOffGrid_ 3 жыл бұрын
For sure! It is something I want to do. Especially as I am having to heat the digester I would like to see if the energy I get out in the form of electricity is more than I have put in. Maybe there will be a ambient temperature when it is not worth doing etc. Catch for that is I have to buy a generator. It will come at some point!

Between which joints? The PVC joints or the gas lines out? Any PVC glue should work as long as you give it enough time to go off. Just make sure it is PVC glue not anything else. If it is PVC glue and it is still not working when you have given it 24hrs to cure then maybe you are not using enough. I hope that helps

@@GetMeOffGrid_ coffee grounds...cow dung/rotten vegetables. So hypothetically what is the optimal production you have received. Reason why I ask...Is I want to build a digester but need a guideline as to its size.
