So later period Regency featured a very wide, open neckline and teeny puff sleeves, and the way many of the shifts worked was a drawstring that could be let way out, allowing you to tuck the chemise over the top of your stays but below the neckline of the gown, and no sleeves. The kind of chemise you made was suitable for a dress in the early Regency period or a Rococo gown, but it just wasn’t suited to the gown you made! The gown is lovely, tho! 😁

Lovely dress! Earlier this year I made my own Bridgerton dress and instead of making and wearing a "proper" shift I just wore a modern slip I already had underneath and it worked like a charm

You should come to a Jane Austen Society of North America AGM...it's half convention half academic conference. Loads of people dress up in regency attire. Your sewing is wonderful and your channel is very useful for cosplay/historical dress making.

The dress is gorgeous! I love the lace applique along the bodice, sleeves and waistline. This video was also a little bittersweet for me since it was the first one of your I had watched since the death of my own black cat, Niki, back in late October of 2021 ( I haven't been watching much KZbin lately). Seeing Baby Bat was both heartwarming and sad at the same time; reminding me of my own times with Niki in the sewing room. Thank you. --Lyssa WA, USA

Ok, I hate watch Bridgerton and I'm not a huge fan of their costumes in season 2 but YOUR costume is so so lovely!!!! I love way the outer layer floats behind you and the judicious placement of the lace and bead appliques. Bravo!!!! I keep thinking about the undergarment issue and I'm wondering if perhaps a SUPER fineweight cotton voile or batiste might have worked for a shift. The historical regency garments where famous for being scandalously shear after all. Not having a ton of shear gauzy dresses was a huge missed opportunity by the show.
@moth.faerie2 жыл бұрын
haha thank you! ooh yeah that might work, tho i think it's more an issue of sleeves at all than the weight of the shift? i think one with just straps. may work but then it's not really protecting anything from sweat at that point

That is a really Beautiful gown. Well done. I need to get back on the sewing wagon. Right now I'm restoring a table-mounted skiver for leatherwork (she's old, she's a little rusty, but she's going to be fun to work with). I'm also stuck in the miasma of cleaning - but that's nothing new. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

YOU PROBABLY NEED TO PUT THE HIGH POINT OF THE SLEEVE SHOULD BE A BIT FURTHER TOWARD THE BACK...TO GIVE YOUR A BIT MORE LENGTH FOR YOUR ARM TO MOVE. I COULD BE WRONG...BUT TRY IT. OLD PATTERNS DID NOT PUT THE SLEEVE IN LIKE MODERN PATTERNS DO. THINK MORE HOW THE ELIZABETHANS DID IT.

IF YOU HAD DONE SOMETHING WITH YOUR HAIR...UP WITH SOME OF THAT LACE AND A BIT OF RIBBON...TO MATCH THE DRESS. LEAVING HAIR DOWN DIDN'T HAPPEN AFTER GIRLS GREW OLD ENOUGH TO MARRY...ERGO TO WEAR SUCH COSTUMES.
