I made one from a half inch Hickory board, which is very strong. For padding I used a foam pad used for kneeling in the garden. It was a big improvement. Cost was around $20. Not sure how much weight it added, but the comfort was a lot better.

Nice Matt! A friend of mine complains about his seat being uncomfortable. My Apco is super comfy. But if it breaks I'll have to look into this video again. Cheers!

Give ACP Composites in Livermore a call. They could source a very light weight carbon fiber honeycomb. We use them to make components for robotics, lasers, and optical assembles. You want a honeycomb core sandwich panel.

Yeah, calling around to different composite companies was something I considered. But, on DragonPlate's website, their sandwich composites were just too expensive. I didn't have time or patience to start calling around to everyone and explaining WTF I was trying to do. So, I just went with the easy Amazon click-n-ship option. But, I do think that a honeycomb sandwich composite seat board would be nice.

Yeah Brent, even ACP Composite's website says that a carbon fiber honeycomb plate in this size would be about $200, whereas the plate I bought was only $95.

Nicely done. Would you recommend having the plate a little smaller to get it in more easily?

I made it the same size as the original seat board, which is already difficult to get in. I thought this would be easier since the board itself is thinner, but I clearly was wrong. Next time, I would make it a little narrower, but not much. I want to make sure that there are no wrinkles or places for the fabric to gather.
